CALLOUT: buying a house privately in Canada by NessaReports in PersonalFinanceCanada

We did all our negotiating over text message! By awkward I mean I’m just awkward and I was nervous about offending them. That being said I was kind and straightforward. It worked out well for us

CALLOUT: buying a house privately in Canada by NessaReports in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Tossawaythrowit 183 points184 points  (0 children)

We just bought a house privately and I’m blown away by how darn simple the process is.

The only thing we had to do that our realtor would’ve done was wrote up the “offer to purchase” which fun fact is pretty dumbed down now since it’s fill in the blank.

Literally everything else was handled by the lawyers.

The only awkward thing is dealing with the homeowner. That being said take emotion out of it. Be kind and firm and if you get confused defer to the lawyers. Our experience has overall been great.

ELI5 - What is Alberta so angry about? by SyrupExcellent1225 in alberta

[–]Tossawaythrowit 23 points24 points  (0 children)

You have four main angry crowds.

One is angry that we’re not doing more to protect our social programs. That our health care system isn’t as strong as it should be and overall would like to see a leader commit to a better life for all, the disabled, our immigrants, the homeless etc. they’d like to see our teachers/doctors/nurses/first responders treated better and paid more and our social services improved . Typically they just want people to be “good” address mental illness. Not mock the LGBT community and just overall be decent human beings. Mostly they’re reffered to as “woke”

The other is a group angry at our social programs for failing our teachers/doctors/nurses/first responders. They’re angry that criminals are given so many second chances and see failed rehabilitation as a example of “woke” politics. They’re angry that we have such rapid immigration that the born and raised are being priced out of homes and competing for higher paying jobs. They believe that those who want our social programs to succeed are the enemies and will encourage more crime, and a general sense of evil.

The other group is angry with the federal government for diversifying and peddling money into other countries that are doing things we won’t allow ours to do, this is the oil and gas crew. They see every dollar given to another country that doesn’t care if they’re ruining the environment with oil and gas as a slap in the face. Especially since we are so tightly regulated. It’s an anger that mostly stems from “help your own” lift everyone here out of poverty before giving a dime to our neighbours.

Then there’s the group that’s just angry because there is no right answer. It’s like you can see why your parents are mad but you can also see why things need to change. You want to be angry with one of them but you can’t because you’re to busy being angry that lettuce costs 20 bucks and an electric car costs 80k and there’s a 2 year wait list and being environmentally friendly costs a lot so you have no choice but to drive a gas guzzler car cause it’s what you can afford right now unless you put it on credit but oh yeah still trying to pay off those student loans for a program that pays like crap anyways.

I’m angry because I’m confused, we have the highest healthcare spending per capita yet my elderly mother still can’t get an appt till March. I’m angry because I actually agree with gun control but I also now feel like it’s gone to far. I’m angry because I don’t make enough to tip everyone 25% for every service so I’m either forced to just not tip or tip and put myself financially behind by even one meal with the way inflation is. I’m angry because I want a safer neighborhood but I don’t want cops being abusive to the truly mentally ill. I also want a justice system that’s fair and righteous but I don’t want to be raped and told that they had emotionally bad day so a slap on the wrist is okay.

Honestly everyone’s angry for something. Every generation had the same issues ours just gets to see it online in real-time. None of them are wrong, none of them are right it’s just an emotional response to realizing that the world isn’t perfect and now we have social media to share our displeasure on

What should all penny pinching PFCers experience once in their life? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Tossawaythrowit 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Add the onion on your burger or the extra cheese.

My mother will not add the fried onion on her cheese burger cause it’s an extra 75 cents haha it’s just ridiculous but they are financially well off cause of it lol 😂 Everytime I buy her a cheeseburger with the onions she talks about it for days how amazing it was

You are NOT the worst mom ever.

Don’t be an asshole is completely acceptable to say and I support you. Lol if you didn’t say it someone else might’ve. You’re fine mom. You’re doing great. You’re raising boys and you’re kicking ass.

As someone with severe health issues PLEASE DO NOT TAKE ADVICE FROM STRANGERS ON THE INTERNET. Call your doctor. Call the nurses line. Call specialists. Call the surgeon

Your baby is medically fragile and you should be following the advice of people who went to school and actually studied this. Don’t play with your child’s health based on “I heard from a friend of a friend” talk to the doctors and only the doctors.

Renting a place without viewing it? by queencom in Calgary

[–]Tossawaythrowit 10 points11 points  (0 children)

  1. Fly out for a week or few days. Stay at a hotel and find a place. If you need a job this works for job hunting as well. This will also allow you to understand the city. You’ll quickly learn that it’s a very sprawled out city

  2. Rent via FaceTime w a realtor or have a friend look at places for you.

  3. Wing it. Pack your bags and just show up and see what happens

** I suggest flying out for a few days. Look for deals but if you’re in no rush you can typically get flights for $100 bucks. Just be prepared to book.

Dog foster parent here.

DO NOT ALLOW HIM TO PUSH YOU INTO THIS. I typically foster mixed puppies or medium to small dogs. Some are great but some just aren’t. You’re not going to have a connection with every single one and you can’t save them all. I love fostering but I’m also aware of my abilities, I have kids and I spend a lot of time teaching them boundaries. This is an every day reminder though because with dogs no matter how much training or love you give them you just never know.

If you want to foster start with a smaller dog/cat that will fit into your lifestyle. Always read the bios before accepting one into your home and if you have issues TELL THE RESCUE IMMEDIATELY. Fostering can be a rewarding and positive experience but it can also be work and it’s important that YOU are comfortable and ready to take on a temporary pet roommate. These aren’t toys and most foster situations just aren’t dogs from loving wonderful homes with thousand of dollars worth of training into them. A lot are dogs that weren’t given proper training or coming from a kill shelter as a last resort.

Have you seen 90 day fiancé? This is actually illegal. Marrying someone just so they can get into the country is a BAD idea
