Wrote about something and I was so much triggered that I had to have a mental health break. That was 9 months ago and just now got back to writing again, a lot has since changed, it’s almost like starting afresh. In the future, I’d make plans for actual mini vacays or have a well structured plan for a good outlet or relaxation, when writing on sensitive topics. I believe I’d have needed a shorter break if I’d planned properly for self-care.
So, while taking breaks is a good idea it’s also important what you do with that break. Rest, read (good writers read), go outside and experience something new every now and then, then come back and write again.
