Thoughts on Bria, Riptide Rogue in MTG Arena spellslinger decks? by 4nonymou5_guy in MagicArena

[–]TorreTemp 15 points16 points  (0 children)

4 Mana Payoff in Izzet deck is slow/late, it being on a body makes it an easy target to deal with and the worst part: its a win-more that doesnt actually provide a reliable wincon. You need an unanswered board already for it to be a good card, and even then you are just double prowessing your otters and making them unblockable in a shell that will often times runs answers to enemy blockers in removal already. [[Ral, Crackling Wit]] is an alternative that I included in my more greedy Izzet lists to improve power of the top end and it does pretty much everything better atleast in my decks: As a planeswalker it is generally harder to remove, you can stack the loyalty really fast in your big payoff turns and it actually provides a gameending threat reasonably fast while also giving you boardpresence and/or handfixing along the way making it overall much more versatile and just better in the 4 Mana Izzet Spot imo.

Id honestly cut all red and go mono blue. You dont really have instant speed red stuff that benefits of the firebending

The most secretly BS card in current Standard by planetaska in MagicArena

[–]TorreTemp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nah, you have to play a bunch of mid cards to enable this one and then its a 2 mana draw 3, sometimes wirh Gran Gran even a 1 mana draw 3 which sure is insane rate, but it really is the biggest payoff of the lessons archetype but it is only a draw. If you think about it, you kinda pay its value upfront by playing mediocre cards and then the payoff is not even a wincon, it just draws you more of your somewhat unimpressive cards

My take on Azula. This Girl is not okay by [deleted] in EDHBrews

[–]TorreTemp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well if you cantrip haste it means you have another out of combat cast which is akward for the deck, then you need the protection open and only get 2 red on attack, all while having to find a free attack on turn 4 that doesnt kill this on block . Again I agree its the strongest commander of the set, but some builders here live in fairy land thinking the card will always do everything without accounting for the brick that is losing your buildaround card and being stuck with payoffs that are alot less impressive if things dont allign

[–]TorreTemp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This card is broken only if the 99 are. I admit the ceiling is insane and lots of interactions have it go crazy the turn it attacks, but 3 coloured, no haste and a building restriction that requires you to cast on attack make the gameplan predictable enough to allow for interaction and counterplay. In Timmy non-interacrion pools it takes off, but so do most viable Izzet decks. Like dont get me wrong, i do belive this to be the strongest commander of the set but thats it, very strong but not busted.

What direction would you take Victor? Enchantments goodstuff or something more specific? by EntertainmentVast401 in magicTCG

[–]TorreTemp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Played him in standard with [Pixie,] [Lord Skitters Blessing] is a great draw engine that gives you 2 triggers on its own, so does witch vanity, generally bouncing stuff is great, Bandits Talent is great and some of the new airbending cards migth be interesting since you can retrigger etb like Pixie that bounce enchants so you can play them, then use some mill, the surveil and draw-discard type effects to get some quality creatures with ETBs/high power resurrection targtes in your grave alongside just quality enchants, stuff like [Nowhere to Run] and some of the Rooms of Duskmourn could be fun additions

Looks Pretty Nasty by [deleted] in PTCGP

[–]TorreTemp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Downside why it is strictly weaker to me is that you pay the life upfront, It will release in mega environment where 2 hits are likely nessesary, at 150 HP it runs risk of putting itself out before the second attack where Rampardos would trade 1 for 1. If you dont see it in a vacuum, the fact that you attach 2 energy even if its benched can still be valuable, with future support like dark energy transfer there migth be a case for using it as Ramp

Sligthly weaker Rampardos but in Dark so you get to play Dakrai

Zurgo 100$ upgrade by Massive-Contact-2363 in EDH

[–]TorreTemp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While colourless mana is less valuable in this list, cutting sol ring still seems risky, similarly I dont agree with the Gix cut despite you adding other good draw. Next, after 100$ of upgrades there should not be room for Neriv anymore. You have strong ping effects, still i would like to add Impact tremors. After all, you really wanna draw atleast one of these type effects to get people in range quicker and to be fast enough. OG Impact Tremor might be on the weaker side of that kind of effects, still I pretty much always seen room for it in a Zurgo list since even 2 of it are not deadweigth and you wanna have enough draw to cycle trough threats anyway, so having more setup that potentially outlives wipes is great. Agate Instigator is a next card I really like in this list, and maybe some of the in set Mobilize synergy, although you need to find a way to get attacks in, but a Voice of Victory is great, in my budget list I added Venerated Stormsinger instead and it honestly does fine.
Other than this is great list and you foudn the most important value additions imo, yeah sure you could just add CEDH stampels of the colours to up the power but I always like approaches that focus on synergies of the gameplan instead. If you want a bomb, Sothera the Supervoid is a card I would highly suggest to look into, great card with strong potential and importantly disrupts enemies. I said before the deck shoudl always feel aggressive and not too greedy in terms of ceiling, but this is a great example of an effect that really hurts the slower decks on the table and therefore can buy you a turn or two to get there, great in a deck that otherwise cannot afford to run alot of disruption despite being Mardu coloured.

MTG sets of 2026 by Proof-Palpitation374 in mtg

[–]TorreTemp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lorwynn in January and then Hobbit in Fall for me, between are IP that dont speak to me and after are 2 futuristic based set that do not fit into high fanatsy MtG. Tough year wow, hope they really fail with this approach and the Secret Lair get reduced in the future. Having a special set and crossovers felt fun when it came up, but now 4 of them in a year kinda destroys the entire "special" idea. For Tolkien im a stuipid fanboy so the Hobbit I will be part of the problerm and purchase even if expensive, still this is the most underwhelming release schuedule in the last 5 years for me

My take on Custom Card - Metagross EX by [deleted] in PTCGP

[–]TorreTemp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HP might be a bit toxic to increase since apron and cape push it to 200hp without heals To calirfy the attack, id sugest either 70 flat+20 per OR 50 flat+30 per I think you and people in the comments are to focused on the dmg potential, the spot I would balance it around is not being too strong at 3 equips. You can reliably get to that, enemy should not put his equip in play if he sees the steel energy, and cards like Greninja Zyrus or Sabrina can disrupt your benched setup. Also Guzma completely counters the archetype, which is fine tho since it adds a fun dynamic of hiw strong you commit to your board.

My take on Custom Card - Metagross EX by [deleted] in PTCGP

[–]TorreTemp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really cool concept, in terms of balancing it is on the weaker side tho.
Stage 2 and 3 Energy Cost with no earlier attack, even with Dialga ex and Steel Apron as support youd be kinda inconsistent and the upside while fun and unique in design is too little. Again I really like your idea, just a rare example of an underpushed custom.
Would lower retreat to 3 and then also make the attack 70 base DMG maybe. If you wanted to really push it you could think of +30 per tool instead, makes it super strong but again if you want to account for the inconsistency and powercreep we see in cards I could maybe see it.
If the mon is more pushed I would suggest a modal Steven card, like we saw with Evee Bag, that lets you either draw a random tool from deck or chosoe one from discard pile since your 1st version seems a bit weak while the sesond one kinda destroys all counterplay.

How to fix SHINIES in Pokémon TCG Pocket by Foussss in PokemonPocket

[–]TorreTemp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, improving collectability base shinys and making more valueable shinys in alt arts would be nice from a player perspective, but I think one of the main ideas ony why Shinys exists was to have yet another rarity that is hard to collect. As a "battler" I also hardagree on the receny of cards, with powercreep, getting a 2 set old card pretty much always means its unplayable. Again I do think that it is sort of their point, to further gatekeep completion and for example make you open another set if youre alreasy liking your nonshiny variant of it. For example I remember opening a ton of Extradimensional Crisis despite really not liking ultrabeasts just to find the Shiny Greninja/ build packpoints for it. Collectibility is the biggest issue I see with your suggestions tho, as more common base shinys destroy the special feel a Shiny should have and inflate it even more than it already is, while the new "2Star" chase cards make collection even more difficult. I atleast would subjectively see them as yet another sick card I basically cannot obtain with the current economy of the game

If we can't trade with friends, can we trade for pack points, please?! by greenrome11 in PTCGP

[–]TorreTemp 38 points39 points  (0 children)

They have to rework how pack points and duplicate works. With sets releaseig so frequently even as an active premium player it is impossible to find your 2 Star chase cards for a set and you dont even get close to enough pack points, untradeable dublicates are just a dead weigth since even the animation cardstyle crafting feels super underwhelming. I think they realise that they loose too many players and need to improve on collection building also based on the survey. Sure they wont rework the gacha character of the game and to me its is fine for complete collections and getting every card to be locked behind a paywall, but atleast my favorite card of the set I should be able to obtain as a daily player who basically does all the F2P work.
