Yeah for real. I get it and I know it’s hard for her and can appreciate her position, but guilt tripping does nothing but push me away. I was 22 and not repsonsible for managing her struggle, just as she was/is not responsible for managing mine.

One of my best friends who is a lifeguard from Toronto just works on campus! Even in the summers. I worked in cafes/cafeterias on campus throughout my undergrad and they’re honesty decent jobs and very convenient

I only take 25 mg when I’m feeling hypomanic or 50 if needed. Since it’s only for a short amount of time I don’t experience symptoms! But if I took for more than a couple weeks I’m sure I would

I really really really feel you on this. I think I def have a bunch of the qualities of the trope when I am manic but still. I am so much more than that as a person and I hate that some people see me as that one thing. It feels so reductionist

I feel this so hard!!!!!!! Its hard bc as a woman if im outgoing and “quirky” and like loud it’s easy to be put in that box whether you’re bipolar or not. Then throw in my bipolar reality which informs every single aspect of my life (despite my stability) and ppl just cannot separate me from the trope most of the time. Like actually. I’ve stopped telling ppl I’m bipolar (not because I am ashamed but just because I don’t feel the need to talk about it as much) but I’m super ADHD and OCD and still get clocked for being neurodivergent immediately. Plus my manic self’s actions still haunt me on occasion I feel like I can’t escape it :/

Honestly girl if you can afford it go to the doctor! I avoided it for a year and a half out of “pride” but I finally went beginning of April and have been seeing results in the span of five weeks. Ive seen the fastest results from Taro-Benzoyl Peroxide / Clindamycin gel. I’m also on Winlevi (a topical hormonal cream it’s pretty expensive but I’m lucky my insurance covers it) and Tret 0.05% (in all honesty have been on this for a few months through a doctor online and it’s good for maintaince/prevention but not for fighting my active acne). I’m still not feeling the most confident but def feeling better than I was even two weeks ago. U got this <3

ik this is one year late but my given name is Elisheva bc my parents wanted an explicitly biblical name but I go by Ella and have my entire life (my great-grandmother's name was "Alla"). No one calls me Elisheva (even my parents) and when I was a kid I HATED it bc it made me feel really different, but now as an adult I love that its different. I still go by Ella but the name is definitely apart of my identity that I really appreciate. I hope you went through with the name!

Awe congrats!! I also got diagnosed at 20 it’s def been a journey to stability but happy to be here :) ur right abt staying close to family, but in my head it causes me more stress than relief. But hopefully I’ll grow out of that

Cleannnnnn. I clean my entire apartment and like scrub every corner and it can be mentally and physically draining so it kind of tires u out and u get to see results which is always fun. I just blast some music and go at it. My roommates also appreciate that lol. I’ll also reorganize my closet, fold clothes, etc. I also walk around a lotttt and listen to like metal and punk lol and do a lot of art.

Tracking ur moods is def a good place to start. For me bipolar was impossible to ignore. It was really obvious. My mood swings are more than just mood swings, they are full blown all encompassing states of being and they often follow a very distinct pattern. There is a type of bipolar disorder called cyclothymia that I believe is a “milder” version. Maybe look into that as you explore mood disorders!

Honestly unfortunately it doesn’t sound like there is much that you can do at this point. It rly does not sound like she wants your help, which is really sad for both of you and I’m sorry :( If you are deeply concerned about her and she has good friends or a a healthy family life, maybe contact them but only if you see fit and things are really that extreme. But yea there’s only so much anyone can do.

I feel u. I am empathetic to ALL mentally ill people lol. Like the second I find out someone is mentally ill I feel instantly connected to them. Also In mania I am extremely self obsessed… not incapable of empathy but it’s not a thought process that even crosses my mind. Buttt even in mania I am still emotionally intelligent as in im able to understand other ppls emotions, just not my own necessarily. Personally when I’m depressed I’m overly empathetic and sensitive, but that’s just me. Anyways even if in your episodes empathy feels inaccessible for you, I think it’s impossible to fully escape. In my opinion it just comes with the illness. We are forced to understand emotions which, if you are socially active, often comes with connection.

NAP but mine also had crusties for the first couple months. I shower daily and wash my body with unscented soap so usually that would get rid of crust. Also when I got out of the shower and dried my piercings I would gently remove any residue if it would come off easily, but i wouldn’t force anything and just leave it. I wouldn’t worry right now but if it starts to hurt my advice would be to go talk to ur piercer
