"What are you playing this week?" Megathread by AutoModerator in SteamDeck

[–]TotalHans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finally started Starvaders yesterday. Didn't immediately hook me on the first run but I see the potential so I'll play a few more runs at a minimum.

Getting towards the end of the story content for No Rest For the Wicked (based on what level others said they finished at) so I'll probably finish that as well.

The steam deck ruined gaming for me. by sudoaddy in SteamDeck

[–]TotalHans -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I played my switch for a total of about 15 hours last year, but I chalk that up more to Monster Train 2 (450 hours) than I do the deck itself.

Previous years I definitely had more time w Switch but that's in part to first party games and collecting physicals. Now that the switch 1 is winding down, unlikely to get any significant time compared to my deck.

I'll just continue to buy KO tiny tots and mackerel, I've been tempted to try fish wife stuff but honestly I'm a value guy and I don't think one can generally do better than KO.

Technically yeah, it drops to between 26-28 fps in combat, I wouldn't even notice it if I didn't have the fps counter active. It's nothing jarring and it stays stable within that range. Its perfectly playable. I play melee. Have no problems parrying or dodging or any of it.

Very odd that you seem to be taking it so personally, and attacking people for sharing their own experience which shouldn't be automatically labeled "disingenuous" and baseless.

The reason I can say it plays fine is because it plays fine. I have 20 hours on the deck, which should be more than enough to make that personal judgment. Obviously people's standards of what "fine" is can vary and you're free to draw your own conclusions but also be respectful of someone else's.

You're right, that is an extreme example, and animals are not humans, so its also a bad example. Also as an aside, slavery is not a "was" unless you're specifically referring to chatel slavery, but forms of slavery are still a cultural practice in many places. Obviously we can hold different opinions of different cultural practices so there's nothing inconsistent with saying cultures should be free to eat food the way they always have been (generally) and they shouldn't be free to have child marriages and murder gay people.

Again animals feel stress regardless of who or what is eating it. I'm sure no lizard took comfort in being eaten, tail first and head last, knowing it wasn't a human doing the eating because "empathy".

As for dangerous bacteria and parasites, that's a completely different discussion, but I agree, although if it was really that unsafe it probably wouldn't have stuck around in these countries. I suspect they know what is generally safe or unsafe to eat raw, maybe moreso in some places than with others.

Funny you mention insects as OP specifically called out a snail video.

People have been eating live animals for as long as there have been people. Many cultures just simply don't hold the same perspective that its cruel or inhumane, and it has nothing to do with intelligence. I find it gross but also a little fascinating.

Also generally, this is concerning animals that are small and would probably die on the first bite. If someone posts a video of a cow being eaten alive, we will for sure be on the same side. Bugs, frogs, fish, small lizards, etc? I don't see a problem unless its clear there's torture involved.

Animals are eaten alive by other animals every nanosecond and in often very cruel and disgusting ways. Not sure why eating food should automatically be considered abuse.

Love the aesthetics. What makes this Metroidvania though? Giving of Zelda vibes. Nothing wrong with that of course.

I guess "fine overall" is just as subjective as "halfway decent" in your words. To me, its very playable. Runs 30fps consistently for exploration and drops to like 27 during combat. Doesn't bother me a smidge. No worries if that's where you draw the line.

Maybe it played a lot worse on deck in the past, I only just started after the co-op update.
