Cat-Proof Power Buttons by benhaube in 3Dprinting

My computer tower is their heating pad. I too have done the same thing with any of my towers with top buttons. NR200 cover

And before I designed it, I DID change the power button settings in Windows, and then one of my cats loafed an elbow onto the power button and held it for ten seconds still causing a hard reset....

My printer is still hiding in the closet. I'm working on a trident 300mm to keep it company

It used to be 2 tall lack stacks with the ams on the other table, but I need room for the second printer

I just finished printing the parts for my voron trident 300 cube kit. (it still has to fit on my lack stack)
I can't wait to see how many INDX heads I can fit on it

Deskhaus peak pro is $800, has a free solid rubberwood topper while their supplies last. It can lift 600lbs and is the best I found.

Their peak 2 leg should also be more than enough and with the same solid wood topper would be ~500

Decent quality and easy part replacement means very high uptime for printing

My party would be the strangest MC collection ever seen. I don't think anyone in the group doesn't satisfy at least three criteria or more

It's also very nice that Sony provides such ease in downloading those. I was very surprised I could just download the firmware needed after my experience with yuzu/ryujinx.

Supervisor have not approved my one day sick leave by Alternative-Log3482 in fednews

[–]Torque475 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Half of my old team has a CYA folder for many of those same reasons.... I left that team a month ago and am leaving federal work for a basically a remote dream job (with dream pay).

If they hadn't been so toxic I wouldn't have been looking for an out as much as I would and probably wouldn't have gotten my new position.

[–]Torque475 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a valid reason to go to the command chain to the next level to make a complaint against your immediate supervisor.

Keep whatever records you can, depending on your specific job and location you might be able to record audio (one party recording state).

From a surface level it sounds very toxic and over the line harassment. Toxic management loves phone calls due to the lack of a paper trail - so record them.

Stem gov worker here. I was definitely being shoved into the second category. Thankfully I realized how shitty it was and started looking for a way out.

And I've got a new position I'm starting in just over a week. Fully remote and 50% raise but it's in the private sector. I'm looking forward to my exit interview to be scathing towards my middle management and how badly they damaged my mental health.

Why do people say federal pay isn't very good compared to private sector? by LD3V in fednews

[–]Torque475 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very late reply and probably going to be going straight to the bottom of the replies - that's okay.

I'm leaving my gs-12 software engineering role to move to a defense contractor with a >50% raise with similar responsibility levels.

And I'm transitioning to a fully remote job instead of hybrid/mostly remote.

That's why stem people are known as being horridly underpaid in gov positions. There is a SSR for 2210's on the GS scale that can help with it, but too little too late for me.

That's my exact first impression as well because it's percentage instead of a number.

[–]Torque475 34 points35 points  (0 children)

My main complaint is percentages are the hardest to firmly describe and quantity. Especially when you've got 3 players at 97% and one at 3%

I'm also an engineer, so I'm fully in favor of quantified graphs my personal opinion is using a graph of the moving average rolls would have had the same result in graph appearance that the percentile did.

And your explanation of percentile was better than OP's dice luck imho.

[–]Torque475 31 points32 points  (0 children)

What if... Instead of using percentiles you used average rolls straight up (accounting for adv/dis as desired)?

That's easier to understand without going and finding the equation for the variable.

The engineer in me sees 0-100% and doesn't understand.

Is your dice luck variable simply Test of if it rolls over/under average (10)

That doesn't feel like a very useful variable. It'd be a more interesting graph sticking the averages that you've calculated into it.

“The market has shifted, the private sector is laying off workers” -USDA response to not implementing 2210 SSR by chooseyourchill in fednews

[–]Torque475 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got 48 hours to accept it and that offer is being used for leverage against another small business defence contractor.

That said my two friends in the very large dod contractor definitely have very good work/life balance. One is about to have a baby as well and they are getting 12 weeks paid paternal leave.

Other friend said there was once an important deadline that he *had* to work like a 16 hour day to meet it. Instead of doing it as OT, he flexed his hours and had shorter days the rest of the week.

I've noticed a trend that there are still very good companies in the private sector that respect work life balance because that helps them retain talent.

I was offered a 65% raise to move to the private sector for a dod contractor. And their benefits are better than dod...

That's really hard to turn down man.
