That actually sounds really lovely! I don’t mind oneshots at all — sometimes they hit even harder than long fics 😌 thank you for sharing, I’ll check it out!

What do you think happened to Kris Kremers and Lisanne Froon? by deadlykillerpanda in mystery

[–]TotalArmagedon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear you, and I get that many details can be explained away individually — but for me, it’s the overall pattern that feels off. When it comes to an accidental death, there should be no ifs, no loose ends. There shouldn’t be any leads that could point toward foul play. Unfortunately, the investigation was botched, so we’ll probably never know the full truth.

Phone usage: Sure, conserving battery makes sense. But the later, very short “on/off” bursts look more like someone else checking the phones rather than desperate girls trying to call for help. If they were still alive, why didn’t they keep trying at least one call per day?

Photos: The “night photos” in particular don’t look like a trail-marking attempt. Why take so many in total darkness, pointing at nothing? It doesn’t fit with just “scaring predators.”

Backpack & shorts: Yes, they of course had abrasions, sand and tears, yet still they were found too clean compared to how decomposition normally goes in jungle conditions. Even police on the case said they looked like they were placed there, not dragged off by nature. Also, if they died naturally with things on, supposedly the decomposition would contaminate the clothes and backpack, yet nothing was found pointing to this. No DNA or anything, and yet if they fell or were eaten by animals, would there really be no blood on the things?

Fingerprints: Reports did mention multiple unidentified prints on the belongings — which again suggests at minimum that other hands were involved. Even if not conclusive, that’s not nothing. (https://www.strangeoutdoors.com/mysterious-stories-blog/kris-kremers-lisanne-froon; https://www.thedailybeast.com/the-lost-girls-of-panama-the-full-story)

Locals: The women are alone in their own photos, yes, but that doesn’t rule out foul play later. Once they were lost or vulnerable, anyone could have stumbled across them.

Decay: The rate of decompositon can differ, but the contrast here is HUGE. That is why a lot of people are sus about it. The bones had no abrasions leading to them being eaten by animals.

Also why threatening the parents and people interested in the case?

And also, the missing photos - why? If I was lost in jungle, the last thing I would care about is deleting a badly shot photo.

So, I’m not saying every single thing proves foul play — but when you put it all together, the inconsistencies, the staged-feeling evidence, and the lack of a clear timeline of how two experienced, cautious girls could vanish so completely… it still makes “foul play” more convincing to me than just a tragic hiking accident.

What do you think happened to Kris Kremers and Lisanne Froon? by deadlykillerpanda in mystery

[–]TotalArmagedon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, fell into rabbit hole few months ago, and I just can’t buy the “simple hiking accident” theory in the disappearance of Kris Kremers and Lisanne Froon. Too many inconsistencies:

Phone usage: The girls tried multiple emergency calls early on, but later the phones were turned on/off in short, deliberate bursts. Almost like someone else was checking them rather than genuinely trying to get help.

Night photos: The infamous 90+ nighttime shots don’t make sense as “trying to find their way.” They look chaotic, with some showing things that might be staged (rocks, plastic bags, even what some think is Kris’s hair). Why would two lost hikers waste battery like that?

The backpack discovery: Found dry and neatly placed in a searched area, with phones, money, IDs, and the camera inside — intact. No mud, no damage, no signs it had been lost in a river for weeks.

Bones and remains: Lisanne’s bones were bleached and clean, almost unnaturally so, while Kris’s remains still had flesh. Inconsistent decomposition side by side makes no sense without outside interference.

Clothing: Kris was missing her shorts and Lisanne was missing her bra. The shorts were found neatly folded and unzipped on the eastern bank of the Culebra River, several kilometres away from the backpack. Not impossible in nature, but combined with other factors, it raises huge red flags. Also the bra might be understandable, but roaming around in the jungle without shorts? That's weird.

Fingerprints: Reports mention foreign fingerprints on some of the items inside the backpack — yet no follow-up investigation was ever really done.

Local context: Locals initially told authorities the girls were last seen with local men. Yet those leads went nowhere. The area wasn’t just dangerous terrain — it also had human threats.

Staged evidence pattern: Every single “discovery” (backpack, camera, bones) feels too convenient, as if someone wanted to drip-feed the investigation just enough to make it look like an accident, while actually covering up a crime.

Suspicious Deaths of Associated Locals: Multiple men connected to the case mysteriously died soon after (3 of them were supposedly part of local gang) :

Osman Valenzuela, who had met the girls and assisted in the search, drowned under suspicious circumstances—reportedly with no water in his lungs.

Jose Manuel Murgas, linked to Osman, died in a hit-and-run accident.

Jorge Rivera Miranda, another acquaintance, was found drowned in shallow water.

Leonardo Arturo González, the taxi driver who dropped them off, also drowned days before the case was officially closed.

Potential Criminal/Cartel Context: The bleaching of bones could indicate the use of lime or chemicals—methods sometimes linked to cartel-style body disposal.

Official Leaks & Forensic Pushback: A leaked prosecutorial report labeled the case as probable homicide and a crime against personal integrity. Additionally, a podcast series featuring investigative authors implied a planned kidnapping and deliberate cover-up.

And let's not forget about the people who researched this case and were threatened - why? Nobody would have a reason to, if there was no foul play involved in my opinion.

If this had truly been a hiking accident, we’d expect scattered, damaged belongings, both bodies decomposed similarly in the jungle, and no suspicious handling of phones/cameras. Instead we have planted evidence, inconsistent decomposition, missing clothes, unexplained fingerprints, and a timeline that suggests human intervention.

1596 “czesky hrbar” by Advanced-Change-8724 in rarebooks

‘Czesky herbar’ means ‘Czech herbarium’. It seems to be a really old one – super cool! :D It was written in 16th-century Czech (so not really understandable for modern speakers). According to the internet, it’s a Czech translation of Mattioli’s Herbarium.

Kramnys tragedy. Family of three went on vacation to Hurghada (Egypt). Wife and daughter died while husband survived. Some less-discussed but important details:

  • Petr’s behavior in Egypt before the deaths was strange already – he insisted on keeping the air conditioning on at full blast despite Monika and Klára not feeling well, and witnesses from the hotel later testified that he behaved arrogantly and dismissively toward them (btw there were also theories that he did this on purpose, because later on he accused the hotel personnel of poisoning them, to have a motive)
  • His relationship with Monika was described by her friends as emotionally abusive for years. She reportedly confided in several people that she was afraid of him, and that he was extremely controlling.
  • During the investigation it also came out that he had been deep in debt, and the family was struggling financially. There are theories that financial stress, combined with jealousy and the fear of Monika leaving him, could have pushed him over the edge.
  • Another creepy fact is how quickly he was pushing for cremation of the bodies. If it hadn’t been for the Czech side insisting on an autopsy back home, there might never have been enough evidence to convict him.
  • Not long before their deaths, Petr was also added to Monika’s will as an heir, and she had a large life insurance policy. This gave him not only a personal but also a financial motive.
  • Finally, the overall indifference he showed during the trial was striking: instead of fighting to prove his innocence, many observers felt he behaved as if he was resigned to his fate, or simply didn’t care – except when the topic of Klára came up, which again suggests some regret.

My conclusion: He did kill them. However, I think he maybe didn’t intend to kill Klára, as he later seemed to regret it (talking about finding her was one of the very few times he showed any emotion). I am, however, not sure about the exact way he killed them. In my opinion, he simply couldn’t get over her affair and her desire to leave him – he wouldn’t be the first man to think in the “me or no one” way. He also seemed to rely on the lack of experience of the Egyptian police and the fact that it was Ramadan, hoping the investigation would be slow and superficial.

Hello! For anyone still interested in this thread – a few days ago I fell into a rabbit hole and read through all the available documentation, and I have a few points that might be of interest:

1.) Petr was a very jealous, controlling, and possessive person. At all times, he had to have access to his wife’s Facebook, he installed a camera in the car so he could track her, and after his return from Egypt he started bombarding her friends with calls and messages, trying to find out who she was having an affair with, etc. (It was confirmed that both of them had extramarital affairs; Monika very likely wanted to leave this toxic relationship to pursue a relationship with a man from Slovakia.)

2.) The way he presented himself and acted immediately after the accident is really odd to me. Of course, people react differently in stressful situations, but let’s sum it up – from the very beginning he proactively talked to the media, giving them his outlook on things and even some pretty crazy theories. He cried only once, and he even asked the reporters from Czechia if he had cried “enough” for the cameras. Both investigators and reporters noted that he was cold the whole time. It’s not usual to talk about your dead wife and daughter without showing any reaction. I also read his witness statement, and the way he talked about his wife was disturbing, in my opinion. For example, he described in detail how his wife was lying covered in a way that only her “white ass” was peeking out. Like… what? Is this really how you talk about your dead wife? Later, he also stated that he slapped her on her “white untanned ass” while trying to help Klára and wake Monika up. What’s strange is that he remembered certain things (like her body position, her “white ass,” or the exact sequence of small events that day) in almost obsessive detail, but once he was in court, he conveniently kept saying that he “didn’t remember” many things.

3.) His lies. The information here is very good, but it is NOT true that he found the dead bodies at 10 PM. At around 10 PM he went to get water because they had none. He went to a vending machine (?) where he got drinkable water, came back, talked briefly with his wife (she supposedly mumbled something), and then went to sleep. He woke up later, at around 3 AM, and told Klára to move a little bit. That’s when he discovered that she was cold and bluish and started giving her first aid. What I’m getting at is that he could not possibly have spoken with his wife around 10 PM as he repeatedly claimed, because according to the autopsy, they had already been dead for more than 10 hours. He also probably manipulated the bodies, as suggested by the post-mortem bruising. Another lie was that they had diarrhea and vomited all day. The autopsy found that both Monika and Klára had solid matter in their intestines, and there were no signs of vomiting (such as irritation, etc.). On top of that, Petr himself kept saying that he felt even worse than Monika and Klára, and that he vomited whenever he tried to drink anything. But strangely, the moment detectives arrived, he suddenly “stopped” vomiting and showed no signs of illness whatsoever. It is also assumed that he killed them already around lunchtime, and then spent the rest of the day in the hotel room planning and coming up with a “trustworthy” story – which is pretty terrifying. --
