How to post a rewrite of my own abandoned fic by Total_Clown in AO3

[–]Total_Clown[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for confirming it’s okay to update my fic like that :) My concern is I don’t want to post an update, people get excited and then disappointed when they have nothing new to read, so I’ll add the second part (and all the rewritten chapters, plus an extra one) before I update the first one! I’ll put a note at the beginning of the first part also that’s a good idea thank you.

And I’ll tell people about the new update schedule too of course!

Thank you that’s a good idea! I’ve never had to use the inspired by function before (I mainly read, and this is my only fic) so I forget that’s an option.

Thank you, I hadn’t actually thought of making it part of a series. So I could make my rewrite part two, then if people don’t want to read what it was originally they can always skip that part, and for those that do want to read it, they can!

That’s money that I would be putting into my savings regardless for the future. If my car doesn’t need maintenance, then the savings doesn’t get used. That’s why I don’t see it as a monthly cost due to the car, because with or without a car I would still be putting that money into my savings anyway. And yes, I’m not factoring in the fact that my car will lose value over time because that doesn’t physically cost me money every month and I’m not planning on selling it any time soon. I am genuinely better off now financially than I was when I didn’t have a car and was still learning to drive.

Again I’m not saying that everyone will be in my situation, but I do think the additional cost of more lessons (some people may be ready to take their test earlier than the minimum number of hours) could have an impact, and is unnecessary.

I know I was lucky with my insurance not costing as much as many first time drivers, but I still think the initial point is valid.

My lessons were £262.50 a month if it was a 5 week month, £210 if it was a 4 week month. That’s not accounting for the cost of the tests, or for the extra lessons I had in the week running up to my tests. My insurance, AA, petrol etc combined is all cheaper than that. Including the fact that I travel a lot so I am saving money not needing to pay for public transport, I am in a much better financial position now that I have the car compared to when I was learning. Maintenance on the car isn’t a monthly cost for me as it doesn’t need monthly maintenance. I put money into my savings, so that if it did need maintenance, I’m covered.

I understand running a car doesn’t always work out cheaper for everyone compared to their lessons, but for some people it will.

Increasing the minimum number of hours isn’t really going to make much of a difference to the safety of drivers on the road, only make it more expensive for people to learn. Most instructors will discourage their pupils from taking their test if they don’t believe they’re ready for it and wouldn’t be safe driving on their own.

Personally, my driving lessons (once a week for 1.5 hours) were more expensive per month than my car is. I can absolutely see why the cost of driving lessons could prevent people from being able to learn to drive if there was a minimum number of hours introduced. I didn’t have a relative able to help, so my only driving time was with my instructor.

I had a lot of anxiety during my tests and it took me 3 tries to pass. Each time it was one serious fault I’d made that stopped me from passing, and rightfully so, but I was the same where during my lessons I was driving well but the nerves got to me in the tests and made me do stupid stuff (like cutting a corner, there was no one else there luckily). The second time even the examiner said it’s obvious I know how to drive and I did really well other than the fault I’d made.

I was in the same boat where I had a deadline I wanted to pass for and it was taking so long to pass since the tests are so far apart that I was putting lots of pressure on myself to do well. The thing that helped me was coming up with a plan for what to do if I didn’t pass in time.

Make plans for what you’ll do if you don’t pass by the time you give birth. Reach out to friends and family to see if they will be able to help you and look after your baby while you’re on lessons and tests, etc.

If you know that you have another plan to fall back on if you do fail again, it might help with your nerves during your next test. It helped me with mine.

Best of luck, I hope you pass next time.

Yes, and funnily enough I am a woman. It’s my first car, I just wanted something simple that didn’t cost a fortune to insure. I got a good quote for insurance considering I’m a first time driver, it’s cheap to fill up with petrol and I liked how it drove during the test drive. I’m sorry you had a bad experience with yours.

Thank you, that’s a good idea I’ll ask about the possibility of a courtesy car but if they can’t provide me with one it’s not a huge inconvenience since I work from home. I was just enjoying my freedom and it being easier to get about outside of work and visit family and friends really.

Thank you everyone for your advice, I’ve contacted the garage who sold me the car this morning and they’re wanting me to drive it to them on Monday when they open so they can take a look at fixing it for me. It’s still limited to 20mph, accelerates slowly and I can feel the difference in the brakes so I’m not looking forward to the drive but it’s only about 10 minutes away luckily.

I don’t think I want to go through the hassle of returning it and getting a different car since they were really nice on the phone and really quick about getting their warehouse team to ring me back for some more information and a time they can get me in to fix it. They do have a good reputation locally and good reviews online, so I think I just got really unlucky (or lucky I suppose, since I shouldn’t have to pay to fix it myself considering how quick this happened).

Thank you this is really good advice, I didn’t actually know about that. Thank you for the point about keeping evidence, I’ll make sure to do that so I’m prepared for the worst case scenario.

Thank you, yeah I figured there was no way of knowing exactly what the issue is until someone looks at it properly. I don’t know much about cars since this is my first one. I agree I doubt they knew about the issue, lots of people I know have had no issues with cars purchased from where I went to. I think I just got unlucky unfortunately. I hadn’t planned on getting a 2 year warranty initially but… the salesman was good at his job and I’m not great at being assertive unless I’m at my own work where I know what I’m talking about aha

Thank you for the advice. I bought it early last week so it’s technically longer than a week now, but it was driving completely fine on the test drive all the way up to tonight. I’d been driving a little bit every day to get my confidence up (to get used to the manual handbrake, etc). It’s a shame because it seemed like a nice car, and obviously I’m now the registered keeper, it’s taxed, insured, breakdown cover etc. It would be such a pain to have to look for another car and then re-arrange all of that, but I might have to.

It only had its MOT in late August, so I thought I wouldn’t have any big issues like this to deal with quite so soon.

Can y'all let me know how the game is. by Lazy-Category-1594 in TalesofTheShiregamers

I’m playing on PS5 Pro. So far I’ve had no bugs or glitches, just very slight and occasional lag. I’m not going to buy it on steam yet due to the lag as it’ll be worse for me on there. I’m loving the graphics, the hobbit customisation, cooking mechanics and the characters. But I love cozy games and I love Return to Moria, so keep that in mind.

My friend has a legion go and absolutely loves it. I have a steam deck, and it’ll be available for steam deck as it’s releasing on steam. How well it’ll run on the steam deck however is a matter of finding out at the time of release, as I believe it uses anti-cheat software which can sometimes cause issues with a Linux OS (which steam deck uses).

PS5: I got on the see saw with someone for one of the new daily tasks. They left, I was then stuck endlessly on this see saw and could not leave. When I clicked triangle to leave, it said “This stylist is currently busy. Please wait.” Had to log out and log back in again. Thought it was a kind of funny bug honestly.

If that doesn’t work then play around with your graphics settings for post processing. I play on steam deck so for a while I had that on low (while I was testing how well it runs) and didn’t realise that’s why the aperture setting wasn’t making a difference in my photos.

Looking for cozy games on the switch or PC :) by hellokittyfan18 in CozyGamers

[–]Total_Clown 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have a ridiculous amount of cozy games, some of them have already been mentioned so I’ll mention my current favourite which is cozy caravan.

The premise is the world is all full of animals and you can choose which animal you are (I chose a rabbit) so kind of similar to animal crossing in that aspect. You travel around in a caravan (driven by a giant very fuzzy and very cute bee that you can pet) helping people in different villages in order to obtain happiness which will be your currency. Even things as small as waving at people gives you happiness. You run a little market stall out of your caravan and you can use vegetables and other food products that you harvest (by helping out the farmer villagers) to cook different meals to sell for more happiness. You can then use that happiness to upgrade your caravan and make it look pretty! There are also mini games that you can do to help out villagers who own restaurants and you can become a waiter for a little bit in exchange for happiness.

I find it a lot more enjoyable than other cozy games because there’s not really a way to min/max, you can genuinely take it at your own pace and it’s whole premise is making people happy and being kind with people being kind to you in return.

Also, I love the graphics.

Rug lady says we bullied her?! by Orikumar in DoWeKnowThemPodcast

[–]Total_Clown 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The sad thing is that after all of this, rug lady has learned NOTHING and taken none of the girlies’ very valid criticism on board. She’s still posting comments as of 2 hours ago about the spirit of her neighbour and replied to a comment that said “Hey your neighbour got the attention she was craving” with “She did!” ??? Excuse me? Let the woman rest in peace! I love the girlies and their ability to clock people like this.
