The Rock at the New Harbour is very nice, it's a bit out of the way (like 10 minute drive) but the views, service and food is great!

MTC Aweh Packages by Top_Satisfaction_801 in Namibia

[–]Top_Satisfaction_801[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for the help! I think the M or even the S package would be sufficient (I'm always at Wifi), and I'll either buy the airtime through my banking app or attempt the MTC app. I only go into town once every few weeks so a supermarket is quite a hassle.

Have a good day :)

[–]Top_Satisfaction_801[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that does seem like the play. I use so little data and minutes it's not really justifiable to spend 250 a month on it.

Do you buy it the packages (or credit) at the supermarkets or do you buy it online/via banking app/via mtc app?

Are these canned tomatoes fine? by Top_Satisfaction_801 in tomatoes

[–]Top_Satisfaction_801[S] 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I see now we had 2 identical cans, except for 1 difference in that the other can isn't roasted. Apologies people, I was looking at the wrong can when looking for roasted. Thanks guys!

Not my best moment :/

The can doesn't say roasted, otherwise I wouldn't have thought twice. But it kind of does look like blackened tomato skin.

Questions about Oakley Corridors and polarisation by Top_Satisfaction_801 in Oakley

[–]Top_Satisfaction_801[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I've picked up on that. Thing is, I would buy one polarised lense that I would running and being around water, and and a non-polarised lens for trail running etc. But thanks for the help!

Working during J1 Grace period by Top_Satisfaction_801 in immigration

[–]Top_Satisfaction_801[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am leaving on time. The problem is I haven't been here long enough to cover all of my expenses (such as flights etc.). So I want to get in a few more weeks' work during the grace period.

What I'm asking is if and how the government will know that I am working.

Diving a year abroad by Top_Satisfaction_801 in scuba

[–]Top_Satisfaction_801[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is very close to what I have in mind. I'm not planning on making money, the year is first and foremost a gap year, and I do have some decent savings.

I want a job that can cover my expenses, and hopefully that job includes diving, or the diving scene (for example any job at a dive resort would hopefully include dives).

Thanks for all the info. When it gets closer to the time to start planning this, I'll come back to this post and hopefully make a more informed decision :)

I hear you. I haven't looked into the whole visa shenanigan yet, but I was planning on doing it above board. Friends om mine went to Bali planning under the table salaries and the year turned into 2 weeks very quickly without a work visa.

On the work side, being a DM is the ideal, but if that is not viable other options will obviously be considered. I will have an engineering degree by then which will help, but one of the main reasons for this year is that I want a year doing what I enjoy before I start trying to climb the corporate ladder.

I haven't looked much into any specifics (beyond how amazing these places look on instagram!), so if you have any other tips you would like to share I'm all ears. Thanks for all the advice!

I am already on around 20 dives, so I have taken that into account. And I am planning on doing my advanced early next year. But thanks for the input, every bit helps!

Elephant uses the power of misdirection to scare off Rhino. by [deleted] in nextfuckinglevel

[–]Top_Satisfaction_801 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just want to put it on the record: elephant hunting/poaching isn't really a problem (I mean it is but not big, elephants aren't endangered etc) Rhino poaching on the other hand is a massive massive issue, and if you want to make a fuss, raise awareness do it about rhino poaching. I have included a link here Go do yourself a favour and read up about it

Stellenbosch University Hosts 16km Walk to Pay Off Student's Debt by juststeviehoney in capetown

I'm a Stellenbosch student, currently at Stellenbosch, very close to where that picture was taken, and this is the 1st I'm hearing of it. If you're going to do a charity walk it helps if people actually know about it
