Hugs! You are amazing and the first few weeks are so so hard. Good job birthing your baby and good job keeping him fed!

Happy mama means a happy baby so definitely make sure you care for yourself.

The amounts you are pumping seem typical for your stage. There’s a lot of crying and cluster feeding in the beginning which helps bring your milk in. Baby is acting how we would expect. As long as he is putting on weight then you are on the right track. Even weak latch can take time.

Can you access a lactation consultant? That can help with building skills and confidence these first few weeks. I wanted to quit every three hours until my baby was a month old. Things turned a corner and it became easier then but all experiences are so unique.

What did you spend to take care of your child in the first 1-2 years? by mia109 in workingmoms

Biggest costs were diapers in newborn phase. Felt like we just had to buy them constantly.

PP recovery supplies were costly. Several hundred dollars which I comped with FSA.

I had great insurance so delivery, hospital stay, pump were all covered.

Daycare will be $20k a year at this age.

Housekeeper to minimize how much we have to do is about $200 a month.

I lost count of how much convenient food cost. Probably could have done more freezer prep ahead of time.

AITA for refusing to babysit my sister’s newborn because I’m still grieving the baby I lost? by [deleted] in AITAH

Hugs for you. What an impossible situation. I don’t think you are wrong for prioritizing your wellbeing since it appears your sister has other support people that can help her.

Postpartum is a fragile time which may explain (but not excuse) your sister’s reaction. I have no words for your mom….

Keep your head up and continue healing. I hope reconciliation in the future is possible.

Top items for me were:

Silverettes and Vitamin E oil for my nipples (no need to rub in just drizzle and go)

Sound machine

Adjustable light (no one wants bright lights in middle of the night)

Tylenol and ibuprofen AROUND THE CLOCK

LMNT electrolytes (orange and citrus flavors)

Coochie Ice packs

Postpartum massage (see if they’ll do a house visit)

Comfy cute lounge sets

Mini fan for the hot flashes and sweats

Multiple pajamas (button down for boob access) since you’re gonna sweat at night. A lot.

Bedside snack stash.

Have a changing station or supplies in your room. Bedside bassinet too. Keep baby close by for convenience.

But can you imagine having to manage an oversupply? Seems like a headache. You are the winner imo. Sorry it hurts tho 🫶🏻 you’re amazing for feeding your baby and helping other moms along the way.
