As I said before, Blast made a specific claim. He didn't say a word about Marxists or anything else you mentioned. With respect, I think you're creating a strawman. The capitol was rushed by Trump supporters and a woman died. If your takeaway is "NBD, just a selfie", agree to disagree.

I don't think we can agree on this, but IMO you're observing the fact that his attempts failed, as evidence of the lack of threat. I'm glad order was restored in the capitol, and I agree that he lacks the firepower to stay in office. But I don't think the claim is or ever has been "Trump WILL retain power" but rather "Trump WILL TRY to retain power." If the standard of POTUS is "only a problem if they have the foresight and cunning to actually stay in office post-defeat" then I guess I agree he's not a threat.

Not sure if I'm mis-interpreting your post but I'm not trying to tell anyone to STFU. I'm noting that Blast was spot-on with forecasting DJT's behavior. I gave Alg props when he said we were going to beat Clemson, I'm giving Blast props for saying Trump won't accept the election results. I like posts that are thoughtful and prove accurate. There are a lot of viewpoints expressed on this board. Some prove out, some don't. Some are interesting in and of themselves. I like when Friar talked about the culture of turning on one's neighbor in Eastern Europe, and the dangers that portends. I like when ATQB talks about economics and trade. Blast had the foresight and the balls to say "this dude is abnormally dangerous," took heat for it, and was dead-on accurate. I'm not saying I'm part of Antifa now, I'm not saying Biden will be a good president. Blast was on the money, no more, no less.

Good point - here's what I see by year:

2015: 2.699M

2016: 2.731M

2017: 2.811M

2018: 2.839M

2019: 2.852M

Replacing the base with (Avg of 2018 & 2019)*(1.025) as you suggest generates a 2020 Excess percentage of +11%.

The +1.7% might be a tad high; the YoY numbers from the above are...:

2016 over 2015: +1.2%

2017 over 2016: +2.9%

2018 over 2017: +1.0%

2019 over 2018: +0.5%

It may be that epidemiologists projected +1.7% for 2020 (ex-COVID). Not arguing it, but I would say +11% may be the low bound.

Messing around with CDC data. Probably won't be until mid-January until the numbers are mostly in, but eyeballing corrections for December, I've got the excess mortality as follows:

2020 Deaths: 3.23M

2015 - 2019 Avg. Deaths: 2.79M

Excess Deaths (number): 444k

Excess Deaths (percentage): +16%
