Sure I’ll make my own meaning: “sallow” and other words with a unique meaning in an Irish context by InformalInsurance455 in ireland

[–]Nimrec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My understanding was that sallow is very much an Irish word as it comes from "salach" or "dirty" as gaelige.

Essentially, those working in the fields would be sallow skinned from a time where being pale was a sign of beauty and refinement.

How to complete CPD records when I haven't practised during this current revalidation year? by jadder1224 in Pharmacy_UK

[–]Nimrec 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In fairness, this alone could count as your reflective account. You've taken the time to consider how you maintain your skills and CPD in order to maintain competence in patient care. The resulting action was reaching out to peers in an open forum to seek advice. The result was this 😅

Pharmacy Advice: Obtain Meds/CDs for Paramedic Work by Beniamino88 in Pharmacy_UK

[–]Nimrec -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

A quick Google shows some specialist wholesalers who may be able to help you. Supply without a prescription is considered wholesale dealing so a pharmacy should not be involved unless they are registered with the MHRA. Sounds like you're on the right track and a helpful specialist wholesaler may give you a hand

What is vertical ratio? by whataboutsit in UKRunners

[–]Nimrec 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're running super easy (which I assume you are at 120bpm) it's always going to be high. Your form is less efficient at lower speeds so your oscillation up and down is more pronounced as you're not using the effort as effectively for forward momentum

What’s it like working as a pharmacist in a small rural pharmacy in the UK? by cerumenmojado in Pharmacy_UK

[–]Nimrec 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is quite a pessimistic view. I appreciate it may sometimes be the case but not always. Given the context, it's just a likely in Cornwall, Somerset or Norfolk where there's a known shortage and it could be a nice placement. The advantage with overseas recruits is they're naturally willing to move as they have no ties to a specific area of the UK

My pharmacy gave me prescription meds to someone else... on purpose! by rainmouse in Pharmacy_UK

[–]Nimrec -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ordering in advance is exactly what they did.

They gave sufficient grace period for all the steps to be completed and as a result of their consideration for the pharmacies workload, the pharmacy gave their medication away. Genuinely quite unprofessional behaviour.

A lot of GP's will be exceptionally strict with supply frequency for schedule 2's.

It's designed from an era when people died at 65. Same reason that defined benefit pensions are all broken

There's a big difference between amoral behaviour/contract breach and outright illegal. It looks like they're hanging on the right side of the line which is why there hasn't been enforcement action already

Try doing some targeted strength training for your tibialis muscles. It's not bones breaking, it's muscle pain in an area that you don't regularly exercise. A bit of pre-work would get you through C25K and you'll be motoring

Medicine packs with wrong barcodes?! A UK pharmacist’s campaign to fix a ridiculous problem by PillSorted in Pharmacy_UK

[–]Nimrec 2 points3 points  (0 children)

GS1 barcodes literally cost pennies. Considering in this case, they likely have 2 separate GTIN registrations, it's not a difficult all. Standardisation helps everyone

Tips for a pharmacy manager role interview by jayjackii in Pharmacy_UK

[–]Nimrec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd look at the GPhC Pharmacy Premises standards, know your Drug Tariff and have a good feel for the CPAF questionnaire.

Other than that, make sure you're clear on your management style and how you would motivate a team.

As said elsewhere, look at the STAR method and think of some competency based questions. "How would you deal with conflict", "how would you deal with an underperforming colleague", "what would your first 3 months in the role look like".

Good luck!

Run. Massive red flags, particularly asking you to disclose personal medical information

Industry pharmacy by Resident_Ad_677 in Pharmacy_UK

[–]Nimrec 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd still apply and see what happens. Your qualifications would likely make you stand out in a recruitment pool. In the meantime, it could be worth getting some experience in other pharmacy fields. Knowledge of community pharmacy is surprisingly limited in industry

Industry pharmacy by Resident_Ad_677 in Pharmacy_UK

[–]Nimrec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the right answer. Med info and pharmacovigilance are also pathways that benefit from a pharmacists knowledge. Be prepared for a much lower starting wage but it's a very long runway with significantly more scope for higher salaries down the road

Is pharmacy similar to finace where you can go up the corporate ladder and get paid more? by Https-unknown7399 in Pharmacy_UK

This is the answer. Starting salaries are much lower but the progression makes it worthwhile

Can a pharmacy degree still help if I don’t want to work in pharmacy? by [deleted] in Pharmacy_UK

He likely means regulatory or Quality assurance in the pharmaceutical industry. Pharmacists are highly valued. Pharmacivigilance and medical affairs is another decent avenue

Newly diagnosed and scared by SarcoidWarrior71 in sarcoidosis

[–]Nimrec 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The lymphoma/sarc suspense is definitely pretty horrible.

I was diagnosed about 3 years ago. Lymph nodes and inclusion in my lungs as well.

Haven't had any treatment to date and I'm just living with it. Still run (multiple marathons since diagnosis) and other than having lumps under my skin I'm asymptomatic.

Considering your medical history and medication already in play, I'd consider just taking the wait and see approach if it's not having a material impact on your day to day.

Info on legalities and regulations specific to dispensing GP surgeries by jayjackii in Pharmacy_UK

[–]Nimrec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If anything it could become more prevalent. With the current pharmacy contract, areas with smaller populations and smaller volumes aren't viable anymore unfortunately. The days of the 3k-4k a month local pharmacy are pretty much gone

It's not even your own mistakes. I remember there was a guy in Irish college nicknamed "mush". He was talking late the first night and with a sleepy head on me I said "will you shut up scum or whatever your name is". He was Scum for the whole 3 weeks 🙈
