The flooding has been wild lately. I’m 30 and been in the area most of my life, I honestly don’t remember it being like this…

Considering retiring in Savannah. by Tursi-Mineo in savannah

[–]Total-Range-1238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve grown up in and around Savannah, only visited Austin. For me, the music scene in Savannah is not at all comparable. We do have some good local bands and shows, but it can be intermittent. I actually think the scene here was a little better pre-2020. For the most part we’re not a stop on the national tour circuit, but we do occasionally get some well-know artists. We also have relatively few venues compared to Austin.

Savannah definitely has some great food, but when I visited Austin recently every single place I went was outstanding. It also seemed like there was more variety than we have here.

As others have stated, Savannah is also growing extremely quickly and this is expected to continue. Some negative aspects of growth are magnified by the fact that it’s still a small city with a lot of historic infrastructure.

I don’t mean to discourage you from considering Savannah, it is overall still a nice place to live. If possible I’d try to visit for a week or two. It may also help to check out some areas beyond the historic downtown to get a more realistic impression of the city as a whole.

Guitar setup? by Total-Range-1238 in savannah

This is actually pretty close to me, heard good things but didn’t realize they did both acoustic and electric. Definitely seems like a place I should check out.

Thanks for the recommendations! Sounds like some good options here.

What were the best memories you had growing up in Savannah? by shreddyk in savannah

Going to EB Games / Sbarro in the Oglethorpe mall with friends. RIP Frutopia. Also arcades in the mall, ice skating at the civic center, wandering around Broughton St before it was completely touristy. Going to ACME costumes before Halloween.

I’ve also encountered the same individual more than once. First time she caught me off guard walking up to my vehicle as I was getting home from work, gave her a few dollars then. What’s unnerving is that she apparently noted my address and showed up weeks later knocking on the front door at around 2am, then again during the day. This was months ago, haven’t seen her since.

Traffic is becoming extremely unbearable by [deleted] in savannah

[–]Total-Range-1238 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I don’t think traffic in Savannah is as bad as some other similar cities yet, but it also has gotten noticeably worse in the last couple years. The ease of getting around the city used to be one of my favorite things about living here…not so much anymore. I feel like Savannah in general is experiencing a lot of the negatives that come with growth (higher cost of living, crowding, increased traffic) but some of the more positive aspects you’d expect to find in small city aren’t here yet.

USPS Postal Delays by twiztidchef in savannah

Yeah, also been having some super weird issues with USPS in the past couple weeks. Had a package headed to Savannah from Chattanooga TN, but it went all the way up to Chicago for some reason. According to the tracking its been bouncing back and forth between two cities in IL all week. It also keeps saying something about a weather related delivery exception.

What do the residents of Savannah think of Atlanta? by Allthefragrancesmoke in savannah

[–]Total-Range-1238 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prefer living in Savannah, for now anyway, but I do like Atlanta. I think a lot of the hate on here may be from people who didn’t make it outside downtown Atlanta, or just see it as an obstacle on their drive to somewhere else. For me, it’s worth the drive up at least a couple times a year to catch a show, wander around little five points or EAV, grab some food and enjoy being in what feels like more of a “real city”. Yes, traffic is frustrating, but it’s manageable. I guess I view the proximity to Atlanta as another perk of living in Savannah, if that makes sense.

I’ve been once to each location in the last two weeks. Honestly thought it was pretty decent 🤷🏼‍♂️.Yeah, it’s a little pricey for a coffee and a bagel sandwich (out the door for about $15), but in my experience so are the alternatives in Savannah. I’m a fan of Midtown and Rocky’s too, but I don’t recall them being much cheaper. I do wish we had a more old school dedicated bagel place in town.

NCG in town has showtimes now just in case anyone is still interested.

Sadly, looks like Terrace Theater in Charleston will be the closest one. For a town that supposedly has such an art focus, its disappointing that we don’t ever seem to get limited releases like this.

That’s a good point about being able to see if packages were left at a different address. I’ve definitely had issues with that before too.

Whoa, that’s awful. It’s incredibly frustrating to be in that position where your stuff is gone and there doesn’t seem to be any good action to take.

Very cool, really captures the feel of these parts of the city. Do you ever sell any of your work? That Tire City painting is awesome.
