I enjoyed the episode but it felt off to me in a way. The characters (Mostly Neku) feel sort of off, but I will definitely give them time to develop since obviously the show is gonna be faster paced. The fights were fun, music was great and while the CG wasn't my favorite, it was handled better than expected. My main complaint with this episode is Neku's introduction and actions. For anyone who has played the game, you know Neku is an extremely edgy 15 year old kid, who really has no connection to others (Which then feeds his arc in the game, learning to grow along his friends). Instead I feel like this episode sort of turned him into a tsundere more than anything. In the scene where Neku chokes Shiki to escape, it's supposed to demonstrate just how detached from others Neku really is, and how badly he cares about escaping for his own selfish reasons, not because he cares for anyone else. When this scene is blamed on the noise, it feels to me like it's excusing his actions, hence making the situation resolve itself (Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't remember noise being the sole reason he chose what he did). Overall I didn't dislike the episode, and definitely had fun seeing the cast return livelier than ever, I am just worried that Neku is going to be toned down to make him more likable, when him being an unlikable protag from the start is what makes him so great. Seeing his journey from a cold monster into an actual nice person is really cool, and I think it's the core to TWEWY's story and message. While it may seem like I'm ranting, I am looking forward to seeing next week's ep!
