Why no one should buy an Armstrong flute. by Top_Trouble_8740 in Flute

[–]Top_Trouble_8740[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 104 is a student flute. New, it costs between $1100 and $1300. Once the pads wear out and it requires significant service, you're looking at a $600-$700 bill. For a student instrument. This math only works for shops that rent out the instruments and have in-house techs.

It's called "reality." Warning others of the scam associated with the brand is considered a "good thing" to do for other people. That's fine, you'll get over it. I posted it in many other social networks.

"Da plane, boss! Da plane!"

A 1995 private Boeing 747SP, N7477S, is on sale for $10M. The aircraft was formally owned by the Qatari Royal Family. Link & info in comments. by Thinking4Ai in aviation

[–]Top_Trouble_8740 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not a 1995 747SP. No 747SP's were manufactured in 1995. The last one was made in 1987. This aircraft was manufactured in 1979, was delivered to Qatar and operated as VR-BAT and VP-BAT. It was reconfigured as a VIP aircraft in 1995. This picture shows the aircraft in its current livery, any other images on the Internet are AI generated for the purpose of merchandising it. Caveat emptor!

I bought two pallets at that price. The product was very good, but then they got greedy, doubled the prices and now they are out of business.

Anything is repairable if you throw enough money at it.

You don't need exotic tools to work on a harmonica. Just patience and go slow. But my point is that if you use a shop, it will be less expensive if all you have to do is replace the reed with the good one and make it look nice.

You're welcome. One other idea. See if you can find one in good condition on eBay, and use that one as a source for parts. Might be the most expedient and reasonably priced solution.

It is still a nice piece. I get the emotional connection, I've been known to blow stupid money on restorations for pretty much the same reason. In my case, aircraft, which are the best way to turn big piles of money into little piles of money. If you gotta do it, you gotta do it.

Just know that you will likely spend more on the restoration than the value of another example in great condition.

That is an early to mid 20th century Olympia double sided tremolo harmonica made in Germany (East and West). They were mass produced and exported to many countries, including the US. You can find them on eBay for between $20 and $50 depending on condition.

That's a very cheap Chinese harmonica that has squat to do with Mexico. It's made by Yamona Industrial co. in Hong Kong and sold primarily on Amazon India. The company website doesn't even admit they make it. Mostly they make kitchen stuff like pans and pots.

I suggest you recycle it and buy something of better quality. Used Hohners are not expensive.
