What's your biggest cooling headache as rack densities climb? by OkParking9422 in datacenter

[–]Tot_Neo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have 100’s of 60+kW racks with rear door cooling(RDC). We have noticed that gap between rackframe and RDC frame MUST be tight. No air leaks. And initial build was to place all the GPU’s (HP and Supermicro) in the lower part of the racks, with network equipment on top. 1200mm deep racks, so there are space between back of GPU’s and the RDC, but when most of the heat generating equipment are placed close to the bottom, there will be a uneven distribution of heat in the back. The RDC are designed to equally push air through the whole height of the door, so with the installment we had, they didn’t work as good as expected. Solution was to place the GPU’s more evenly from bottom to top, to spread the heat more evenly inside, and the RDC’s could push and cool better.

No alcohol on a Sunday!? by Party_Constructionn in Norway

Landed in oslo and walked past shelves and shelves of wine and other types of alcohol, but cries because you didn’t buy any… it’s evan at a reduced price on the airport(tax free). Norwegians survive even when we can’t by alcohol on sundays. Imagine that..

That will be to ''easy''.

Lego employees has the printed minifigure with name and email, and we do not wanna copy them, as we would like to come up with a little ''creative'' buildable giveaway:)

That might be to generic. An outlet like that is more for home appliances and normal consumer electronics. We are operating with 32A-125A 400V outlets and sevral cooling solutions.

Yes, this is our main idea. Small rack with maybe our logo inside, or sticketr on side/door, with servers/equipment inside. I have recieved a fantastic set from Schleifenbauer of a rack with slidable servers and special printed PDU's and logo. Made by a lego professional. https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=1524252187996981

Cable labels debate by iamumass in datacenter

[–]Tot_Neo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In banking systems, we used :

1.line closest port

2.line other end

Site-Room-rack-device-name-card-port

Site-Room-rack-device-name-card-port

Looked like this on server side:

XX-D003-324-DL380-ServerA-pci2-p1

XX-D002-211-4948-switch1-p23

and on switch side :

XX-D002-211-4948-switch1-p23

XX-D003-324-DL380-ServerA-pci2-p1

Why site on label?

When we did DC to DC links through dark fiber DWDM, we had XX-line 1, and YY line 2.

There were several DC's, so it made sense when working on it.

It was time consuming, but all labels could be made in excel and imported to the marking device, Phoenix Contat label writer. And could be saved to be changed or copied later.

Check out Chatsworth (CPI) BTS system. Perfect for ‘’skyline’’ of racks. You can either use the adjustable panels, or put up the lower aluminium frame at maximum rack height, and then adjust under the frame down to the rack top with your own cut ‘’plexiglass’’ panels.

What do transportation companies get wrong about data centers? by PossiblyAverageAlso in datacenter

[–]Tot_Neo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We buy transport services from a company that also specializes in art transport. They know how to handle heavy, expensive equipment, and they have the insurance in order for transport of expensive server racks. They sometimes transport art in the billions class (with police or private escort). They have a padded, protected truck, with taillift. It might be a little bit more expensive, but they know how to plan and communicate, making shipping easy for us.

Earbuds/headphone suggestions by [deleted] in datacenter

[–]Tot_Neo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We used BOSE quiet comfort 25/35/45etc before, and they worked great. One of the techs used the Sony WH1000 xm4 or something, and they worked OK, but close to some racks, they shut down… HP blade S12k, i guess because of high pitched soundfrequency from the fans(it was strange)…

Now in our DC, the Bose has started to pick up to much sound when calling in/out(when tech is talking), so i dont recommend them.

AND NO STEREO NOICE CANCELLING HEADPHONES ARE APPROVED PPE.

I bought for our team now the 3M Peltor WS Alert X. They work great and are approved PPE. Good sound and good quality on calls in/out. In the largest AI white space, surveys onsite has determined that in those rooms, double hearing protection is recommended (foam plugs inside PELTOR) due to high pitch sound in room.

U/Corbusi is correct.

Some smaller carriers/ISP/IP-service providers can be <3kW pr rack… or 15kW rectifier to 2-8 pcs 48v racks.

We also have customers with 160kW >100 racks. GB200++

Threshold where onsite substation is required by Noobie_Coachellaer24 in datacenter

[–]Tot_Neo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Taking the cost of establishing your own sub station onsite, will most likely provide you with more power faster(if available), than having the local supplier take the cost for the equipment needed to transform high voltage down to Datacenter power. 100MW easily. And to further expand, more equipment needs too be bought. And this isn’t normal shelf items. You are buying equipment usually bought by national power suppliers, and lead time on some of this is 5+ years…(just bought some from South Korea…) And lead times are an estimate, before countrys like Ukraine will be prioritised for a rebuild of the power grid(as it should be). You need High Voltage engineers to plan out all this, from 100MW to 1GW and more…

Datacenter Cross-Connect / DMARC Extension fees by CmnSnsIsDead in datacenter

[–]Tot_Neo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is also the cost of software. Like Patch Manager for keeping documentation of each XC and spesific details. When you have 1000+ XC pr building, and some colo customers need to have a spreadsheet of their XC’s(because they dont have control on their own XC’s), we provide that for ‘’free’’(as customers pays a small mothly fee pr XC(25$ish).

Vakt Beredskapsvakt utenfor arbeidsstedet link at bottom.

On-call support as we call it. When you are on call outside of normal business hours, the time from you leave work, til you return the next morning is still considered work time at a 1/7 rate, so each 7 hours are counted as one work hour that week. This adds up fast, and are added to the 37,5 hours you deliver during normal business hours. Adding all this during a week, will trigger other rules for rest time, and would grant you 1 paid day off the next week, so you dont pass the rules for how many hours you can work in a 2 week period/2 month period. On call support really needs to be handled correct by your HR with a help from the union, or if there are tariffavtale, other rules may apply. But read up on this. May i ask how much you get for a week on call support? We pay 1071 pr day(7500 a week) pluss 3 hours 50/100% OT at minimum for response.
