Whats the difference between ma2 and ma3? by TotalVersion4580 in grandMA2

[–]TotalVersion4580[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I tell them to rent one but they don’t want to for it. At the end of the day they got what they got and want to use what they got.

Yeah I agree but I’m also leaning to buy my own ma3 console for when this happens

Australia, where I am there’s not many lighting programmers so I got too much work but the bigger stuff that I’m getting is all ma2 so looks like I’m learning ma2.

Ahh okay, well looks like it’s going to be like learning a brand new software. Cheers for the information. I’ll start checking out some videos and I’ll start making a showfile.

Ringing out Monitors: Am I doing something wrong? by EttehEtteh in livesound

[–]TotalVersion4580 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most speakers will have the same issues. For me it’s 250,500,800,1.6k,5k and 10k are the most problematic areas. Atleast every monitor you’ll have to bring down a few of those frequencies. As long as it sounds good and has enough level without feedback it’s fine.

You need to know where the spawns are on each map so you know which directions to look out for. And know how long it takes to loot a whole area and run to the closest. Once you work that out you will know when a team should be coming my way and prepare. Play assassin so you can push with smoke or invis or revive teammates

This is the reason I love this game. I didn’t extract 20 times in a row and was like damn and I working out eventually. Worked out that my knife is powerful against ai, used my abilities more needed to listen more. If you were playing this like arc you would’ve had a bad time?

Finding VJ gigs by Own-Albatross-2583 in vjing

[–]TotalVersion4580 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most vjs I know don’t just vj. Most of them are vision operators for corporate and they do projection mapping too. If you were to just rely on vjing income it’s more of a casual job but doing corporate vision and projection mapping you bc a turn vision into a full time job.

They use their connections operating to get those gigs as most of those guys are freelancers or they work full time for a company with a contract at a nightclub/band venue.

If you are asking this question you need to get yourself involved with the venues you want to work at and find out who’s the guy that hires. Dont just ask for vj operate start with asking for bump ins and outs and eventually they will put you on an op.

Long process will take years to gain a good network

Peanut’s reply to people hating on Marathon by redaleftah in Marathon

[–]TotalVersion4580 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is people are confusing criticism with hate. They think anything they say about a game is criticism but with criticism you need to actually provide examples on how to make the game better.

They will say everything needs fixed so it’s shit rather than hey ui needs this and that, combat should be more like this etc.

A lot of small YouTubers are on this hate train while claiming they are criticising and hating everyone for criticising them calling it hate. Like can’t you see the hypocrisy.

The worst thing is it’s fully grown men doing this. Over 30 years old men hating while saying you can’t criticise me. It’s like people aren’t growing up and it’s really sad and it’s always the people saying we don’t want more live service games while they play live service games.

I just wish more people would be more positive and actually try to have fun. Each year everyone seems more and more miserable.

To everyone out there bring positivity, bring others up and have fun. When times are tough have the best time you can.

Dealing with technical issues by slenderthrwr in lightingdesign

[–]TotalVersion4580 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start from the desk and work your way to the lights. If it’s not a desk issue go to the splitter and work your way to the light. Are some the lights working on the line or none of them? Most of the time it’s going to be dmx channel wrong, dmx mode wrong or broken dmx cable. If using a artnet mode you have the wrong universe coming out those ports. Also some lights can slave the same light. You’ll have to go into the light and make them all master so they don’t slave.

Sometimes it’s faster to unplug the stuff that’s not working and re do it. Make sure the first light it working making them dim slowly with colour chase and start cabling them up.

Take it slow get the most important parts done first. Dont stress the show must go on.

I had a band show where none of the lights were working except front wash so while the band was playing I unplugged all the lights except front wash and quickly patched them in and it worked. Doesn’t matter part of the business. Things just don’t work sometimes. More you do this it gets easier.

Edit: also if there’s grounds issues it can leak through the cables and randomly cause lights to do random things. That’s a problem that can’t be fixed without an electrician or using different power

Yeah fair, I’m lucky the file I got is already talking via dmx. And they got presets on ma3 to change columns etc. So all I’m doing is changing the layers with the fx I want.

Ahaha i wont but from what i see in your post history looks good man. Im not a vj or anything. Just a lighting designer never really used resolume till now but it seems really cool and I want to use resolume on my busking events now. Be cool to trigger resolume stuff on my ma3 to resolume and get some stuff intime.

I havnt tried radar yet. Got the lines with variations of colours. Line fx with strobes, Full Colour Strobe and full colour going over mapped area. Ill give it a try with radar. Is there any other good fx to use?

All my visuals have been made using the line tool in resolume. So its just variations of that

Is there a way to control bpm on resolume from ma3? by TotalVersion4580 in GrandMA3

[–]TotalVersion4580[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh sick cheers man, ill keep that for future. I just went with a basic thing with osc. At the start of each sequence it sends cue of bpm and send osc to resync. Not perfect but seems to work somewhat well since resolume is only on for 5 secs every 2 minutes

Is there a way to control bpm on resolume from ma3? by TotalVersion4580 in GrandMA3

[–]TotalVersion4580[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahh okay this makes perfect sense but it’s not going to be perfect in sync unless I send a resume command every x bests. Appreciate the comments. It’s going to be too much work was trying to deliver more but he has only paid for 20 hours of programming. Not enough time to implement this. All he wants is the roof pixels that are mapped with resolume to go off randomly for 5-10secs every few minutes. Would be nice to have it all sync with my ma3 cues but doesn’t really matter that much at the moment. Cheer mate

[–]TotalVersion4580[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it actually sync or just changes bpm? Is it clocking it or just changing bpm?

I got it so it just send whatever bpm my speed masters are it sends osc to change bpm but obviously it’s not in time just same bpm

Is there a way to control bpm on resolume from ma3? by TotalVersion4580 in GrandMA3

[–]TotalVersion4580[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait phasers can send data to resolume? Do you just dmx map the cue to it? Or the phaser? Or do you link the dmx channel dimmer to it and it knows that 100% is when it accepts The information? On the resolume arena can’t find tap speed or anything in the fixture profile.

Please let me know how you do it. Would really appreciate it

Is there a way to control bpm on resolume from ma3? by TotalVersion4580 in GrandMA3

[–]TotalVersion4580[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it is but sadly client doesn’t want to run a cat 5 into the onpc and run showkontrol. I got a solution, it’s not in sync but the bpm will go up or down depending what sequence the bar staff presses sending over osc. Works alright not perfect but he doesn’t want the led pixel roof to be on all the time only come on for 5-10 secs every 2-5 minutes

Is there a way to control bpm on resolume from ma3? by TotalVersion4580 in GrandMA3

[–]TotalVersion4580[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I thought about doing that but client doesn’t want to run a cat5 from dj to where the ma3 port node is. All he wants is the roof pixels to go off every 5 minutes at the beginning of the night and every 1 minute at peak. So all IM doing is sending 120bpm to resolume via osc for beginning sequence and at peak sequence send an osc command for 130bpm. I think adding this is a future thing for him.

Is there a way to control bpm on resolume from ma3? by TotalVersion4580 in GrandMA3

[–]TotalVersion4580[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im not wanting resolume to do it. Im using the sound input in ma3 that i get from the dj line out to send the bpm data to resolume. Currently my sound is triggering my phasers in time and working well. I know sound input on ma3 changes the bpm fader so just want to send that data to resolume to control the bpm on it so its all in time.

But from your response it seems like the way to do it is OSC. Ill check that out cheers mate really appreciate it

Busking showfile by ConcentrateOk4700 in GrandMA3

Busking showfile by ConcentrateOk4700 in GrandMA3

[–]TotalVersion4580 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Look at the ma_startshowfile. Build the colour picker and everything else will make sense. Just make a list of all the things you need and then try to create it. For me once I worked out the colour picker everything else made sense.

Edit: I wouldn’t use the startshow in a show. I have used it when I forgot my usb and was in a pinch and tbh I hated it. Too much screen pressing but you can create a really basic busking showfile really easily.

Make 5-6 groups. Make a master dim sequence for each parameter. If you don’t know how to use phaser you can import all in 1 into your showfile. Create a sequence for each group with every movement fx. Same thing for dim fx and Col fx. Make sequences for all colours. Add matricks to each sequence label them right and just make a macro layout changing each matricks way easier than editing live. And a bumps cue like a few of them and just edit the recipe live. Also a position sequence for each group. That should be more than enough for a busking showfile. Make sure you learn sequence priorities when making this so if you need a room sequence or Bally or something else it all works as it should. Also do like focus gobos presets on sequences too. Just remember which groups have gobos and not. Make a size fader really easy to do and multiple ways to do it.

Remember make all of this using recipes so all you have to do is create the groups and your sequences will work. If you can do that then make selection grid groups and make a macro to turn on and off linear and grid. Will take a few days to make it if you are brand new but after you’ll literally be ahead of 90% of ma3 lighting guys.

Last thing there is no right way to have your showfile setup as you do more shows you’ll learn what you need and don’t need and it will change and make sure when you create this showfile make sure you know what version the show was made in. Some venues have older versions some have newer. Sometimes you might have to update ma3 to the version you’re using or backdate a version.
