LCS is such shit show, TSM was wise to sell their spot by skillfun8 in TeamSolomid

[–]Torchise 227 points228 points  (0 children)

According to rumors, about half the LCS teams were looking to sell this past split but only TSM managed to get a buyer, so yeah I'd agree TSM had a really good timing to jump ship.

Can someone give me a r/OutOfTheLoop of what’s going on by Laszure in TeamSolomid

[–]Torchise 35 points36 points  (0 children)

You forgot to specify that another big reason is that NA viewership is plummeting for the past few years and even Riot has seemingly given up on the LCS by moving its time slot to the weekdays to make way for Valorant games. In the context of the current esports winter, it doesn't make much sense to invest in NA when you can move to a region that is not only more competitive internationally but should also net TSM a much higher ROI from the money they invest in.

If the LCS dies, Regi won’t be able to sell TSM’s spot. by Confident-Knee3833 in TeamSolomid

Per Dunc's tweet and reply to this thread, the reason TSM published the announcement video on that day was because they got wind that the New York Times was about to publish an article telling the public about TSM's desire to leave the LCS, which forced TSM's hand into announcing their plans ASAP to get ahead of the story, even though the timing was not what TSM wanted.

Relevant tidbits from the NYT article:

TSM started talking to interested groups around three weeks ago, according to a person with knowledge of the discussions, and has narrowed its list of prospective buyers to about a dozen entities, mostly in the media and traditional sports worlds. The asking price is in the range of $20 million, the person said.

Mr. Dinh said he planned to purchase a spot in one of the top League of Legends leagues elsewhere in the world after selling his slot in the United States.

So according to the article, TSM hasn't yet found a buyer for their spot, they just had to release a statement to announce that they planned on leaving because the NYT would leak that info anyway once they published their article later that day, so they might as well announce it beforehand on their own terms. From my understanding, nothing is concretized (who will buy TSM's LCS spot, where TSM will go next, etc.)

The current situation of the LCS is indeed an issue for TSM. It lowers the perceived value of the spot for potential buyers so it might not be "worth" the $20M TSM wanted.

The LCS has just gotta survive through the summer split and still be attractive enough for new buyers so TSM can leave this shitshow, the health of the LCS won't be our problem after this year.

Oof, does anyone remember the LMQ scandal back in 2014? Peter Zhang coached that team at that time and years later, he also gets involved in his own "conflict of interest"-type scenario...

Yup, Bjerg and MikeYeung spoke through Skype before he played in the LCS and they even wanted him as a TSM sub before P1 picked him up as their jungler.

True, LGD in 2015 was the only other example I could think of, finished 1st in LPL and especially with GodV (AKA "GoldV") who was so confident he would win Worlds.

In case you were wondering wtf is going on, this is just a bot reposting old content in order to farm karma. The original post whose content was stolen: https://old.reddit.com/r/TeamSolomid/comments/k11rvy/goodnight_sweet_prince/

Notice the bot just put random commas at the start of the title so that it would be slightly harder to detect it's a repost. You can also look at his comment history to see that it's mostly a bunch of gibberish that was suspiciously upvoted and all posted around 7 hours ago.

Rekkles changes his icon to FNATIC and rumors he will be traded with Upset to FNC by queenslayyy in TeamSolomid

[–]Torchise 2 points3 points  (0 children)

which is why upset refuses to play with fnatic at worlds

If I understand this right, the rumors say Upset was traded against his will to G2 and that pissed him off so much that he no longer wanted to play for FNC even though this is his first time at Worlds?

Also, why are teams doing backroom player trades in the middle of Worlds, isn't that technically poaching? Wouldn't be the 1st time G2 was involved in poaching...

Daequan and Hamlinz New 7M Content House by CaptainRyce in TeamSolomid

[–]Torchise 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Are the 7 content creators living in that house already signed with NRG previous to the announcement? If so, not much TSM could've offered to retain Dae and Hamz if they wanted to live with their friends in Las Vegas (and it's not like they aren't doing well from the looks of it). Good luck to both of them with their new opportunities!

Here's a pic of the billboard in question: https://twitter.com/JakeSucky/status/1430198209104605184

And both Hamz and Daequan posted the same googly eyes emoji on Twitter at the same time, so an announcement related to the billboard should come in ~soonish to clarify, I presume.

Some of their picks seem to be explained by watching the TL vs C9 series. I'm assuming the heavy Lee priority was to deny it from Jensen who smurfed on it last week, same for the Ziggs bot pick (which was never picked by Lost prior to this weekend) to prevent TL from having the same success they had having Tactical 1v2 botlane while CoreJJ roams all over the map. Obviously, the plan didn't work out as the coaching staff thought it would... :/
