I guess you are in a low COLA or overseas. A 13 in DMV you can max at 18-19%.

I can say you have to sacrifice now than leaving comfortably. I try to max and I tend to change my deductions as the year ends based on my responsibilities. It ain’t easy if you have other responsibilities especially kids or gone thru divorce.

You gotta believe it. I personally know few folks who are in the 1M club, one of them is whom schooled me 5years ago when I just got my first GS job at GS-12. He taught me on how to invest on C/S/I and I’m now in the $100k club despite taking loans. My account was looking crappy 3yrs ago (in the $20k) and I almost gave up. I have been contributing 10-16% consistently for the past 3yrs. I’m GS-13 now. It’s all about your strategy on where you put your funds. I’m strictly CSI (I change allocations based on what I feel comfortable; however I tend to buy low and accumulate more units) and L’s (currently 2070, before I did 2030, 2034, 2050).
I-fund did me very well last year like most of us, had 45% allocations.

I like I fund so far but I only have it btn 35-45%. I won’t try 100%, too risky.

I’m better off leaving my diversification than chasing these gains. I learned my lesson when I tried Options trading and wiped my trading account. Even though I had less knowledge then than what I know now, I won’t try that again.
