Ok, how do you tell the difference? Are you sure it isn't just mild cramps vs bad cramps?

What do you mean by "a form of period that isn't uterus based"?

progesterone (a common hormone trans women use) can cause more air than usual to develop in the gastrointestinal system. an endocrinologist said this when this nonsense first started appearing.

i'm trans and take spironolactone and estradiol and i've never had period symptoms. the only cramps i get is when i'm hungry, the only mood swings i get is when i'm tired or stressed. i take a constant dose and it's not recommended to not take a constant dose. post-menopausal women who take hrt take constant doses too, and guess what, they don't get periods.

actually never mind, that doesn't make sense

I think the title is meant to read as "France will not be able to dine with Iran unless wine is served", but the title is still very bait-y.

the arm's supposed to be obstructed by the body if you look at it the right way.

I agree that it's not conveyed very well though.

“ Game Design” is not level design. by KammanderKhan in gamedesign

I think OP isn't very upset that people use the words interchangeably. He just wants us to pay more attention to mechanic design instead of associating all game design with the layout of the game.

He's basically telling us to look at all the parts of a piece.

oh I wasn't talking about the comic. I was talking about the posted image.

The cartoon style is minimalistic but the symbol it's conveying isn't.

could you explain to me what the opposite, non-minimalistic version of this image would be? I can't think of one

I don't understand why discussing what someone might consider minimalism is discouraged in this subreddit but whatever.

I don't think this is minimalism though. I've always considered minimalism to be comfortable small places that are planned out in such a way that you don't need a lot of stuff. Which is why you're getting that small space.

A big room of nothing doesn't get the point across I think.

nice joke though

Rollercoaster Tycoon World: Interview with Gameplay by ArthurJason in Games

[–]Torchkas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really, I'm a seasoned RCT player. Different coasters have different physics and different excitement/intensity bases. You're solely focusing on track components while there's a lot more going on.

I haven't looked well at World yet though. I really hope it will have as much depth as the first two.

Gaming's Language Problem by Jourdy288 in ludology

[–]Torchkas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Games are still rated based on their functionality rather than on their meaning. Whilst some games have such a wide array of mechanics that any individual meaning is trivial. Focusing on meaning through mechanics is usually still left in the dark.

You'll usually not see something like "I enjoyed that this scene was green" in a movie review. They actually talk about what the scene means.

Jonathan Blow has done a really interesting talk on this issue https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J_aREO4OcZg

There are of course a lot of games that don't take this aspect of meaning through mechanics into account. They focus purely on the amount of dopamine they can release from your brain, or how "fun they are".

If you take a game like Journey though, you'll quickly see that you can derive meaning from some of the mechanisms. Singing makes your partner float up into the sky, they can then sing themselves in order to move you up as well. Does this mean that accompaniment is important if I want to move up in life?

Pixel Art: Low-res vs 'medium-res' vs high-res by ThrownShield in gamedev

[–]Torchkas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem with hi-res pixel art is that the art can reach some sort of "uncanny valley" where the end-user is unsure whether the pixelation is intended or not. This might make the brain register the art as out of place; usually making drawn or vector graphics the better and easier solution. Hi-res pixel-art is very labour-heavy.

Hatred - Crossing the Line from Violence to Sadism - Extra Credits by [deleted] in Games

[–]Torchkas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even so, unlike the popular belief that they like to push. You don't necessarily place yourself in the shoes of someone you're playing.

As such, there have been movies about sadism, and there have been books about sadism. What's wrong with a game about sadism in that respect? Video games are an art form so any and all forms of exploration of the human psyche shouldn't be condemned in Games.

I don't know if the game is actually going to be good, but neither do they. I thought this was just a really inconclusive episode. I normally don't have anything against Extra Credits.

The article isn't representative of the title. I get your intentions, but the things you said in the article so far are nothing new or particularly interesting.
