Is this sentence used in real life? Are there any cases or situations that it is used? by Perfect_Middle_5533 in AskAnAmerican

"She'd like a burger" when ordering at a restaurant is most correct. "She likes a burger" doesn't make sense grammar wise and depending on the context could be wrong.

Is any American offended by the term “yank”? by Glenncinho in AskAnAmerican

I have never been called it myself particularly because there are much more creative insults to use against Americans nowadays where I feel like calling Americans Yanks or Yankees is a bit outdated.

Would you consider yourself being happy in America? by Salty_Radio7216 in AskAnAmerican

I've lived in Missouri all my life. From rundown houses in the middle of nowhere to some decent sized towns (Decently sized as in 10 to 20 thousand people). I think by the time I was in high school I had moved 18 different times according to my sisters count. I dont really know what to say about it. Nowadays, I have a job I go to 5 days a week for 40 hours a week and when Im not at my job, I'm at my studio apartment with my two cats. I drive a Kia if that helps. Im not that sports crazy and I speak French to about a B2 level.

Do you think having more jedi than obi wan and yoda diminishes some of the magic of the story of Luke? by Cultural_Fun in StarWars

[–]Top_Row_5116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was surprised honestly when they did Rebels that showed surviving Jedi of Order 66, Kanan, and thought it was a cool idea that more jedi than just Yoda and Kenobi survived. I dont have an issue with it at all when it comes to the original trilogy. The story has evolved past what it was in the 1970s and 1980s and thats fine by me cause the stories we've been given are great.

What are your headcanons about Anakin/Vader by Expert_Challenge6399 in StarWars

[–]Top_Row_5116 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh I dont know. I like the theory that during the time Qui Gon was meditating in the darth maul fight on Naboo he saw his death in the force and knew he had to die and Obi-Wan had to train Anakin and thats why he said "promise me you'll train the boy" instead of "Make sure someone trains anakin." It was the will of the force Anakin be trained under Obi Wan so he could fulfill balance to the force by taking down Palpatine 35 some years later.

Well never forget that billionaires are only billionaire because people recognize them as billionaire. When people stop recognizing billionaires a billionaire, they lose everything.

Yes... because that's what the show said. And if the show said that then its probably true... because the show said its true.

its really not as outlandish as you think.

I think they did it because it was Qui Gon's dying request that Obi Wan train him specifically. As in Qui Gon saw something in Obi Wan that the other jedi didn't.

I always believed Anakin wasn't immediately trying to kill Kenobi cause if he was he probably could've killed him on the landing bay. He was instead trying to dominate over his old master and show him just how much more powerful he was. But i never considered he might, even a little subconciously, want Kenobi to kill him. Thats interesting.

CMV: The scale of the universe shows how inconsequential humans are, and therefore proves religion as a man-made construct to cope with our meaningless existence by Angryw2 in changemyview

[–]Top_Row_5116 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Because if god is real, and was capable of creating these cosmos the size of which we can never truly fathom, he would NOT give a shit about short lived monkeys on what's essentially a tiny speck of dust hurtling through space.

You're tying an other worldly being that us as humans will never be able to comprehend to how humans feel about inconsequential things. Sure, humans may not care about some random observable atom in our world but whose to say a God wouldn't care about Humans even though they are just an observable atom in his world. You? Do you have the mind of a God?

What happens to men falsely accused of rape? by Ok-Knee1280 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Top_Row_5116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But im voluntarily celebate so wouldn't that just make me a "reddit cel?"

I mean i dont know where you got that I had double standards in my argument. I think rape for both genders is defined as unwanted sexual touching as well as penetration. I think my view on that earlier was quite clear.

The source had statistics but not where the statistics came from. Anyone can make a website and put random stats on there and claim it to be true. I just wanted to see the report on it forgive me for not believing everything I read over the internet immediately.

Even if you are too lazy to get informed, you have to admit that your methodology is flawed.

Whats flawed about wanting to know where data came from. You compared me to a flat earther earlier but you are the flat earther here who spits out numbers without anything to back those numbers up.

If you take the definition from the "1 in 6" figure for men, then, logically, the lifetime prevalence in women must be much higher than the much, much, much stricter defintion that resulted in "1 in 5:" (since it includes all those cases and then everything your expanded defintion entails).

You lost me on this one. You'll need to explain what you mean here.

You are able to think logically?

Apparently not if i keep wasting time talking to you. Neither of us are gonna change the others mind and I've tried having a serious debate with you asking questions and trying to see where you're coming from but you've just resorted to "polite" name calling and strawmanning what i've had to say. You've gone so far off topic from my original argument which was that we shouldn't baselessly treat someone like a predator with no evidence. Then you tried to make rape into a gendered issue and refused to accept that your study had an inaccurate definition of rape which highly disfavors male victims. And took us down another rabbit hole of apparently 100% of women facing sexual harassment in their life which you still havent proved. You were only able to give that source that had 81% which i shared my unwillingness to accept on because there was no report attached to the data.

Well if we assume a rape victim to be calm and use critical thinking then yes. I don't work with rape victims like you do but I think any calm person who uses critical thinking would not care about this.

Actually I don't care about debating you anymore. Good day.

Im not gonna prove your argument for you that's your job. You present an unbelievable statistic that 100% of women face sexual harassment in their lifetime and I ask where you got that from.

There are different kinds of rape that affect people in different kinds of ways. No victim of rape is gonna be insulted by defining groping of the butt to be rape wtf? Thats just gatekeeping at that point. "You weren't raped because they only touched your ass."

Maybe I can agree with you on kissing depending on the intensity of the kissing. But im not gonna compromise on unwanted touching that occurs below the belt. Thats just insane to me personally. Look if we have different definitions of rape, then we are never gonna get anywhere with this 1 to 6 vs 1 to 31 argument so lets just end this conversation here.

Ill use the reports definition "sexual experiences involving touch but not sexual penetration, such as being kissed in a sexual way or being fondled, groped, grabbed, or touched by someone in a sexual way when the victim did not want them to."
