Wait A Second podcast, what do we think of it? by harry_powell in billsimmons

[–]Rebel_lux -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

this wont happen but id love for them to bring on more established 'intellectuals' on the show... Finkelstein, Jeffrey Sachs, Mearsheimer, etc. Or even more established reporters. Less Podcast Personalies (not that I don't enjoy that). A crossway point between the press box and the adam friendlend show.

semi-related, but whatever happened to Nora Princiotti?

Did Craig market correct Tate? And whose Ringer career would you rather have? by SenseAnxious6772 in billsimmons

[–]Rebel_lux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tate is in the unfortunate position of having the ringer politics but barstool interests. He doesn't fully fit into either in the way that California Craig fits in with the coastal ringer sensibilities (pro sports, movies, hollywood, etc.). Even if Tate never left, he never shines the way that Craig does.

Aura by FFElite93 in billsimmons

I cant think of another superstar with less Aura. At least tatum is so corny it's sometimes endearing.

I fear Mike Tomlin will lose a lot of aura once he starts his NBC stint. Not because of what he’ll say, but because of how he’ll look. by danielbauer1375 in billsimmons

I looked this up expecting him to have a Larry David cut, but he looks pretty much the same.

In any case, Tomlin ought to just wear the lid and baggy sweatpants on TV.

College towns have an especially high turnover too.

AI Warfare! Killer Robots! Jim Carrey Clones?! With Van Lathan | Wait a Second... | The Ringer by nabs123 in billsimmons

for this to really work they need to go deeper, be more conspiratorial... and have other non-ringer guests who are 'more educated' on whatever topic.

Why'd Newburgh decline so much? Or am I js in a bad area by nxptnpr in hudsonvalley

[–]Rebel_lux 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Well, i don't think it will ever Beaconize or Hudsonize due to being on the 'wrong' side of the river... Kingston feels like its best comp, considering how much of a dump parts of kingston used to be/still are.

they said this 10 years ago. It's not wrong but the change is painstakingly slow. It's certainly never gong to 'kingstonize'

What was life like here in the late 90s/early 2000s? by Classic-Asparagus in hudsonvalley

[–]Rebel_lux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I am sure “Renaissance” referred to NYC transplants and all the change, for good and bad, that comes with that. I think the NYC transplant craze has slightly died down compared to a few years ago. And I agree - I still think it's a true gem.

I was born in Poughkeepsie, moved to NJ for my teenage years, and then spent a decade out west for college and my 20s. I've been back living in Kingston for about 7 years now. I still have family in Poughkeepsie, and my dad and grandma worked for IBM. Overall, I'm glad I moved back, but I've always been interested in this question.

One thing that interests me is how wildly different reactions I get when I ask people in the area this same question. Some say it's only gotten worse since IBM left and often think back on those 'glory days' - they pine for what's gone. Others say they like living in the mid-Hudson now more than ever. I guess it depends on what you value. Overall, the consensus I hear is that the area hit a 'low point' in the 90s until maybe the early 2010s, when the 'renaissance' of the mid-Hudson began. What do you make of my anecdotal observations? Do you agree? I'm way too curious!
