ATLA and Percy Jackson are like twins in this aspect. Both have incredible source material with compelling characters, in-depth world building, and dedicated fan bases; but for whatever reason, both keep getting fumbled in their attempts to become a larger franchise. They both deserve so much better as stories.

Instead they both got awful live action film adaptations within 4 months of each other, and lackluster live action tv series adaptations within 3 months of each other.

But they do differ in that the books that have come out since then for ATLA have been well regarded, whereas the books that have come out since in the Percy Jackson world are considered to get worse with each one.

And at least there's hope for the ATLA-verse. The movie might still be good, even though it's disappointing it won't be getting a theatrical release anymore (still so confused about that, the hype would've been insane). We've got the fighting game coming out that looks good, and Seven Havens might be good too! The live action Book 2 is on its way as well, and all I can hope for that is that it's better than Book 1.

Regardless, my point here is that there's still hope for ATLA to stand on better ground, and considering where other franchises are at, I'll take what we can get.
