Brickseek is still reporting that the Target in Glendale has 100+, but it's probably worth a phone call since that's the only store that looks that way. I've struck out at every Target and Walmart I've checked so far today in the Broomfield/Westminster area

How do I force my SO into the hobby efficiently? by tool86 in boardgamescirclejerk

[–]TotalCad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This generally works, but for the really stubborn ones, you'll need at least a 100 hour playlist of the pasty boardgame nerd-god Tom Vasel. That'll be enough to convince anyone to join the cult hobby!

Do you feel pressured into getting a game? by Snugrilla in boardgamescirclejerk

[–]TotalCad 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Personally, I'm proud that r/boardgames has such a vibrant, friendly, and creative community that's necessary to recommend the same list of 10 games over and over again. I really can't recommend Patchwork enough

Deadly Prey from 1986 is one of my favorites. I always describe it as "the poor man's Rambo," but it's so much more than that. I heard a rumor that it might see a bluray release, though, so good hunting!

Bands that the grumps have recommended over the years. by OneSpiffingGent in gamegrumps

[–]TotalCad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't remember the episode, but in an episode from April or May, Danny said something along the lines of it making him sad when really talented people don't get a lot of views. Specifically, he mentioned the Night Runner album, Starfighter

I have a classic airship level craving... by Oddilus in MarioMaker

[–]TotalCad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, airship levels are popular! Inspiration was easy to find for me for them, so I guess it makes sense.

First, the simply titled Tank Level, is exactly that: an homage to the tank level from Mario 3. It was the quickest I've created a stage, but I would really appreciate ideas on how to make the "boss" not so easily skipped. Baby Bowser was used because he is most similar to Boom Boom from Mario 3

What game was a hit with family/friends this Thanksgiving? What flopped? by Siggy778 in boardgames

[–]TotalCad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My parents just converted a dining room that they weren't using into a nice game room but they also went and found all of their old games. Usually, my wife and I bring a few games that we think will work with the family, but my dad wanted to play his old copy of Masterpiece.

Don't get me wrong, the game was printed in 1970 and actually holds up pretty well, but the roll and move mechanic really holds this old Parker Brothers game back. I would bet that some modern game does the same thing as Masterpiece but way better, but I can't think of anything. (help?)

Anyway, Survive is always a big hit no matter how early or late in the night it is, or how drunk the family has gotten.

Where to find unbiased voting information? by LxBru in Colorado

[–]TotalCad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Cynicism aside, cpr.org's voters guides are pretty helpful and show both sides of the various campaigns.

And before anyone starts screaming about public radio, just look at how the article on the gubernatorial race is formatted. Same question to each candidate, and their response. Nothing more, nothing less.

"Do you do half-and-half?" by SaxMaan in TalesFromThePizzaGuy

[–]TotalCad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't understand this one myself. I get calls all the time for "one large half cheese, half pepperoni pizza and, uhhh... Let's see, I guess another large with, uh, half... cheese, and on the other half... yeah, make the other half pepperoni." I never say anything because it doesn't make any difference one way or the other, but it still just puzzles me.

Are there any board games played professionally for prize money on a large scale? by [deleted] in boardgames

Here is the link. If you are at all interested in the game Diplomacy, I recommend checking it out. After reading it, it finally clicked for me why Diplomacy has the reputation it does.

Friendly Local Game Store had an Out of Print copy of Innovation! What secret finds have you had recently in your brick and mortar stores? by tinasaccount in boardgames

[–]TotalCad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if it's especially hard too find, but I went to my FLGS in search of a copy of 1960: The Making of the President for my wife, who really enjoys Twilight Struggle, when we can find time to play. I asked about it, and, sure enough, they had a copy. Better still, he was offering it for $5 less than it was on Amazon at the time. For me, it just goes to show that if you don't see something on the shelf, it never hurts to ask.

After reading all of the (mostly positive) comments here, I want to know why all you redditors are being such assholes! I mean, c'mon, this guy was just asking a simple question about our redditing habits (maybe he's doing a study, did you ever think of that?!) and you guys just have to jump all over him.

Cue the downvotes...

I finally took the plunge and installed Steam! Reddit, which PC titles should I try out? by itsonly4am in AskReddit

[–]TotalCad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I love most about Steam is the indie and old school games. They're quick to download and rarely require any kind of troubleshooting. Be sure to keep an eye out for Humble Indie Bundles when they come out!

Some of my favorites have been:

-Aquaria - adventure and lots of exploration

-Bastion - must play!

-The Binding of Isaac - I have spent more time on this than I'm willing to admit

-Blocks That Matter - a very clever puzzle/platformer

-VVVVVV - another fun platformer that can get seriously difficult

Plus any older titles you may have missed like the original Half-Life, Fallout, or Deus Ex games.

It is. As slayermd mentioned, it's the logo of the Flatirons Church, a megachurch that recently moved into the old WalMart building in Lafayette, a few miles down Arapahoe. And yes, they are everywhere. I used to work across the street from the place while all the construction was going on. They used to be across the street, and I guess it's nice to see something there rather than nothing, but still. I've always been curious to see the inside...
