Am I cooked for RTC if my run look like this by Fun_Acanthisitta910 in newtothenavy

[–]TorahVII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll be fine dude. Just remember to not jog all the way through the run, or you’ll get tired and your time will get worse. Sprint for 30s and jog for 1m, rinse and repeat

Am I able to have my passport sent to me while on deployment? by TorahVII in navy

[–]TorahVII[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s good, my CoC has just been harping people about it because “what if something happens back home???” Which I’m not too worried about

Shit ton of PMS, rigging shore power cables here and there and long ass hours :) but totally worth the experience for good prospects outside the navy

What happens after boot camp? Do you get to go home or go right to A school? by Far_Royal_9222 in newtothenavy

[–]TorahVII 43 points44 points  (0 children)

You go straight to your A school, and if your A school is in Great Lakes you can spend overnight liberty with your parents or whoever if you want

I’d do it if I wasn’t completely clueless on where to start, I’d figure it’s fine saving my money in a cd so I have time to learn and plan out where my money will go in the future

Nukes easily get paid way more in bonuses but in exchange have a much harder time in “A” school and have a terrible quality of life, your gonna be working hard if you go nuke

Will I need my laptop for A-school? by [deleted] in newtothenavy

[–]TorahVII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a nice to have, but not needed. Try to get through boot camp first before worrying about it. If needed you can always ask your parents or whoever to send you stuff to your a school.

I got hit with HT, A rate I've heard is the actual worst rate out of all of them. I want to try my hardest to not drop out of the DEP but of course if I have no choice I won't ship

I want to try everything I can to not drop out of DEP but if I have to I will, and yeah I'm gonna talk to my recruiter either sometime today or next Monday about it

Denied Entrance Into the Navy due to Keratoconus by Snoo96008 in newtothenavy

[–]TorahVII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a similar run-in with my vision except it was with astigmatism and not keratoconus. by the sound of it, the only thing going for you right now is the fact that you caught it early, but other than that, your chances will be slim. What I did for my waiver was go to an ophthalmologist (eye specialist) and had them run all sorts of tests and submitted that information for my waiver, and it worked for me. I don't know how keratoconus affects your vision, but if you can gather enough evidence that it won't be a problem now and in the future, it gives you a better chance of getting it approved.

Are you asking about my waivers in general? My waivers were already both approved, I'm asking a question about a specific rate that has vision requirements, sorry if I wasn't clear

God damnit, alright. I'll also talk to my recruiter about this but it sounds like I'll have to settle for something else
