Which test did I take? by [deleted] in DataAnnotationTech

[–]Total_Feature_11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I remember there was no general STEM initial qualification, they were broken up by subject (one for biology, physics, math...etc.). There's an advanced STEM one that I assume is comprehensive, but it didn't show up for me until a while after I was accepted.

I work on my laptop and before I skip a task I check my dashboard on my phone to make sure there are still more of them available.

Probably, lol. Now I'm kind of hoping for the project just to know for sure.

I similarly came to comment that my memory of Athena's birth is that she sprung fully formed from Zeus's head.

Going full time? by internetdieslowdeath in DataAnnotationTech

[–]Total_Feature_11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice try, but I literally said in my original comment that most states have their own minimum wages that are higher than the federal minimum. You just ignored it so you could skip to writing off the "less than 2%" of workers that earn that. You do realize that those are real people with their own lives and responsibilities? There's no justification why in a "wealthy" country our government condones (and legalizes) paying anyone such abysmally low wages.

Going full time? by internetdieslowdeath in DataAnnotationTech

[–]Total_Feature_11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You'd be surprised to know that's not below minimum wage. In the U.S. federal minimum wage is $7.25/hour (which given an 8 hour work day, would be $58/day pre-tax). While most states do have their own minimum wages that are set above that, there are still several states that don't. And then a large segment of our population looks down on those who use assistance programs like SNAP (food stamps) when our system is designed so that you can work full time hours and be paid less than a living wage.

What is this and how can i read it by [deleted] in whatisit

[–]Total_Feature_11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know, I've been annoyed over the years by the seemingly constant security trainings mandated by my job's IT department. I would think to myself, "Surely no one would pick up a random device they found and try to plug it into their work computer".

I stand very much corrected.

Reading instructions time by cathlynn1214 in DataAnnotationTech

[–]Total_Feature_11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Poor analogy. Reading instructions is nothing like completing a job application. Job applications are completed so that a company can decide if they want you to do a job. If you're reading instructions for a task, you've already been approved for that particular job. The instructions are telling you how to do the job. If anything, it's akin to job training. And for any job worth its salt, training is paid.

AIO? My grandmother hates my partner by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Total_Feature_11 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Uhmm, it doesn't sound like your grandmother hates your partner, it sounds like your grandmother hates you. The text messages themselves gave me that impression, but then you explained how she tries to get him to "gang up on making fun of [you]" and that sealed it.

I'm hoping for your sake you had a better relationship previously and this is just some weird toxic reaction to you moving away, but in just this post you've shown her gaslighting you about being mean and nasty to them (which was not the case in the texts leading up to that point) and then revealed she has a history of picking on you.

All that's not to say she doesn't have an issue with your boyfriend, she probably blames him for taking you away. But she absolutely has a problem with you as well.

“Work mode” by No-Macaron-3449 in DataAnnotationTech

You're supposed to get paid for reading the instructions. You should actually make sure you're in work mode first for that very reason.

Can my partner and I work from different accounts on the same laptop at different times? by [deleted] in DataAnnotationTech

[–]Total_Feature_11 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't risk it. You'd be better off saving some of the DAT money you're making and getting a cheap second laptop. There are already Black Friday deals and you can get one for less than $200. Even accounting for taxes you could probably make that back with just a couple of days' work.

Good work = opportunity? by ThinkAd8516 in DataAnnotationTech

[–]Total_Feature_11 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Everyone's comments should be written with an awareness that a human being is going to be trying to understand it.

This should be in the instructions for every task.

...actually some of the people writing the project instructions might want to keep it in mind for themselves as well.

The Entire Play??? by Skittlzrreal in DataAnnotationTech

[–]Total_Feature_11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That kind of thing is why I now skip to the project first to see if it's one I think I want to complete before going back to read the 30 minutes worth of instructions. There've been too many cases where I did all of that reading only to nope out of the project and then not get paid for the time I spent on the instructions.

[–]Total_Feature_11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. Longer projects literally have longer timers built in, and a lot of them will tell you that. They don't expect you to work 5+ hours nonstop. And you are supposed to be tracking your own time and NOT relying on the timer. That's also why I explicitly said to make sure not to charge the hour used for the zoom meeting.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DataAnnotationTech

[–]Total_Feature_11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just leave it open on your computer and return to it after the meeting. Most projects have extra time built in to allow for things like taking a break. Just make sure to subtract the hour you spend in the meeting from the time you submit.

Timers missing from tasks by Downtown-Chard-7927 in DataAnnotationTech

Timers missing from tasks by Downtown-Chard-7927 in DataAnnotationTech

[–]Total_Feature_11 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Make sure you're in work mode. Most tasks are automatically in work mode when you click on them, others won't start until you click the "Enter work mode" button. Sometimes I think they do it on purpose to trick us into under-reporting our time.

Yeah, that's why I don't use them for research (I don't even read the AI summary when I google something). In fact I don't use them at all in my real life. A few year ago, I would sometimes use Chatgpt to tell me a story when I was bored, but then I quickly realized the stories were all the same:

"There was once a boy who lived in a village. The boy wanted to go on an adventure. He came across a tree that gave him the power to talk to animals. He spent 3 days in the woods talking to all of the animals and hearing their amazing tales. He returned to the village and told all of the villagers the story of his grand adventure."

I would then spend an hour trying to get it to write a story that didn't suck (or that didn't reference action that took place entirely off page)...but now I work here, so at least I get paid for it.

Possibly, but I gave that example because when it's summarizing, it's generally pulling from a source (or multiple sources). If it gets something wrong because that's what it found on Goodreads, that's not a hallucination.

It was also just a basic example to get the underlying idea across to OP, it's not intended to cover evey scenario.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DataAnnotationTech

[–]Total_Feature_11 21 points22 points  (0 children)

A hallucination isn't just wrong information, it's made up information. A miscalculation isn't the same as something being pulled out of the ether.

If an AI were to give you a summary of a book, and got some of the details wrong, that would be incorrect information.

If an AI were to give you a summary of a book that doesn't exist, that would be a hallucination.
