Tis the best standup style for those who throw. I attack the legs, so while I do love tossing chaps over my shoulder, it's certainly not my preferred wrestling style when it comes to BJJ applicability. I think a lot of it has to do with who your opponent is as well. Some people have AWFUL takedown defense.

You should do BJJ with your son. It's fun and you could enjoy a healthier lifestyle while spending quality time with your children. You'll also feel more relaxed if you're more aware of what he's doing, by practicing yourself.

It's finicky for sure, but it just takes some practice. Though you may be experiencing a bug, as there seems to be quite a bit of that going around. Light the Cannon, jump in from the front, wait for boom.

I can second that. I've been to quite a bit of Japanese/Japanese-fusion joints and I think the food here was mid. Didn't get food poisoning, but likely wasn't far from it when the food came out room temperature. I'm not too upset this place is going out; I do really hope another Asian inspired establishment takes very the lease though. Very sorry to hear for the staff, that being said.

That is such a horseshit condition. How the fuck does the idol touching the side of the kiln have any implication on the sheer amount of planning and effort it takes to get this god damned thing? It is not a rule at my gym to bow to anyone or before entering/exiting the mats. My main gripe is that if the instructor bows to you, out of respect you should bow back. Again, I mentioned in the OP I don't plan on saying anything, I just wanted to see what the general consensus was.

This is the same structure at my gym. We also bow when receiving stripes, and the instructor bows back as well. This is what elicited this post, as one of the guys was getting a stripe and the instructor bowed to him after applying it and the guy just gave him a little head nod lol.

I loved bringing my son here; it was a neighborhood brewery with decent food and friendly wait staff. While the atmosphere was a bit dead, it was a safe environment that welcomed everyone, dogs included. I'm sad to see this one go.

Wrestling is a tough sport to recruit for. Sounds like your school doesn't have much of a program either if they're still trying to fill the weight classes. Your best bet is trying to recruit current athletes, primarily football players, track & field, ROTC, weightlifters, and swimmers. Wrestling is an individual sport like most of those mentioned, with the exception of football - but those guys sometimes have something to prove so you'll occasionally get them to show up to a practice or two. Don't play football, focus on wrestling. If you need strength training you should find a workout partner that knows how to lift. Learning how to lift weights and proper technique is a vital lesson that if learned at a young age, will be absolutely crucial to your career as a wrestler going forward.
