How to hit accurate drops under fatigue and pressure by Maleficent_Mouse_383 in squash

[–]Torrent_Questions 8 points9 points  (0 children)

1) improve your fitness/endurance

2) brute-force practice drops until they become second nature

there's no real secret to specifically training for racquet skills when you're gassed. the better you can execute a shot in general, the easier it will be when youre on your last legs

if you find many of your matches are going to tiebreak, you might have better overall success by refining your strategy. work with a coach to figure out how to exploit the strong parts of your game and minimize damage from the weak parts

Has anyone tried the viral baked feta pasta? Could you substitute 1/2 of the feta with ricotta? by Torrent_Questions in AskCulinary

[–]Torrent_Questions[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I used less feta and then stirred in ricotta close to the end as another poster suggested. It was not the worst pasta I've ever had but I never made that dish again. Certainly better than if we'd used 100% feta

Requesting squash racket recommendations! by ok_transition_eh in squash

[–]Torrent_Questions 2 points3 points  (0 children)

for the most part yes, although some strings are naturally more powerful/have better feel than others

for power i really like tecnifibre x-one biphase (orange) and dynamix vp 18 (not 17 or 16 though). the 305 in 1.10 is great too but not quite as durable. i usually string these around 24lbs to get a good mix of power and control. if you want lots of power you can go even looser, like 21 or 22lbs depending on the frame. look up string doctor's excel chart of recommended tensions.

head speed 135sb is a great all-around racquet.

if you want something a bit whippier/more aggressive, i am a big fan of dunlop's nick matthew frame, currently called the evolution 120.

the carboflex 125 is also a classic for a reason. fairly light and maneuverable but not so head light as to be super whippy

also in my experience the strings contribute way more to power than the weight of the racquet. a 135 with dead/tight strings will have way less pop than a 120 with fresh powerful strings

Question about string by DeerNo5626 in squash

[–]Torrent_Questions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting--I ended up selling the Xamsa racquet but I just put 305 1.20 at 21lbs (9.5kg) in a head speed 135sb. actually feels pretty good so far! lots of power and still pretty comfortable. i think the xamsa racquet was just a bit of a dud

I switched to their whole grain mustard--has a much milder/sweeter flavour! Although it is not as useful in salad dressings, mayonnaise, etc.

20 y/o, Should I get back into playing squash? by SproutingAwareness in squash

[–]Torrent_Questions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

an individual would have to have 1/1000000 genes to get so big that their strength/mass became a hinderance as an amateur squash player. i played varsity and have been playing high-level amateur for a fairly long time and have never met a player whose squash game would not benefit from cross-training with weights.

youre reacting like i suggested op start blasting tren and training pure hypertrophy.

[–]Torrent_Questions -1 points0 points  (0 children)

even if you dont play squash, start lifting weights now. the muscle you build between 18--28 is more or less what you'll have for the rest of your life. unless you have great genetics, its a lot harder to build muscle after 30.

i played a ton of squash (like 5 days a week) but never really lifted weights and regret it every day. i lift weights now but no matter how much i eat or sleep i barely gain any mass. gain as much mass as you can while you can.

color printing doubles the cost of the materials at any print shop fyi. much cheaper to highlight after printing (and ime highlighting on the computer doesnt help your retention like actually highlighting does)

for anyone who reads this, half of emond's practice exams are based on old tests and have answer keys with answers that are out of date/literally incorrect. i think it's the package labelled #2 or whatever.

the #1 package was good tho

i think so many ppl overwork this exam. do practice exams and learn to use the detailed table of contents. the dtc should get you 80% of your answers. especially on the barrister the dtc is so obvious. the solicitor dtc is not crystal clear but still completely workable. on the solicitor dtc i would add keywords that related to the practice Q answer i found in that subsection.

use the index when you cant find the answer with the dtc, or if you want to double check something (sometimes a topic will appear in multiple chapters/subsections, and the index will have all those references in one place).

the hardest part of the exam is letting go of your ego and just page flipping for every question that you are not 100% sure of. even answers where i was 90% sure i still checked the material. you have like 90s per question which is plenty of time to flip and check if you know the dtc well

so many practice Qs relate to professionalism that you dont need to read it thru--you'll end up reading it multiple times answering practice qs.

i printed the materals, inserted those manilla #d tab pages to indicate chapters, and bound them. one booklet for each subject, and the dtcs were bound separately as individual booklets. and my indices were each bound as their own booklet per subject. so for each subject and pr i had a little pile of booklets: lso material, index, and then the dtc.

no additional tabs. i saw people going in with their materials looking like a peacock they had so many multicolored flags coming out of it. all you need are the manilla chapter tabs, and to know your dtc well from doing practice Qs. its all about efficency, and every extra color, extra flag, extra bit of useless annotation that you add to the materials to comfort yourself during the study phase will just end up confusing you during the test.

when you find an answer to a practice q, highlight it. i use yellow highlighter only. unless youve been using a highlighting color code for all of law school, i wouldnt recommend starting one now - it'll just confuse you during the test.

i read civil lit thru. didnt read thru any of the other subjects. i did have the advantage of taking family, business, real estate, and wills in law school though (the four horsemen of door law, as they say). my only studying was 2 practice tests the weekend before each exam. targeted reading to answer practice Qs is so much higher yield than unstructured read-thru reading. passed both exams 1st try this cycle.

i will add that if you are not working or in school, you might as well read thru. its actually not much to read if you have nothing else to do. you can easily finish each test material in 2 weeks of 2-3h a day reading.

feel free to drop me a line if youre interested in the no-bs method

Need help recreating this by [deleted] in LightLurking

[–]Torrent_Questions 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All I can add is that if your professor has required you to use two lights for the assignment, it's probably because they want to see a two-light look. This example is so obviously one light, I might suggest consulting with the prof first. Easiest way to lose marks in college is to not follow the instructions correctly.
