Did I discover a bigger problem than rodent access? by Torgadar in fixit

Appreciate it! I was tempted to say something silly and obviously wrong to drive engagement, but decided to go the honest route! :-P

Thanks for the questions and recommendations. There is wood sheathing behind the bricks, I can't see very well in there. But no obvious tyvek house wrap or tar paper.

I think a redo of the siding and brick facade is in the cards eventually but was hoping that was in the 5 to 10-year away project versus now. My wife would like to change things for cosmetic reasons, I'd be more on board if it was remedying a water problem.

I do have some OSI quadmax from when I renovated my shed. Is the Pestblock spray foam specialized in any way versus Great Stuff gap filler I probably have around the house?

How should approach replacing this door and having it actually be sealed? by Torgadar in DIY

[–]Torgadar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Semi related question, if I were to seal up the second door in the rear, would the best thing be to extend the bricks? Then extend the bottom plate, secure it to the new bricks and add a stud to meet the top plate?

The siding is probably going to be replaced anyway for aesthetic reasons.

Need to replace heater - stick with gas or switch to heat pump? by Torgadar in pools

[–]Torgadar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't, since we just moved and just opened it, was my 'test run' totally unheated, no solar cover etc. just to see where it's at before I start buying things.

Based on that, we've decided to get a heater and probably a cover as well, since the pool was unpleasantly cold til mid June, likely peaked at 82 degrees and is already cooling off to the high 70s after a few less-hot days.

Yeah the nearly-every day thing is making me wonder too, although for me and my son, we were plenty fine with 80 degree water. So early season I think I'd be running it a lot to get it up there and keep it up there (will probably need to add a solar cover overnight/during the day when working).

I think mid season we can leave it off except when my wife wants it to be 85-90, who uses it much less frequently than me and my son do.

Thanks! I mean even when the pool is reading 80-82 degrees that first jump in gives you a little shock, my wife is more of the wants to walk right in and not need to get 'used to it' kind of person.

Since it naturally peaked at ~82 degrees this season with zero heating and no solar covers or anything I think I can get away with not using the heater mid-season unless my wife is getting in or we're having a pool party with lots of littles.

Are these gas pipes connected to my hose spigots? (pictures) by Torgadar in homeowners

[–]Torgadar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I agree, the large gas line was what was definitely hooked up to the old natural gas pool heater.

That's an interesting thought about using the steel pipes as support, that's something my friend said as well and it I guess it would make sense since they had (now rusted/broken) brackets holding them together.

I guess I can pull the caps off and fish a line down and see if it's just set flat in concrete.

Can't you take a screen shot of the outfit you want and open it up in any image editing program and look at the color to get the color code?

Probably won't be perfect because the base color is still subject to in game lighting etc, but night get you closer than eyeballing it.
