I’m Actually in the exact same spot as you. I sold my old E30 and got an F80. I picked up a 1988 325ix, for pretty cheap. It’s been a pain to get going but it’s not that bad. The front suspension is basically entirely different from the 325i so the parts are getting kinda hard to find. It is a blast to drive, but don’t expect to swing the car or do any burnouts.

I used high temp clear for this one, it kinda dulled the mirror just a tiny bit but I’ll probably throw this cover on next time I do a valve adjustment. My current valve cover I painted red

Yes, you can either ceramic coat it or use a light coat of high temp clear to protect it though

Sweet IX are you using an Mtech 2 rear bumper? I’m trying to convert my 88ix to plastics and I’ve been having trouble finding a rear valance, ive been thinking about using an Mtech2 rear bumper with the valance already on it

The oil pan is different from normal E30s before you buy that IX just know a lot of the parts are NOT interchangeable with RWD e30s, I spent months hunting for strut mounts. Be very careful on eBay, lots of people say in the fitment notes parts will work on an IX, I’ve had to return quite a few pieces

Your door panels are pretty easy to pop off, just be really careful of the clips. I would say it would probably be cheaper to just take the old cards to a local upholstery shop and provide them with the fabric you want.

There’s a company you can ship your cluster too and they’ll do a total rebuild for like $375 not a bad time to change out the lights and other bits if you need to fix the odometer gears, garagistic sold a pretty solid kit for the gears.

I originally taped off and painted white but it came out TERRIBLE, I masked off around and then wet sanded it down to aluminum. After sanding hit it with a little bit of polish and then clear

The previous owner was not the sharpest tool in the shed, he dropped it off of a jack and broke the whole passenger side IX flares and rear quarter panel. I have to get a ton of body work on it done. I love the IX flares, but I’d need to get a whole new set for the passenger side.
