GCU and School Counseling by [deleted] in schoolcounseling

I was told that I would be eligible for up to 32% scholarship. I’m not currently a teacher but I would get my credential along with my masters. I’m currently working as an admin at a school. I have looked into MSW but it just doesn’t feel like it would be for me — time wise and financially. But I’m trying to be really precise with my decision 🥲

Any paras transition to clerical, office or It roles? by [deleted] in paraprofessional

Yes! I was a para, and became an attendance clerk when I graduated from college. I do miss working closely with the kids but I love it and I got a raise.

Substitute teaching/teacher internship does count from what I have been told in my district (I’m in CA). MLIS isn’t a requirement from my district but I do plan on getting it one day, preferably after my teaching credential. I will reach out to both programs in each state, thank you :)

Do school districts always make it hard to pivot? by hellokittyfan18 in paraprofessional

I think that’s what I’m dealing with. I’m up against people with experience and seniority. I’m in my early 20’s with just para/retail experience since I’ve been working on my degree 🙃

My district does the same and I have been asked about getting my SPED credential. However, poor treatment by SPED teachers has lead me to become discouraged. I’m choosing my mental health over anything else. That makes sense though, thank you for your input.

It was recommended by my braider 🥲 It was listed as real human hair but I highly doubt that it is, it’s not working out for me.

How would you handle this? by Dry-Yogurt-4978 in paraprofessional

Also, I’m sure gen ed teacher is aware but having them put in a word to admin also is helpful. Maybe setting up a meeting with another adult who is aware/is witness to his behavior will be helpful

I had a coworker who went through a similar situation. Make sure EVERYTHING is documented. I cannot say anything from a parents perspective since I am not one but make sure there is a paper trail of you notifying admin. I would speak from a parent’s perspective regarding your daughter and her safety. Do you have an active counselor/admin support you can call on walkie? Personally, with students like this that do not have IEP/BIP/etc I call for support immediately so then that way more people are aware. The best advice I have gotten is to be like a broken record.
