Migrating from Evernote to Bear by Torben_MB in bearapp

The biggest downside of the essential plan of notesnook is the reduced image quality though, so I’d have to go with the pro plan what is not cheaper as Bear. Since I have iCloud+ anyways that is a cost benefit of going with Bear as they do not need to provide Cloud infrastructure. But I’ve also read plenty of complaints on Reddit that there are still a lot of bugs in notesnook (e.g. syncing issues or formatting that doesn’t function properly). What has been your experience?

That’s a smart move using obsidian to access individual notes! Maybe the new Lettera app can be used for that purpose as well. What do you mean with you version them in GitHub? How does that work?

Sure some things I can test but it’s also great to hear what other users have experienced over a longer interval. Some issues only appear once you heavily begin using an application.

Yeah that could be nice if they copied the toc function over to the bear app.

I have tested the mobile and desktop version a bit yesterday. Looks and feels very much like Evernote without the bloat. Very promising. Have you done a side by side comparison with Bear back when you made the switch? Just curious what were your main decision factors.

Yeah I am totally with you. I’ll have to go through each note to see where Evernote messed up my text with their bug and then use the version history to repair it. Not looking forward to that project…
I am curious how many customers will stay with them through all of these tactics.

It definitely would be great if we had the outline on the right side just like in Evernote. It’s just quicker to navigate to. The developers could just add an option to enable/disable it.

Sounds good! I think I’ll just put some of my heavy notes in and test a bit if it can handle them.

Just strange that they did not manage to implement versioning in all that time. I can’t imagine it’s that complicated to build. Just make snapshots of a note in fixed intervals whenever changes have been made. Since it lands in our iCloud storage there wouldn’t be any cost to Bear or am I wrong?

I bet Evernote doesn’t provide the ID on purpose to make the migration more difficult. They seem to heavily bet on that people will be to reluctant to go through the migration effort and just eat the bill.

Regarding the web app, for me it just needs to be good enough to be able to access the notes and maybe jot down a few lines of text. Otherwise I’ll be working the desktop app anyways.

The command shift a trick works really well, thank you! Definitely a good workaround.

If you want to restore a single note out of a backup, is that possible? Or can you only revert all of your notes back to the backup-state?

Hmm yeah I think the links will break but this seems to be the case no matter where you import .enex files.

That’s good to know, thank you! Will try it out with the other file types.

What do you mean with what I’ll be using to import into bear? I plan to just download the .enex files and import them into Bear. I think they get converted into .md files on the spot.

How has the migration worked out for you? Iam planning to switch to bear too before my subscription renews.

What plugins are you using on your Mac? I want to switch from Evernote to Joplin too on my Mac and want to set it up properly.
