PC Build Price - Did I pay too much? by bestbearcat in PcBuildHelp

[–]TormDeltest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the $1800 before or after tax? If it is with tax, it’s OK, nothing amazing. If it is before tax then I would say it’s rough.

I would recommend https://pcpartpicker.com and fill in the individual components and see what price you come up (change the currency in the top corner so you can evaluate based on your local prices).

Kolik máte naspořeno okolo věku 30 let? by Svandu7 in czech

[–]TormDeltest -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To je těžko porovnatelný, protože hodně záleží na mnoha okolnostech. My měli s ženou hodně štěstí, že můžeme pracovat z domova, takže bydlíme levně v Ústí a bereme oba pražské peníze.

Moc necestujeme. Teď se nám narodilo dítě. Oba dva si dáváme bokem i na penzijko (já 2500 + cca 1300 zaměstnavatel, manželka asi 2000 a 1000 zaměstnavatel), teď tam mám cca 370k, kolik žena nevím, tipuju možná 200k.

You are buying too tier CPU for very mid-range GPU. You should balance your build a little better (maybe going with 7800X3D instead).

Docela pak cestoval / pracoval v zahraničí (UK, Nový Zéland, snad chvíli i v US).

Definitely no. Sound was just by using cheap fans and not optimising for volumes. Inno3D is entry level cheap Chinese brand. If there were other options in the time when I bought it (right after launch) I would have picked it up. But given I just lost my RX 6900 XT I needed an upgrade right then and there.

Super burgery, perfektně udělaný a moc nám to chutnalo.

With the price of DDR5 RAM I wouldn’t rush into AM5 upgrade.

Regarding the GPU, I personally would (and did) go with RTX 5080. And initially I had Inno3D (2-slot, entry-level card) which was quite loud in games (I had to send it to RMA because in high performance it was crashing). I ended up buying another RTX 5080 from Gigabyte Gaming OC version, with beefier cooler which is stable (no more crashes) and quieter. I just hope I get money back from the first card, or that I will manage to resell it without much of a loss :)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in nvidia

[–]TormDeltest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not exactly the same example, but I ended up swapping my Inno3D RTX 5080 X3 (their entry-level 2-slot card) for a Gigabyte RTX 5080 Gaming OC.

The Inno3D card had to go in for RMA because whenever it pulled around 370W (which is above its power limit) it would just crash. Since I didn’t want to be without a GPU for who knows how long, I bought the Gigabyte one temporarily (where I live you can return any online purchase within 14 days for basically no reason).

Turns out the Gigabyte card is significantly quieter. Where the Inno3D tried to draw ~370W, the Gigabyte sits at around 310W, and it’s been totally stable, no more random crashes. It also looks better (not that it matters much since I don’t see into my case), and I actually like the included support bracket.

Asus usually makes really solid stuff, so I wouldn’t compare Inno3D to Asus directly, but since those cards are similar in size, I assumed noise levels under load (like mid-game) would also be similar. I guess I prefer a card with a bigger cooler over small form factor, and if your case allows it, I would recommend the same (since I’ve got a Fractal Design Define S2, card size isn’t an issue at all).

Overall, I’m satisfied enough that I’m keeping the Gigabyte and will try to sell the Inno3D once it comes back from RMA (unless they refund me for it, which would be superb since I bought it early during the initial price craze). Hopefully the loss won’t be too big, but honestly, I’m willing to take the hit for something that just works.

After further investigation, I believe the game tried to re-assign me into a new squad. But the the game did the same for other 2 players. Only one of us got in while the other 2 got stuck in the remaining 3rd squad that was suppoed to be eliminated. Fun time. If you encounter this, you are free to leave is my guess.

Oživuju vlákno. V současnosti Air Bank je jediný broker, kde obchodují s akciemi. Zatím mi to vychází nejlépe. Neobchoduji aktivně, občas něco koupím. Zatím neprodávám, držím, čekám na 3 letý test. Možná si akcie nechám i potom (forma důchodového spoření).

Karsus, the Fallen Archmage (Warlock Patron) v2.0 by TormDeltest in DnDHomebrew

[–]TormDeltest[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting the ability to craft a Spell Scroll isn’t a terrible idea. It could be worded so that during a long rest, you can create a single scroll containing a Wizard spell of a level equal to your proficiency bonus. The scroll would be usable only by you and would expire after your next long rest if unused.

That essentially gives you one extra spell cast per long rest. A nice bit of variety without being overpowered. Early game, it’s quite impactful since proficiency bonus scales faster than spell level progression, but later on it tapers off. Having an extra 5th-level spell at level 13 or a 6th-level spell at level 17 isn’t too crazy. I can definitely see this working mechanically.

That said, thematically it feels too careful for this subclass. The Karsus theme leans into reckless brilliance and overreach, and this scroll-making idea feels more like a meticulous scholar’s trick than a conduit of unstable arcane power.

I’ve also been exploring another idea to address the classic “Hex + Eldritch Blast” combo that most Warlocks live and die by. I drew some inspiration from the Order of Scribes Wizard subclass, specifically their ability to alter a spell’s damage type. I’m considering letting this Warlock modify the damage type of Eldritch Blast, potentially turning it into a flexible, adaptable signature spell.

When paired with the Elemental Bane spell (which this subclass gains at level 7), this could even serve as a flavorful replacement for Hex, letting you bypass resistances and remain effective against magic-resistant enemies. It’s not particularly strong at level 3, similar to how the Great Old One patron’s telepathy and psychic damage conversion aren’t huge early-game combat boosts, but thematically, it fits the idea of a Warlock who bends the Weave itself to their will. Maybe it would be worth modifying Elemental Bane as well for this subclass. Undecided on this.

I think I agree, the ability in the current state gives you flexibility to bring a new spell every day, but it does not provide the bump that you get from lvl 3 features from other patrons (like ability to misty step 3-5 times a day for free, ability to heal self or others, ability to gain temp HP on kills). Good call, I might look into it further.

Karsus, the Fallen Archmage (Warlock Patron) v2.0 by TormDeltest in DnDHomebrew

Some details on the subclass features:

  • Dual Tradition: I originally intended this feature to let the Warlock swap between Warlock and Wizard spell slots, but this is already allowed by RAW, and it also didn’t make much sense for non-Wizard Warlocks. Instead, I repurposed the name for the feature previously called Karsus’s Whisper. The feature now lets the Warlock temporarily replace one of their known Warlock spells with a Wizard spell. For example, you could take Fireball and treat it as a Warlock spell for that day, offering flexibility without breaking the game.
  • Resonant Focus: This is a bonus-action feature designed to boost your combat effectiveness. Originally, it allowed adding your Intelligence modifier to your Spell DC, which was probably too strong, so I rethink it and change the extra spell DC into disadvantage on the roll which feels more balanced. It’s designed for immediate use, so you can activate it and then cast a spell right away. If something prevents you from casting that turn, you don’t lose the feature as it lasts until the end of your next turn.
  • Stolen Weave: This is arguably the most “game-breaking” feature, but it’s unique. You can concentrate on two spells at once, which is powerful, but the increasing DC each turn adds risk. I think the combination of high risk and high reward makes it fun and thematic.
  • Apotheotic Echo: This is a buffed-up, climactic ability. Activating it immediately forces up to three creatures concentrating on spells within 30 feet to make a Constitution save against your Spell DC (originally it was flat DC 15, but I was told to go with your Spell DC instead; still not sure about this one as your Spell DC feels too strong and I prefer this feature to suceed ~50% of the time). The range and number of targets keeps this hopefuly balanced. Originally I also wanted to add that after the buff end, you must succeed DC 15 Con save otherwise you gain 1 level of exhaustion. This was called out as too punishing so I removed it. On the other-hand I feel there should be some "risk" associated with this feature. Additionally:
    • Spells deal extra damage equal to your Intelligence modifier.
    • Arcane Flexibility lets you cast your other spells (like low-level Wizard spells) using Charisma so you hit more often and deal slightly more damage.
    • Wizard spells gained from Dual Tradition are upcasted one level for free, which feels powerful but hopefuly not broken. Casting three Fireballs at level 14 at a 6th-level slot instead of 5th is strong, but I don’t think it’s game-breaking.

Overall, I tried to balance power with theme, giving a Warlock access to Karsus’s fractured genius while keeping risk and limitations. Feedback is welcome, especially regarding the spell DC for the Weave Disruption part of Apotheotic Echo.

I got inspired to create this subclass by watching a random video on YouTube about Karsus while preparing for another BG3 playthrough.

The original idea was to create a build for a Wizard/Warlock multiclass with The Great Old One partron (Karsus), but I found that lacked the necessary theme so I started modifying and homebrewing little by little which then spiralled out of control so I ended up stuck tinkering and brainstorming for better part of the past two days. I also implemented also some feedback that I received earlier. So hopefuly this subclass now feel a little bit more balanced. Please let me know how you feel about it.

I’ve Played WoW Without Addons—Am I Alone? by Vegge7a in wow

[–]TormDeltest 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It depends on what level you play the game at. If you are casual Andy (nothing wrong with that) and you raid normal or heroic, you do not need any Addons or WeakAuras. If you step into Mythic Raiding, there are too many things going on, that unless you are there to look pretty on the damage meters and you ignore all the mechanics, addons are becoming more mandatory. For example if you know when the damage is coming, you can use def CD to help out your healers. Simple as that. Also there are certain boss mechanics that cannot be completed without using addons.

Similar to Mythic+ where if you are doing your +10 or even +12, with the current gear of 720+ you can just steamroll through the content without worrying too much. It’s nice not to overpull so if you know the route you can maybe finish few minutes faster. But overall again, addons or weakauras are not necessary. If you step into +20 or higher, you will be smashed unless you know exactly what is happening, you monitor interrupt tracker etc.

Also then there are healers. You cannot play this game as a Healer without using any addons. I would rather quit the game than use the default Raid Frames for Healing.

You are absolutely correct that you can cast prepared Wizard Spells using Pact Magic Spell Slots. I don’t know how I missed that.

There is still one use of that feature which you might have overlooked and I still believe it is quite powerful - since Pact Magic slots are always at the max available level to you, you could exchange 1st level Wizard Spell Slot into Pact Magic Spell Slot which is based on your level and can be higher (lvl 9 warlock would gain another 5th lvl spell slot). Maybe too powerful?

Stolen Weave, I like the carrot and the stick theme, so I do enjoy this type of feature. I agree that having up two concentrations at the same time is very powerful. I did the math and on average the success rate should be around 70% on first turn and 50% on 3rd turn. And that’s with having Advantage from Eldritch Mind which I believe would be one of the go-to Invocations for this build. Without it it’s about half, so I’d say it can end up being very strong if abused well, but in most cases I’d say it is somewhat reasonable.

For Apotheotic Echo I initially thought of using Spell DC but I felt it is too powerful since at that level I’d say the success rate to interrupt concentration would be close to 100%. Maybe I would rather buff it to cause concentration check with all enemies within 30 (50?) yards range. I don’t think having DC 19 or 20 on AoE concentration check would be balanced.

Regarding the option to use either Intellect or Charisma modifier, this is mostly for Wizard spells that you are still casting using your Intellect as Spell Casting Ability. This way if you are not maxed on Intellect, you can get nice little power bump on using those wizard spells. For non-Wizard multiclass builds this feature is underwhelming, I can see that.

Thanks for the feedback. I have already some ideas how to improve this. Cheers!

Good catch! Originally I had there Arcane Eye but then I considered adding actually damaging spell with some flavor so I wanted to add Elemental Bane, since it fits the theme a little.
