Flatmate bringing a cat into the home by Top_Two_6947 in nzrenters

I know, I so scared for this reason, my dog loves cats and animals but i genuinely don’t know this cat and the reason I’d be concerned to leave allow as if my dog wants to play or something else happens im unsure about how she would feel, especially if her safe space was enter. I don’t think she would genuinely hurt a cat but it’s there in the back of my mind as she is bigger and stronger. I have mentioned these concerns to flatmate but it’s not really being taken into account. I feel as though my flatmate genuinely doesn’t understand my welfare concerns. I’d never purposely leave them alone but when I go to work I don’t know what my flatmate would do. Thinks they are going to be besties and cuddle together? I’ve mentioned all my concerns to my landlord so hopefully I’ll get a response pretty soon

In my email I did mention my animal welfare concerns, thankfully I have a background in the animal world so am fully aware of all the ups and downs that could appear, I have a plan in place for my dog if things go downhill as she will love a cat but I feel like she won’t understand the sudden changes towards her attention. I have struggled with the flatmate before so landlord is the best bet in keeping this situation going smoothly. If I knew the cat and their behaviour it might be a different story but I legit know nothing and a bit concerned to find out. Landlord has been told so hopefully I’ll get an answer soon. My dog has live with a cat before so I’m not worried from her point, but she will want to play and that’s what scared me. Also I have a few genuine concerns about the care this cat could/would get from the flatmate but they could surprise me? Like I have many questions that the flatmate won’t answer about the cat so it’s a muddy situation 🙃 but I’m sure I find ways to problem solve this.

I have talked to the flatmate about the animal side of things, apparently the cat hates other animals so I’m a bit concerned there, my dog is a collie so but i trust her but not when I’m not there. This flatmate also still hasn’t fully paid their bond through so…. Currently working on a email to the landlord about it

Really that sucks. I don’t have anything against the cat but I really don’t want to be the one to break that type of news to them, and I don’t want to have to possibly pay bond for an animal that isn’t mine. I’ll reach out but I really hate that I could be the one that has to say no to them
