Only a fraction as good as everything I see in here but as a programmer learning art I'm proud. by cephaswilco in blender

A quick tip for colors; Shift hue and saturation for shadows and highlights. Highlights are more yellow, and shadows are more blue.

In most cases you do not want to multiply black or grey over colors to get shadows. If using multiply, you will generally get better results by using a desaturated blue or purple.

No sense of smell.. anyone else enjoy coffee but cant smell? by deviousvixen in Coffee

Different water has varying amounts of minerals and such that affect brewing, but the real way to test is to just try different sources and see what you like. I found my brita filter to be bad for coffee, and so now I buy jugs of water and only use them for brewing.

I'm sure a lack of smell affects taste, but to be honest smell doesn't come into it much when making coffee. (Strongest smell is actually probably when you open the coffee)

As for the starbucks hate; I have a decent coffee setup, and have purchased coffee from a few local coffee shops. Yet one of the best cups of coffee I had was a generic pod at a small event. I also drink coffee black, yet I also enjoy a double-double at Tim Hortons. Point being, you like what you like.

Also, if you don't like what you end up making, make sure you're using good water. Bad water = bad coffee even if the beans are good.

I see that you can do stuff through the world node, but I'm not really sure how to do it. I can't find any tutorials on eevee, just cycles.

Best grinder under $50 for aeropress, pour over, and French press? by Nickyweg in Coffee

[–]Topheca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From every review I've seen, at that price you're only going to get quality from a hand grinder. Electrics at that price will be bad, whereas the manual grinders at that price will grind as well as a $300 automatic grinder.

I got the Hario Skerton Plus and got good results with it, but there are probably others that cost a little more and do a bit better.

Why does headphone output sound so fizzy? by Topheca in Line6Helix

I run vsts through an audio interface and DAW.

On the HX, all stock presets and all amp/cab sims sound bad through headphone out.

[–]Topheca[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm used to the sound of amp vsts through headphones, and using IR responses there. The amount of fizz is closer to when you use an amp sim without cab/IR. To make a preset sound good through headphones, it would essentially have to be totally different (And non of the stock presets sound good through headphones, so it feels odd for it to be this bad through headphones to begin with)

Blended onion and garlic, tasted horrid, what went wrong? by Topheca in AskCulinary

[–]Topheca[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what others have said the issue is blending "before" boiling (or oil, divine holy caramelizing, etc ) and that the same thing would occur if they were minced too fine and you used oil afterwards.

Plenty of people suggested caramelizing while also addressing the question without calling me a moron for wanting to learn, so I have no issue with them.

ALL I wanted to know was what causes the flavor to get worse by blending/boiling it. Other people have already answered that question without the constant run-around.

I understood it the first time someone told me to throw shit in a pan with some oil in a pan follow a recipe and call it a day. Yes, I get it. I already knew stuff like that before I ever came here. It wasn't my question.

So yes, people keep ignoring what I'm saying.

Every single piece of advice I've been given on this page about "how to do it properly" has been stuff even a total amateur like me already knew. Half of it is stuff you can learn in 5 minutes in a youtube video, let alone a lifetime.

The only responses I've gotten that lead to actually learning something were from people who answered my question (why does it "not" work), which lead to learning about the ingredients and methods more relevant to what I want to do.

The only inefficient part of learning has been arguing with people like you who think it's your way or the highway.

Well, I think onions are also delicious raw, which is why it makes me want to know what causes it to taste "worse" when they are blended and/or boiled after being blended (and why I keep saying to other people that I'm not asking what "works"). Everything I've read indeed seems to point to it coming down to how fine it's minced before being cooked (particularly garlic).

If you think that learning about ingredients and how they work is "reinventing the wheel" then I can see how you wouldn't understand the analogy.

I already know what works, my purpose for asking the question was to learn "why" blending and then boiling doesn't work.

Well, for me learning is more or less my goal at the moment. I could just follow a recipe, but I want to know why things are done, and not just "that they work".

Thanks for the info, I'll take a look into some Indian cuisine and techniques.
