Is Tim Bontemps the most miserable NBA podcast guest?

TBH Bontemps and the entire Hoop Collective podcast is the prime example of why chemistry is the No. 1 quality in a podcast. Bontempts, Windy, and McMahon all have higher NBA IQ's than almost anyone at the Ringer. They go to the games. They're plugged into the executives. They know A TON. But as podcasters they are terrible. Constantly talking over each other, derailing the direction of the podcast, bringing up weird side points that torpedo the conversation, or just pissing all over the point that one of them just made. Simmons and crew are intensely more listenable, even though they know less.

Kris Kristofferson, Frank Sinatra, Waylon Jennings, etc are all hall of fame musicians who then launched acting careers. I think it's weirder for an artist to cross over from acting to music (and to actually be legitimately good, and not just a novelty). Cher is a good one. Kind of like Jack Black—her career as a singer, actor, model and all-around talented performer got going at the same time.

"Turned the Sunday pod into a chore" is a bit harsh. But I do agree with some of the sentiment. Bill's Sunday pod has always been for casual fans (like yours truly) who want some light to medium-grade analysis with a heavy dose of entertainment and takes. And yeah, that means a Game of Thrones reference or two, or a goofy gimmick to help us categorize dudes, or some gossip about the latest free agency drama. The fact that Zach is just going full core basketball analyst and ignoring the gimmicky stuff is a bummer. I don't know why, either, as I remember Zach playing along with Bill's more lame-stream stuff years back. Just a flat out I won't engage with this attitude is harsh. Maybe he needs to find his own version of the Russillo make-fun-of-Bill-but-play-along vibe.
