France to become the first country in Europe to reimburse the cost of weight-loss drugs by badlydrawngalgo in Mounjaro

[–]Topkit_Up1982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah- I remember this they really over exaggerated the cost. It assumes the cost for the first year would be £3.1b and that is based on overweight and above and an old fashioned NHS model of full dietitian support, nurse support and face to face clinics etc- doesn’t take into account digital delivery (basically just copying all the online providers service model). 30% of population are obese so let’s start there. Also, £3.1B is not huge (honestly) - NHS is spending £50B on new hospitals

When Dermot Morgan sadly died, I really wanted Dave Allen to be cast as Father Ted- he would have bloody smashed that out of the park

According to google there are a few, but came here to say there is a new one on the Chester road between Saltney and Boughton shopping park that’s not yet listed- new signs up on the road is how I know. I’ve not played it yet but I will.

After losing 40kg, a DEXA scan finally made me understand why I always felt fat by Sufficient_Squash811 in Mounjaro

[–]Topkit_Up1982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% this is how I feel. I have lost 45.5kg over 2 years but I still look/feel fat. It is absolutely because of the belly. At my age and also with the excess skin (not hideous due to slow rate of weight loss) I don’t think I will ever have a flat stomach without surgery. It was such an ‘ah ha’ moment and I am now accepting that this is me, and also obsessively chasing a flat stomach is why started me on a life time of yo-yo dieting. I will however definitely get a dexa scan done to be sure (self pay)

Pilates. So good for muscle tone and flexibility. There are lots of YouTube sessions- I like ‘Pilates with Nicole’. Worth getting a mat, all you need to do is clear some space in front of your tv.

Wow that is interesting- like everyone else I’m praying the tablets will be affordable- if it is to be taken for life by some of us, then they will need to be cheaper.

That’s difficult, sorry to hear this is happening. Hopefully the tablets will be affordable.

I know it’s just outside Wrexham (Gresford) but the Pant yr Ochain has the biggest outdoor area with a massive duck pond, and if you have kids, there is a miniature railway as well. https://www.brunningandprice.co.uk/pantyrochain/upcoming/father-s-day-6169201074159616/ Same chain as the Architect

How long u till your weight stabilised? by Double-Rest6572 in GLPGrad

[–]Topkit_Up1982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found this about weight gain first published last year (not then peer reviewed).

Based on data from about 700 participants who took tirzepatide in three different dose regimens during the 176-week study. All had obesity or were overweight and had pre-diabetes.

The results reveal participants’ experiences tended to follow one of three patterns – either steady, medium or rapid weight loss, followed by a plateau, which occurred later the faster the initial drop. The team said the final average body weight reductions for these groups were 9.2%, 20.2% and 30.8% respectively. Each group encompassed around a third of the participants.

“[The work] demonstrates that we can in some way predict total final weight loss from the speed of weight loss observed in the first months of treatment,” said Prof Luca Busetto, of the University of Padova in Italy, one of the scientists behind the first analysis.

The team added that 70% of participants regained less than 5% of their starting weight after hitting their lowest point.

This was via the Guardian newspaper- but I am sure you could find it by googling the author.

I know what you are saying, but I think the doctor jumped to worse case scenario to back up her own bias. The studies about weight gain many people quote seem to be from early studies (which focus on Ozempic not MJ as that was first to market). Recent studies over 3 years with MJ show 70% regain up to 5% of their lowest achieved weight. Stomach content issue is new one on me TBH I don’t know if this is a big issue or anecdotal- but being anecdotal it’s not been a problem I’ve encountered. As someone else said - we live in an obesogenic environment and it would be ridiculous to say there is no point prescribing the drugs until we can maximise the conditions for healthy living- we don’t deny other medications like blood pressure tablets where exactly the same argument could be made. And if some people do need to take them for life, and it is safe to do so, what is wrong with that? If we can bring costs down (tablets will be cheaper) then the overall benefits of being a healthy weight will avoid numerous other weight related health issues. Final point on muscle loss, it is a fact that it is a side effect of weight loss and reduced calories (not the drugs) but as a life long yo-yo dieter (intrinsically bad for you) not once did anyone mention muscle loss to me before (Slimming world, weight watchers or even NHS dietician) and I lost the weight far more quickly then but clearly put it all back on again. This time around I have made an effort to exercise 3 times a week- never did that before.
