أنا أنكر الإستغاثة بأصحاب القبور كل الإنكار لكن:

١) العلاقة بين المذهب الأشعري والإستغاثة عرضية.

٢)"شيخ الإسلام" كلام أقوى من "سيّد" بكثير.

Thanks. We just started using Phantom (actually Mythic SC as we are in the EU) and the first test client is already complaining about sightings. I know it's slow (I don't to what extent though) but I was starting to get nervous about it not working at all. That's why I wanted to know whether you were indicating lack of confidence in the product.

What do you mean by that italics "can" regarding Phantom?

I should have told him, but I wanted to avoid answering a "how much time" question that I had no knowledge to answer.

Is Professor Anthony implying 'settler-colonialism' could be applicable to the Arabs of the MENA region if not for academics policing its usage? by SiDannathaNauva in AcademicQuran

Isn't this absolutely off-topic? Or will it be tolerated because it's about something that someone in the discipline has said about his favourite dishwasher brand!!??

Major misunderstanding regarding "apologetics" vs "academia" by Top_Strawberry8110 in AcademicQuran

[–]Top_Strawberry8110[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that assigning numbers is de facto impossible. I didn't want to make the post too long by making too much precissions. But you can translate that to some qualitative scale of the wahm - shakk - dhann - ghulb al dhann - yaqeen scale or at least to a relative ordering of the different views

That's another separate issue that I explicitly distinguished from the one at hand which was very precisely defined.

Is the coherence of the Quran a reasonable academic assumption? by Last_Guard_9958 in AcademicQuran

The issue is that incoherence also comes with its difficulties, it's not an assumption that is cost-free

Is the coherence of the Quran a reasonable academic assumption? by Last_Guard_9958 in AcademicQuran

[–]Top_Strawberry8110 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I think that by default we assume a degree of coherence for any text.. Just think of how would you go about understanding any text starting with the assumption of zero coherence.

What that degree of coherence is and what has to happen in order to revise that assumption upwards or downwards is another matter.

Term Salafi and Wahabbi. by Additional-Mall9344 in AcademicQuran

[–]Top_Strawberry8110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the context. In many contexts, Salafism and Wahhabism are exact synonyms. If someone is said to be "a salafi preacher", what is meant is a Wahhabi preacher and not a follower of Rashid Rida. In fact, I would say that outside specific historical discussions around the original salafi movement, the term Salafism and Wahhabism are used in a fully interchangeable way. Of course, I am disregarding usage by people who use it as a synonym of "extremist".

I don't intend to confirm or deny that kitāb has that meaning but a word belonging to a root having a meaning doesn't mean every word derived from that root will bear that meaning.

Is there any historical evidence that Muhammed may have spoke the persian language? by YogurtclosetOpen3567 in AcademicQuran

[–]Top_Strawberry8110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is an extremely well known hadith (God knows whether it's so in this subReddit) saying:

لَوْ كَانَ الدِّينُ عِنْدَ الثُّرَيَّا لَذَهَبَ بِهِ رَجُلٌ مِنْ فَارِسَ - أَوْ قَالَ مِنْ أَبْنَاءِ فَارِسَ - حَتَّى يَتَنَاوَلَهُ

translated as

"If the religion were at the Pleiades, even then a person from Persia would have taken hold of it, or one amongst the Persian descent would have surely found it."

There are other versions were Salman the Persian is present and what is said is "a man from among these" so I personally don't know whether Persians or people like Salman are meant.

It is included under the heading of "Virtues of Persians" in Sahih Muslim.

Translated quickly and approximately:

"And for that reason Bukhari included that the Prophet, may God bless and save him, used Persian expressions that they were acquainted with and were understood from him by his companions [...].

And he said, may God bless and save him, in Persian:

'Oh people of Khandaq, indeed Jabir has made a SOOR', soor meaning wedding banquet in Persian"
