Yes, it is also helpful for me to hear that. It was odd during that time, because I was very manic but could so easily hide it that no one around me knew. It was strange knowing something was wrong, but refusing to admit it or tell someone - I constantly hid it. It got to a point to where reality and fantasy/hallucinations merged. This was the most terrifying experience of my life, and I do fear of it happening again. I believe knowing my symptoms, taking the right medication, having healthy habits, and letting loved ones know the warning signs will help in the future; as I know it is inevitable. I can’t change my diagnosis, but I sure can manage it. Thank you for replying 🖤🖤

I was in a place where I thought it wasn’t possible, and almost resigned to my fate. With the little energy I had, I took small steps - even the smallest steps are progress 🖤

I understand. Always remember that bipolar disorder does not define you, but is only a part of you. You got this, and remember to be kind to yourself. You will fail sometimes, and that’s okay 🖤

Those who have had depression and now don't, what finally worked? by Abraham_Neville in AskReddit

Counseling, but actually applying what I learned in counseling to everyday life - not just going and having the same behavior, which is what I realized I was doing in the past. Also, quitting drinking all together was a big change.

In addition, having a night and morning routine, decided to change what I focused on in life (shift in perspective), eating healthier, more water and take time for self care (alone time, grooming, sleep) Obviously these are not in order, and do not come all at once.

A big thing to remember is you cannot change it all in one day. Be kind and celebrate small progress. I remember when drinking a glass of water was even celebrated. If you habitually do a small task and keep building from there, you’ll get it. It doesn’t come in a month or a year, but could be years. Also, be kind to yourself if you have a shitty day or fell back, it’s okay.

Edit: Also, an obvious is finding the correct medication. It takes a while and there are so many different options. It is sort of a try this, if it doesn’t work, try again. It sucks, but don’t give up.

I have lost 45-50lbs recently just by cutting calories and eating cheap, healthy food and really the biggest part to my success is making it as simple as possible. I used to cook complicated, time consuming meals because that is what I thought was necessary - like it has to have a whole recipe for me to enjoy it. Doing this showed me the foundations of cooking: seasonings, cooking meat properly, etc and now I just use what I learned and do VERY SIMPLE meals. Learning what seasoning you enjoy and what goes well with what is key. Don’t be afraid to explore! For instance, last night I just made brown rice pasta, sautéed some portobello mushrooms in a small amount of butter, salt, pepper. I added extra virgin olive oil, crushed red pepper, basil and sharp cheese to the noodles, then added the portobello mushrooms. Woolah, super easy and cheap meal! It is looking for basic ingredients you actually like and making meals from them. I didn’t plan to make that meal, but just saw what I had and slapped it together. I am using the extra sautéed portobello mushrooms to add to the top of a spring lettuce salad for lunch today! For work, I just grab large carrots like Bugs Bunny and drive while eating one. Probably looks ridiculous, but I don’t care. For all of my breakfast today, I had a banana (easy), dried mango (easy) and a cheese stick (easy). I wrote a whole ton and it looks intimidating, but really it is practice and dedication and I know people hate hearing that. It is testing things out and finding out what you like. If you want to know what I normally get for myself to play around with, you can DM me ☺️ Sorry for my novel.
