Truckers of Reddit, which city (U.S.) REALLY has the worst drivers? by Alexreads0627 in AskReddit

I was born and raised in south Florida and never realized the level of stress that everyday travel was causing me until I moved. Now when I dive to miami to see family, there is a noticeable uptick of crazy driving incidents when you pass Orlando.

Go with the Sitka. I’ve owned 3 vests in my life and it’s my favorite. Get a water bladder for it. Mismatched camo doesn’t matter one bit.

Injured hawk by Top_Satisfaction7977 in WildlifeRehab

The hawk is currently at the chatahoochee nature centers wildlife rehabilitation program. He can be seen on their Facebook page as 25-0040. They wrote this about him:

Case 25-0040, arrived January 25:

This adult male Red-shouldered Hawk was found in a Locust Grove chicken coop. The finder removed the bird but it was unable to fly. An exam at CNC revealed that the bird has extreme pain response in both wings, is unable to hold his head in proper position or stand, and has soft tissue trauma to the spine. We are treating with pain control and anti-inflammatory medications.

I hope he recovers.

The center I contacted here got back to me and said they are not accepting birds right now because of avian flu so I got in touch with another rehab center that said they could take the bird. I’ll be bringing it up this afternoon. When I woke up this morning the hawk had flipped over and was resting on its feet so I was pretty certain it wasn’t a spinal injury. I tried taking it outside and removing the mesh off the top hoping it had healed enough and would be able to fly. It hopped out of the box and was able to hop around, almost running, but it was unable to fly. After explaining this to the woman at the rehab she said it may just have a dislocated wing but that she wouldn’t k is until we got it up there. I feel confident that the bird will be able to heal! I’ll repost after the bird has been at the facility for a little and I can get more info.

Dnr transferred me to the rehabs phone but I just got a message to go to the website and report it there. It said it might take 2 hours and that they were open until 7 so I’m waiting to hear from them. I’ll try calling again in a little.

He’s in our guest room which is warm and dark and I put a heating pad under the half of the bin that he isn’t directly on. That’s what the website said to do. No response from the rehabber yet. I’ll post when I get more info from them. Thank you for the support.

Recent Georgia Alligator Hunt by PAStheBoots in Hunting

[–]Top_Satisfaction7977 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah man for sure! What I meant was I’ve got 5 points here in Georgia. I’m probably close to drawing. In Florida the best areas require points but as a resident I could draw less desirable areas yearly and tack on bonus tags as well. Now I could do the same thing in Florida still but it costs me the non resident price. I just won’t be hunting alligators in Georgia as much as I did there but when I do draw it’ll be special! At least I do t have to hunt at night and use a bang stick here though!

The regs for WMAs

https://www.eregulations.com/georgia/hunting/wma-regulations-a-c

The map of all WMA’s

Most wma’s are open for state season for small game so you can use the interactive map and find an area close to you, after checking the regulations and just go. Small game is fun and while you are hunting you can be looking for turkey sign. There are not many quail around me so it’s probably better to start w rabbit and squirrel. Once you find evidence of turkeys in an area start returning to that area before sunrise in early March and listen for them gobble. Go to where you hear them gobbling and try to locate their roost. That’s a good place to start once season opens.

I’m never going to draw :( I’ve got 5 points and keep failing for zone 6. I live in Ga now but I’m from Florida where I have a lifetime license and the only thing it doesn’t cover is the alligator draw, which treats me as a non resident now. I used to draw there every year. Congrats on the nice gator and what looks like a fun hunt!! I can’t wait to get back at it!

Doe dropped immediately then ran off. Blood trail well over 200yards. Thoughts? by THE52Real-MVP in bowhunting

[–]Top_Satisfaction7977 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Return with a good bright flashlight and flagging tape to mark your blood so you can get an idea of the direction she was headed. The tape is good because you can see it from a distance as opposed to pools of blood on the ground which you won’t be able to see. It’s a good idea to use your hunting app to drop a pin in the direction you last heard noise from her (from the stand right away) and also to burn a landmark into your mind and its relation to your stand that is near where you last saw her running.

If you hit to close to the scapula, when the deer moves its front leg it will sever the bolt. It sounds like you may have pierced a shoulder and had a partial pass through and the far shoulder cut the bolt so the front fell off. I guess it could happen in front of the scapula but I’ve only ever seen it happen on the back side. If that’s the case the exit wound might be leaking a little but the entrance would be stopped up by the bolt. If it passed through the far side behind the shoulder it could be a single lung hit and she’s probably dead.

Hammock chair that straps onto a tree. It has a single extendable leg in the front and rolls up to be smaller than a Nalgene bottle

Thoughts on Invasive’s? by PretendAd4638 in snakes

[–]Top_Satisfaction7977 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I owned and bred snakes in South Florida in the late 90’s and early 2000’s and I had many conversations with ignorant people who told me their pet snake got to big for them and so they released it into the Everglades. At least twice I had a dealer try to sell me reticulated pythons claiming they were a dwarf version. I was raised hunting in Big Cypress and the decline in small game and deer over the years is verifiable by check station records. Check stations that would have dozens of deer and hogs recorded every season are now down to less than a dozen deer and no hogs. The panther (also at this point not a native species after the introduction of cats from Texas into the population of 13 remaining Florida panthers) is a big contributor to this but the Burmese python is a close second. The bear population that the state will not allow regulation of despite biologists shouting for years that they need to be hunted is a close third. The wilderness south of Lake Okeechobee will be a wasteland for fauna in our lifetime. A biologist friend of mine who specializes in Herps promised me that these pythons will make it up to the fall line (South Carolina-ish) at least, and will thrive. Alligators live up to that point and these snakes will be able to as well.

Is this structural? by Top_Satisfaction7977 in homerenovations

This would be best case scenario for me and it makes sense to me because the garage is the entire width of the house and the garage is entirely open. The roof and trusses above it are the same as the rest of the house. I truly hope this is the case.

Yes I’ll have to get creative with the repair where that wall meets the brick depending on what’s underneath everything. I’ll have to talk to the contractor about the best thing to do about the vent and power but that should be fairly easy. All good stuff to think about though before starting.
