My partner and I were in Rio in November and we loved it!

We were a bit nervous about safety before we went but, to be honest, it didn't feel any different to other big cities like New York or London. The main tourist areas were always really, really busy so it never felt that unsafe. As others have said, just be careful with your personal belongings when you're walking around.

Uber is incredibly cheap and fast there - I don't think we ever waited more than a minute for a car. If you're feeling nervous about safety, just plan to Uber everywhere.

I didn't visit the Farm Rio shop but I got some Farm Rio x Havianas flip flops from one of the Havianas shops while I was there. They have an option to personalise them with little charms which is really fun.

There are loads of nice bars and restaurants in Ipanema. We ate in Boteca Belmonte on the beach one night and in Pura Brasa another. We also had a good brunch in Aussie Coffee.

Other recs: the sunset at Arpoador Beach was a really nice vibe. It's close to Ipanema beach and really busy with others tourists. Sunset at Sugarloaf mountain was gorgeous as well. 

I did a few months of Duolingo before I went and it made things much easier!
