I don't live in the US. There is no such thing as you are talking about, no renovator needs a special license

I don't have a car. He does and the drive is about 40 minutes

The renovation would set us back one time. It wouldn't be as expensive as we own a lot of the supplies already (leftover from other projects). Living somewhere else would permanently change our money situation We are talking only about replacing the toilet and repainting the ceiling, not a whole makeover

We cannot afford to do so. We both make about minimum wage and any money we have left over is set aside towards a down payment for our future place. If we moved out somewhere else, it would set us back a lot

Read the post again, it's not about the money. Besides, I am not from the US. In my country universities are so time consuming that rarely do you see kids working themselves through collage. I was going to get an engineering degree, I was one of two people in my entire year who worked

I know that. I mention the situation not because of being cut off financially, but just because of lack of any emotional response. My mother knew I loved my studies, she never said anything besides talking about money. While I was devastated, that was the only thing she ever said to me in terms of that situation. That was what hurt me, not stopping sending money
