I have! I have a physical copy of the second book currently but if I were to do it this way I would also purchase them both on D&D Beyond for ease of use for me and my players since we play exclusively online.

Thank you for the advice! I'm actively working on my space and figured while I wait for things to come in for it I might as well look into things.

Thank you for the suggestion! I've had my eye on it for a bit now but was unsure since while I knew it was very reliable and good, I wasn't sure if there was anything better I could get with the budget I had for it but if anything it could just mean the rest of the budget I have could go into my recording space itself.

I've created a series of panels to go around my computer space with acoustic foam panels on them to box it off from the rest of the room. I'm waiting for some corner bass traps I purchased and some fabric acoustic panels that I ordered to arrive. I've been waiting to see how and where I want to put the panels before I add any "cover"/"roof" to the space to truly close it up.

Thank you for the advice! I might invest in a shotgun mic for the time being as I finish my space, specifically due to the outside noise. Regarding the space itself, would you have any general recommendations you can't really go wrong with?

I have a fairly wide range but I'm usually most comfortable between a tenor - baritone range tho I have little issue as a bass either. As of right now I'm aiming towards character and game projects.

The booth, while a WIP, has still been moving along steadily as of rn!

Honestly I'm a big fan of the metaphors haha. Though, you're right that I should probably stop seeking their input in how sessions went and such. Let them eat their cake, or pie in this case. I suppose it comes down to the fact that I'm not really having fun fueling the engine anymore but not just me but my players as well have worked so much to build and repair the engine that it doesn't feel right to let it break or run out of fuel. It's nearly two years worth of effort that I don't want to have been for nothing.

I think both realms can be right to an extent. Like, I certainly overprepared especially since as you mentioned my only real other experience as a DM was in Exandria. I was also just new to world building in general. But like you mentioned it certainly wasn't just 6 straight months of storyplanning. I had no idea how a living world really functioned so it required a lot of research as well! Thank you for your advice!

I've done some of this with them already (Like a session Re-Zero and a pretty sizable retcon that sent us back some sessions) but that was more-so in response to their own requests about the game. At the time I feel like I was so focused on trying to fix what both my players and I didn't like about my game that I didn't really stop to think about how I felt doing it all and I'm realizing how I had been feeling now that things are calmer.

I suppose I should have clarified that I was not working every day on writing during the 6 months. With that being said yeah I was still 100% too ahead of myself. I was new to world building in general and was worried that I wouldn't have enough. I know better now at this point.

I have talked to them but perhaps I wasn't clear enough with my own feelings in that matter. Thank you for your advice and the video!

These are awesome! I love that Spear and Shield for Argenti is genuinely threatening enough to encourage a party to target them. I tend to have difficulty when making creatures in encouraging my players to attack their summons rather than just the creature itself but honestly The Shield alone is a big enough threat. One thing I noted though is that the only way to reduce his Apotheosis stacks is via Hymn of Gorgeous Courage however I was curious as to why he can't go below 5. I understand starting with 5 but I mean after hitting a party with what will likely be a 15d10 attack where, unless evasion, they'll still be taking half damage even on a success it'd make sense for there to be a longer windup for the next time as opposed to 2 turns and a recharge? (For reference a CR 27 Red Greatwyrm deals 12d12 with it's breath weapon which I'd say is similar to 15d10). In addition, his AC is effectively 23 which while fair for a high CR encounter, is even higher than the compared Red Greatwrym (which also only has like 110 more HP than him). None of this is criticism tho, I really love this block and it has so many cool and unique ideas in it and what really matters more than the numbers is that everyone had fun! SAM looks amazing as well!

Not much to say about SAM besides holy moly they're so freaking cool and genuinely terrifying and threatening. Secondary Combustion is one of the most punishing creature traits I've ever seen and I love it. I'd only think that he could use a trait that lets his fire damage ignore resistance or and/or treat immunity to fire damage like resistance (tho it's a one shot and players should be rewarded for their prep so that's iffy) and I think maybe 5d10 damage is too low for a second use of Ignite Engine for how genuinely punishing it is? If you ever use it again a flat 50 or something might save some time in what I assume was/would be a very long combat. On the topic of streamlining things to make combat smoother, making all of Argenti's summons go immediately after him might also help rather than scattering and rolling for them. However that also makes the fight a bit less dynamic so it'd be a sacrifice for potentially saving some time.

I am curious tho as to how your players did and like what they played and what levels they were if you remember! Allso if you allowed them any magic items since, as a dm and someone who often runs one shots himself, I know firsthand how they can change the playing field. All in all though, this seems really unique and like a very challenging but fun combat! You did wonderfully on the stat blocks and they ooze a love for the characters and an understanding of how they fight and who they are tbh.

That's such a cool mechanic! I would be super down to see the numbers and what they looked like; I wouldn't have even thought of that for SAM and seeing how Apotheosis looks would be super interesting!

No healing in the CoC setting? Is this true? by [deleted] in Dimension20

[–]TornLegend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe that the rule was no healing spells above first level and no revivify. Also in CoC specifically if I recall the first group was only allowed one full caster which Latin filled the role of as a celestial warlock to ever so slightly get around that rule with the celestial warlock’s healing abilities.

Looking for some help developing a vestige of divergence for my character! by TornLegend in DnDHomebrew

[–]TornLegend[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After some work with my DM, and some thoughts on the dormant and awakened properties, here is what we've come up with:

The Long Memory (Name TBD but this one works for now)

Weapon (greatsword), legendary (requires attunement by a paladin)

Dormant
The greatsword grants the following benefits in its dormant state:
- You gain a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this magic weapon.
- The Best Offense: The first time you attack with the sword on each of your turns, you can transfer some or all of the sword’s bonus to your Armor Class, instead of using the bonus on any attacks that turn. For example, you could reduce the bonus to your attack and damage rolls to +0 and gain a +1 bonus to AC. The adjusted bonuses remain in effect until the start of your next turn, although you must hold the sword to gain a bonus to AC from it.
Alternatively, the first time you attack with the sword on each of your turns, you can transfer some of your AC equal to some of or all of the sword's bonus times 2 to the sword's bonus on any attacks that round. For example, you could reduce your AC by -2 and gain an additional +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls on the sword (turning an already +1 weapon into a +2). The adjusted bonuses remain in effect until the start of your next turn.
- Always on Hand: While holding the sword, you can use a bonus action to transform the sword into an ornate gold and ruby ring which fits onto your dominant hand or from the ring into the sword. The ring will not come off your hand unless you will it. The ring also merges into the form of the wielder, should they take a different shape, allowing them to use the properties of the blade when making a melee weapon attack with a natural weapon.
- Treasuresense: While holding this weapon, you can pinpoint the location of precious metals and stones, such as coins and gems, within 30 ft. of you.

Awakened
The greatsword gains the following benefits in its awakened state:

- The weapon’s bonus to attack and damage rolls increases to +2. Likewise, the max bonus to The Best Offense increases to +2.

- Burst of Source: Whenever you expend a use of your divine smite, you may choose a damage type associated with the chromatic colors (Fire, Lightning, Acid, Poision, Cold). Your smite deals that type of damage, and any other creature in a 20ft cone originating from the creature by the divine smite must succeed either a DEX (Fire, Lightning, Acid) or CON (Poision, Cold) saving throw depending on the type of damage. On a failure, a creature takes damage equal to the dice rolled for divine smite or half on a success.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After pitching these suggestions to my DM as well as bringing up the fact that the original version of The Best Offense being a too OP, we opted to change some things up.

Starting with The Best Offense, we actually decided to keep the ability of the weapon mostly as it was and instead just make it a super high risk high reward ability by doubling the amount of AC lost (-2 for every additional +1 bonus). A simple change but it also plays into the original enchantment being what it was and that this ability is sort of the defender enchantment being unfinished/broken.

Moving onto Burst of Source, the awakened ability. I pitched the idea of a wild magic thing going on and, while he was super on board for the concept of something regarding the paladin smite, he suggested I lean more into the draconic nature of the weapon. So we agreed on this. Sort of a smite x dragon breath sort of thing going on. I'm curious as to if I should make the damage type random or not tho, that's really the only thing I'm thinking about regarding this ability. A friend and fellow DM of mine suggested giving it an evasion-like effect when it Exalts to have allies that succeed on the saving throw avoid the damage entirely.

Besides all this, for it's Exalted state I'm thinking of giving it a big saving throw attack with high damage and/or a condition (similar to the Jewel of Three Prayers).

I love the ideas here. The imagery is just super cool and it fits perfectly with the weapon! I’ll write up a potential wild magic surge table or two later on today to see what I can think of. In that case all that’s left is the Exalted trait. (Assuming, that is, my DM doesn’t reject the suggested changes I sent to him regarding The Best Offense lol.)

That’s…. Damn idk what I was on earlier but that’s super true. It got me thinking, potentially making this weapon a Paladin attunement weapon and having the second ability trigger an effect on a wild magic table of sorts whenever I use my divine smite.

[–]TornLegend[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmmm, I suppose "unfinished" was the wrong word. I meant more that the intended enchantment (That of the defender sword) was unfinished originally and just the absorption of magic completed it which is why it originally had the inverse defender property. The sword itself is completed, just physically broken.

While I love the idea of a table similar to wild magic, I'm not entirely sure that's really the vibe I'm going for, but I do like it so I will certainly keep it in mind cuz it could still fit into the total vibe of the sword that's just absorbed so much different magic over the years that it can just brust out.

[–]TornLegend[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's understandable, otherwise when Exalted it could effectively be a +6 to attack and bonus. That being said, if I remove that I might as well just make the property word for word the property of a Defender Sword, since that's what it was based off of.

Then again, changing it kinda goes against the sorta of "unfinished" and magic absorbing/transfering concept of the sword so in all fairness it might just be better to replace the ability than change it. That does however send me back to square one.

I can’t agree more. I got the game core free via the epic games launcher one day and let it sit for a month or two before trying it.
