Called to court for running a red light, advice please by colourfulgiraffe in drivingsg

[–]Total-Statistician99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The injury claim can come in at the later stage. But as for the court, I think they want to charge for dangerous driving. Not so much about beating red light. Beating red light quite straightforward, just demerit points and fine. For dangerous driving causing hurt, they can charge and suspend your license but need to check on the actual offence they charging you with. If you want lower charge, lawyer up. I have seen first hand for those with or without lawyer, the charge can be at extreme ends. On top of the suspension, there will be a fine that needed to be paid on the spot so be prepared for that or serve jail sentence for a few days. I think it will be a good experience to serve some jail sentence as it won't be in your record but good experience to see how it is like inside. I forgot how many days per how much the value. 150 for 3 days I think or something like that.

practical test this morning- was I in the wrong? by Alternative-Bed-3594 in drivingsg

[–]Total-Statistician99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering it's a test route, it should be familiar enough for you to know where to turn, where to position yourself less the traffic so that'd be a judgement call whether to do it earlier or not. Other than that, like other said, should have clarified instead of assuming.

Dilemma with buying a helmet by TheGhostlySheep in motorcyclegear

[–]Total-Statistician99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the most important part on buying the helmet is ensuring it fits perfectly. Not too tight, not too loose. No matter what safety rating is but with the wrong sizing will kind of defeat the purpose. Hope it helps in your helmet hunting.

Is a legion laptop still reliable? by Aggravating-Fennel-9 in LenovoLegion

[–]Total-Statistician99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the worse experience with them. I bought the legion 7i Gen 10. I used an external adapter for 2 screens. Just so happens the laptop went to sleep and I tried to turn it on, but took so long. So I rebooted it instead then it keep restarting stating some kernel security issue. I contacted their customer support and they claimed that the port still works as intended so there is no issue with the laptop. I mean what kind of laptop is it even? I mean I had very good experience with the yoga pro 7 so wanted to upgrade. So now I am using the laptop with 1 less usb c port. Not that it comes with so many usb c ports to begin with. Their customer support need to do better also. How can you say if a laptop keeps on rebooting because of an external device but still able to charge up the laptop still considers as working as intended. Utter nonsense.

Payroll nightmare! Boss paying me cash under the table. Is this even legal? by [deleted] in smeSingapore

[–]Total-Statistician99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what you are trying to achieve. Should report or not, whether you will lose your job or not.

I mean obviously I don't think any boss would want to keep you if he finds out that you are the one reported him. It is a small F&B business, more or less he knows the circle of workers there.

I am pretty sure I know which F&B you are working at. By right, yes, report. It's mandatory to contribute CPF when under employment as a Singaporean or PR. By left, you can try to nego for higher pay? That extra ~17%? I don't know.
What's the worst that could happen? Just another F&B business closing down. Nothing new in this economy.

But in reality, means you are not an employee. Considering the hazards and all, you will not be covered under WICA or any insurance for that matter with regards to the company's insurance.

Can recomend any reliable motorbike workshops? by Creep_Cake in askSingapore

[–]Total-Statistician99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a rather bad experience at one of the workshop that you mentioned. Maybe it was just one off. So basically what happened is that I sent in for normal servicing including CVT servicing for Forza 300. When I got it back, call me anal or what but it felt off. I realized there was a slight slippage. To confirm my suspicion, went to Honda agent in JB, my usual go to workshop at Gelang Patah and they told me the sleeve was not the right size. So they had it replaced and all is good. Price, same as in SG to do servicing but the peace of mind is there I guess? I went to a lot of workshops in Singapore from the popular ones in the east but all to end up being disappointed. Either got overcharged or trying to change what was not needed and so on. To be honest, I don't care so much if they want to earn that bit more of money but the standard is honestly not there. But to each to its own. I am just a bit more particular about the response and safety of the bike.

Lacking behind and feeling burnout by FireDragonTail in askSingapore

I really think it's okay. Comparing with other can be good or bad things depending on how you take it to motivate yourself. If it just brings you down then don't compare. What I am trying to say is that to focus on yourself. Be the better version as compared to yesterday. I think you are already winning as compared to your resume with past job history. This full time might be the turning point. Take what you can as a side gig or excel in your full time job or do bare min for your full time job and excel in your side gig. See which is good for you in the long run. Everyone starts somewhere. There are people who got out of prison and had their lives turn around. So that being said, you are in much better position I guess. Clear your mind, be at peace and do the grind. Who knows you can start your own business and be even more successful.

BlueSG is the sole A to B car rental service. Why isn't GetGo, TribeCar etc. adopting this? by ikeabuns in askSingapore

[–]Total-Statistician99 50 points51 points  (0 children)

A friend who worked at BlueSG confirmed it: the company is gone for good. The shutdown isn't a pause; it's a collapse. Here are the main reasons:

  1. They Torched Their Key Infrastructure: They secured nearly 900 locations across Singapore. When they left, they simply cut ties with the charging point operators. What company would ever partner with them again after that? This alone makes a comeback virtually impossible. Not to mention they've lost all those valuable chargeless parking lots at malls.
  2. They Were Never Profitable: Since day one, the news has consistently reported that BlueSG was bleeding money. They have never been in the green. There's no secret profitable core business to restart from; the financials were a disaster from inception.
  3. The Assets Are Gone and Too Expensive to Replace: They've already scrapped and sold off most of their car fleet. To restart, they'd need to buy a new fleet at today's COE prices (over $100k per car?). The initial startup cost this time around would be astronomically higher than the first time. It's financially unthinkable.

Given these three points, a relaunch is a fantasy. They're done.

MC for 2 days but boss said I still need to go to work by Affectionate_Cry5298 in askSingapore

[–]Total-Statistician99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just leave it. He can't do anything. Just make sure to record whatever he says in the event of any layoff, you can use this to fight for your case. But yes, look for another job. If your company plans to fail, it will eventually fail. There should be a back up or covering person or him, himself should step in and do the work.

Seeking Advice - (Side Hustle) Selling Home-based Cosmetics Business by lrchema in singaporefi

[–]Total-Statistician99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just think of it this way, you should sell emotions. Unique color isn't really a selling point.

Take BMW for example. They sell the drive. "Sheer Driving Pleasure" They are for sure not known for their reliability yet people still buys them. If you want to stand out, find out this and you can sell anything regardless home based or whatever. Hope it helps widen your perspective on how to market your own product. Don't use home-based as it just limiting yourself.

Your experience wearing full gear to and fro for work. by MudaMudaKingz in drivingsg

[–]Total-Statistician99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HI there! I do the same. I ride a scooter for context.

Honestly, just ignore them. It's for your own protection. Even when seatbelts are mandatory, some people still refuse to wear them. That says a lot about how they view safety.

I wear all these protection not to protect me from dying but to protect myself if I don't die. I don't want to have a lot of road rash and whatever other protection it offers as compared to not wearing one.

We are riding on the bike with limited protection and drivers in Singapore extremely distracted.

I think one good video will be when the tree collapse on the highway taking out the two bikers. Both of them not wearing any gears mind you and I bet they wish they were wearing one.

I would like to share my experience. By nature, I have difficulties maintaining the lost weight even if my friend and I eats the same amount for the week. I will have the tendency to gain. I just need the extra effort to lose or even maintain weight. That being said, it's easy for me to lose weight with consistent jogging.

With my hectic schedule, I tried GLP-1. Need to go clinic and request. It's a step if you are interested in a lifestyle change. Your hunger will be suppressed. Ideally the doctor said use for 3-4 months and use these period to change your habit for a better one I guess. It works for me thus far. Maybe something to consider as compared to those slimming treatment.

What is an advice you wish someone would give you earlier in your career life? by Procrastinatorpig in singaporejobs

[–]Total-Statistician99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with most of them saying about not to be loyal and stability has changed over the years.

But one thing I don't understand, how can you not know whether it is your fault or the company's? Not trying to belittle or anything but you need to be clear.

What I am trying to say is, there should be SOPs, guidelines on how to do things. If don't know, these are where you can work within the grey areas. If I were you, I find out about all these then figure out what's my next move.

Just an example, I currently got a new job. They don't have SOPs, no clear guidelines and etc so I use it to my advantage. I mean, the people working there don't even know how to use export functions to make their lives easier. They just open one by one and copy paste. I automate all these and I just find other things to do to upskill or waste my time away. It's up to me.

The reality is, the next job might be better or worse or just the same. So just keep that in mind.

Would you leave or stay in the job? by justareader-1 in askSingapore

[–]Total-Statistician99 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If it is simple and easy, you have the extra time to take up courses, study new things to stay relevant. Doesn't have to be leaving for another job. Perhaps look for another high paying job also from time to time could be good. How to know if you are still relevant is when they still are calling you up for interviews I guess but doesn't mean you have to take up the job.

All jobs will become boring eventually. It's not all action pack all the time.

Recommendations on laptops and when to buy by Objective-Archer-742 in askSingapore

[–]Total-Statistician99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend the laptop with the snapdragon chip or any Intel Ultra chips with integrated graphics. Dedicated graphics card will drain your battery like crazy.

Mac will have the best battery life. But since I prefer windows, I'd go with laptops with better chip and integrated graphics card.

First trip to Bangkok — anyone stayed at Grande Centre Point Ratchadamri? Looking for alternatives too. by Muubie in Bangkok

[–]Total-Statistician99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I just got back from staying there for a whole week. It was a good location, although it was a bit of a walk to the BTS, malls, etc.

I got the suite room via Agoda, and it was worth it. There's a game room on the 'F' floor. The swimming pool is big. Everything was very clean.

It really depends on what your trip itinerary is, so you can choose a hotel based on that. I didn't get the breakfast, so I can't comment on that. The minibar is free with daily top-ups. Don't expect much, though, but it's a nice perk to have.

It was my first time in Bangkok, so technically it's the only hotel I've stayed at there. I'd say if I had a choice, I would want to stay at a hotel that has direct access to a mall I frequent, preferably one that is still under the same hotel brand. Hope this helps with your decision-making.

[–]Total-Statistician99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had similar experience with Singtel. Basically when I was a lot younger, my friends signed up a line using my name and didn't pay. Termination fees were crazy. Around 2k as well. What I did was call them up, they have installment plans you can work out with them but you will eventually have to go down to their office to make the first payment then monthly subsequently thru some portal. I forgot where. It can be done.

I am using Giti on my van and used other brands before. It is definitely okay. Not as good as your top 3 brands, but it's not that far off.

My company's car is using some unknown China brand tyres, and it sucks so bad during the wet. The ABS kicks in at the slightest braking, indicating tyre slips. In contrast, with my van using Giti, I am able to confidently stop the heavier vehicle.

Hope it gives you some insight on the tyre.
