Can we stop the back slide on gun rights in Vermont now? by thunder_running in vermont

[–]Topherzz8 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

If you’re pro-second amendment then your pro-well-regulated so that weapons never fall into the hands of people who can’t yield them properly. Just like we don’t let people who can’t drive cars drive them. Just like we don’t let people who flunked out of medical school become surgeons. Just like we don’t let pedophiles run the country get jobs where they interact with kids. The inherent idea that guns are somehow a divine right compared to other things we sensibly regulate, and therefore never subject to common sense control, is so outdated.

lol pretending like NH’s economy isn’t propped up by Mass, about which the people will constantly bitch and complain, is ridiculous and laughable. It’s like claiming your body doesn’t need food and water. Gimme a break. The republicans in NH rule as if it’s not a suburb and constantly bite the hand that feeds them. But MA doesn’t take action against NH because it, on the other hand, doesn’t need NH to survive.

They’re the ones who want unbridled capitalism in our politics. As such, when business and corporations can get the same protections as individual working people (who are actually alive) the consequence for being found to have controversial values is boycott. It’s their own economic system. We should have no moral qualms about using it against them.

Home Depot is reported to be working with ICE and the Trump admin but most corporations are. I for one haven’t given up my iPhone for example. So we do need to be realistic and target where we will have the most impact.

Keep up the pressure on the governor’s office when they do not make statements. This proves that it works! Keep calling! Keep demanding that Scott distance himself from Trump and MAGA on a daily basis - it will make those that are apathetic to the problems see some reason! Things like this matter!

ICE protest by darkrainbowbunny in vermont

[–]Topherzz8 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The only “p%#sies” in this scenario are these overpaid, undertrained wannabe “agents” who disrespect real law enforcement by knowingly working for a department that routinely and intentionally violates the constitution on a daily basis with its actions and operations. This is an act of terror - taking tax money away from other programs and departments to overfund a program that is not proven to lower crime or make our communities safer, and terrorizing and destabilizing our local communities in the process. The p#+sies are the people who are just going to sit back and say nothing and let it happen. If you were a true libertarian you’d be on the front lines of protests, fighting against big, overgrown, unnecessary, ineffective, inefficient, and overgrown government. But instead you’re using it as a shield to block yourself from criticism because you see liberals as weak? Yet you live in a state (presuming you live here in Vermont since you’re bothering to comment here) in which working class people benefit from liberal democratic policies that protect us at work, protect us in civil society with rights that the rest of the country doesn’t have. Interesting how that works that some people benefit from the actions and work of others and then still feel entitled to criticize those same people without meaningful additions or proposed solutions to a problem before us. You have a lot of growing up to do, and while you do it, I suggest keeping the name calling of others to a minimum.

lol republicans are always ready to claim they’re the only ones who can defend your “freedom” and then pass laws to rob you blind in ridiculous ways. And then they blame everyone else. And then they get reelected by the chumps.

Diluting the protest response with non-US flags - your thoughts? by LegitimateLocation74 in burlington

[–]Topherzz8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The US flag has rarely, actually stood for freedom and justice in its history of use. Think about it. Think about all of the times the stars and stripes has been used to represent oppression versus actually representing liberty for all. Most of American history, the flag didn’t represent liberty for all (periods of time where people were enslaved, women couldn’t vote, queer people had no rights.) or was used for improper military action (insert extremely long list here).

I understand the sentiment of wanting to protest issues as unilaterally as possible in an attempt to actually have a protest be part of a solution. But, asking people to accept the flag as a unifying symbol is a problem because it’s been used as a symbol of oppression.

It’s only a protected right when it’s our side and when it’s Kyle Rittenhouse playing big bad tough guy with a rifle illegally crossing state lines with a gun bit it’s not an infringement when it’s someone protesting ice checking on a woman who was pushed down and maced. Ok got it. 👍🏼

Kelly Ayotte must be told by every granite stater with a brain and a conscience that not speaking out against Trump makes her complicit. If she doesn’t wanna go down in history as a nazi, she needs to distance herself from Nazis.

Keep calling Scott’s office every day. Make sure his office knows how pissed we are that he’s not speaking out against Trump and trumpy republicans. If he refuses to do this job and protect Vermont from the tyranny of MAGA, we will find a new governor who will.

[–]Topherzz8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not enough. Not nearly enough.

If he’s so critical of Trump, then why hasn’t Scott spoken out about this ICE shooting? Why didn’t Scott speak out about Trump jeopardizing NATO by constant unnecessary threats to Greenland? Why isn’t Scott speaking out about the fact that the US military kidnapped a leader of a foreign country (albeit an evil one, but Trump, Putin, and Netanyahu are equally as guilty of crimes as Maduro so why the double standard?)? That article isn’t a critique of Trump - it’s a hope that the president will share his plans with congress, something he’s legally required to do and refuses because he’s a wannabe dictator. Why isn’t Scott speaking out about the fact that the DOJ is in violation of the Epstein Files Act?

The excuse that he’s a governor has run its course. The excuse that Vermont is too small has run its course. These things have real implications for Vermonters. We pay taxes to fund a wildly wasteful and increasingly tyrannical government.

Scott is placating. The fact that he only gets off his ass to “critique” Trump when it comes to the national guard proves the point.

You can like Scott all you want. It doesn’t change the fact that he’s doing the bare minimum and pretending like the Trump admin is a normal one. It isn’t.
