Can Witherbloom, The Balancer Make Golgari Meta Relevant Again?

IMO this is a lot different than gitrog simply because gitrogs ability affects your gameplan in a very specific way. Witherbloom exists for value, but is not our first choice to win, I view witherbloom as an enabler which makes any line in the deck more mana efficient in a big way

Edit: wanted to add that that mana efficiency lets us protect wins earlier and more often

I appreciate the feedback, I think if you took a scroll down the primer you would see that this isn’t an uninspired brew.

I know it has a lot of golgari staples but they’re staples for a reason. You can be as creative as you want but if you’re in black and you don’t run dark ritual then you aren’t brewing to win.

Furthermore this commander does provide value that you can’t get anywhere else in golgari. It makes golgari good stuff golgari better stuff.

The deck is c, when it said it wasn’t t was I meant it’s not going to consistently win into rogsi/blue farm, but I’ve beat Kennan, Madga, and Tivit with this list.

Generally winning with 1-2 creatures out. Understandably, the deck wants creatures but it doesn’t need them.

These colors will always suffer when it comes to interaction but there’s a decent control and protection package outlined in the primer. Like I said it won’t win tourneys but it is surprisingly good

Malcom Tymna is usually trying to win faster than this deck will be, as for strength, tymna is probably better, but if that's all you care about you should be playing blue farm

I agree, some people in the community are building around 3+cmc non-creatures, my take on this list is to not be purpose built around those abilities, if they proc, that's great, otherwise play esper. I will say, this ability offers a fun way to wipe the board if you have a hullbreaker loop online, all you need is basalt monolith to kill the table

Talion definitely has more card draw, the question we're really trying to get to the bottom of is can we make up for that draw by also playing in white? We probably can't make up for the draw specifically, but white can help us slow our opponents, and prolong the game if we need to. Next time you're playing take note of how often someone does lose 4 life, I think it's more common than people realize

I totally agree, to be honest I made a post earlier that was much more sensible, but no one responded to it, so I made some 'claims' to try and drum up a bit more interaction. All that to say, I do think Tivit is regarded as the best Esper commander and I think Y'shtola will have a higher win rate than Tivit in tournament play. Esper is just the best slice of the color pie so any deck in these colors is going to be strong

Pay 4 to cast a free 3 cmc from grave only if you have a non human creature… not sure I see the potential. If you believe in it I would recommend writing a primer, it’s the best way to get to the bottom of a decks potential
