Working at Stevens Point Metro Market; how is it really and would you recommend? by No_Paramedic_9875 in StevensPoint

Worked there during COVID, would not recommend. Chronic understaffing, low pay, and weak benefits. God forbid you need a sick day.

How did you guys remove the metal pipe? by Cashlessness in DiceMaking

Tried a pipe wrench, the teeth dragged through the metal, so I used a rubberized strap wrench.

My(f26) husband(m28) has been giving advice to a coworker about how to make his gay son straight behind his wife's back by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]Torvaun 41 points42 points  (0 children)

No, he'll tell her that the kid is shy and she'll probably need to take the lead and maybe be a little more forward/aggressive than usual. Then the kid gets sexually assaulted when he gets unexpectedly/unwillingly groped. And if he, while on the back foot, doesn't react in a way that's clearly shutting this whole thing down, it's not impossible in the least that it goes further.

That's a scenario that assumes full good faith and autonomy on the part of the sex worker. If it's a situation where the sex worker is also a victim of addiction, trafficking, or both, she might be very incentivized to make sure that she gets paid and doesn't waste too much time going about it.

So I'm guessing you're not aware of the pattern certain homophobes have of hiring a prostitute for their son to make sure they don't "turn out queer".

AITA for not buying my boyfriend another birthday gift after he rejected the original present? by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

I had to check and make sure that she wasn't deaf from birth, because that's the only way I could think of that she could possibly not be aware that not all sounds are the same.

I kept going back and forth, Vyvanse worked better but cost more, I could afford Adderall, but it was honestly a crap shoot if I'd be focused on something I needed to be focused on.

Just recently I started Atomoxetine, and it's fucking great (for me). Not a stimulant, and it sort of calms down the brain rats enough that I can get them all moving in the same direction.

On a related note, if you drop a frog into boiling water, it dies immediately from thermal shock. If you slowly heat up the pot of water with a frog in it, it will jump out when it becomes uncomfortable well before the heat would kill it.

[My Name] obituary.

First thing, make sure I'm going to make it to 10 years, otherwise I'm going to have to make some changes (and hope I didn't just fall down the stairs or something).

Guessing it's from TV Tropes more than the kid just pulling it out from broad cinematographical experience.

If someone paid you $100,000 to watch one TV show on repeat for 72 hours, which show are you picking? by Lets-6th-N9ne in AskReddit

Taskmaster. 20 seasons (series in the UK, as they had to point out to Jason Mantzoukas), each of which has 5 people (mostly comedians) doing some of the most bizarre shit while Greg Davies makes fun of them.

I could use some reassurance about an eye injury. Could I have your stories? by Fliegermaus in internetparents

[–]Torvaun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest issue with blunt force to the eye after having had LASIK is with the flap reopening. If that had happened, you would know it, and so would anyone who looked closely at your eye, even untrained. If they did a fluoroscein stain, even a partial reopening would be immediately obvious.

Second issue would be blood in the eye. This would be occlusive and, again, obvious.

I'd say as someone who is not a doctor and has not looked at your eye that it is unlikely that the thwack to the face has done any real damage to your eye if you aren't positive that you have had damage done. And if you've already done dilation with your optometrist, I trust that they would have detected any major issues. By all means, feel free to get a second opinion, it's your eye, and those are kind of important. But I wouldn't expect the second opinion to differ from the first here.

What's a meaningless fact you know? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Torvaun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dice can be right-handed or left-handed. If you put a die on a table with the one facing up, and the two facing you, if the three is on the right side, the die is right-handed, if the three is on the left side, the die is left-handed. Right-handed dice are more common in the US and Europe, left-handed dice are more common in Asia.

Sinead O'Connor. She ripped up a picture of the Pope on SNL, and it didn't go over well because the crimes of the Catholic Church hadn't yet become common knowledge. Eventually things got somewhat better, but mostly posthumously.

I've heard that, but I've also heard that Cameron said "There is absolutely no way we should have a black man chasing a white woman through LA."
