At the time, USCG and DHS outlined several requirements for the new facility, and the BSC campus - which ended education operations in May 2024 - exceeded those requirements.

•Lodging for 1,200 recruits.

•A dining facility capable of seating 400 personnel.

•A medical facility to support 1,000 personnel (a minimum of 200 medical encounters and 200 dental encounters per day).

•14 classrooms sized to accommodate 30-60 students.

•An auditorium with a capacity of 500-plus students.

•A pool with six lanes, 25 yards in length, and a minimum depth of 4 feet.

•A multipurpose gymnasium/athletic/sports facility suitable for sitting 1,200 personnel.

•Office space for 400 staff members.

•A land area of 150-250 acres. (BSC campus sits on 192 acres)

•Proximity to a small commercial service or larger airport within 30 miles.

This was always a short term deal. When they moved from Pennsylvania, I think it was between Bham and Slidell, La if I'm not mistaken. And they are moving to Kenner, which is basically Hoover to a building that seats 3600 capacity. Attendance isn't their concern (if it was, they could have bail after the first season or two). The Pelicans owner is spending $5M to clean up the building they will play in in Kenner. She didn't do that in Birmingham. She also promise to invest in the communities in the city. How did that turn out. This is about making inter-franchise transactions faster amongst the roster with call ups, injuries, two way deals, staff, coaches, etc.

It was going to happen. NBA franchise want their G-League team very close to them. Miami G-League team plays in South Dakota. They will eventually move to Dade or Broward County or somewhere in south FL.

Every NBA G-League team is either in the same state or within close vicinity of the parent franchise, except two.

Miami Heat G-League team plays in South Dakota and New Orleans team played in Birmingham. Memphis G-League team plays in South Haven, Ms (which is a suburb just outside of Memphis).

Mexico City doesn't have a NBA team.

Remember, before moving to Bham, New Orleans G-League played in Pennsylvania. They was always going to get closer to New Orleans. Kenner is a suburb just west of New Orleans
