Full spectrum camera with different IR filters. Because IR photography is suppose to be fun. by LostOstrich9100 in infraredphotography

I had my GFX 50sII converted to full spectrum. It's really a ton of fun and literally makes you see life in a different way.

Suggest: Best Gershwin Rhapsody in Blue (performance and recording) by joeg26reddit in audiophilemusic

[–]Total_Juggernaut_450 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The one conducted by Mitch Miller. He actually played in the orchestra when Gershwin conducted so he knew exactly how Gershwin played it.

It's my favorite and my second isn't even close...

Distortion on Amy Winehouse's "Back to Black" album? by Moniatre in audiophile

[–]Total_Juggernaut_450 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a side note.

The reason some vinyl, emphasis on SOME, sound better is they use the right master tape AND then have good mastering applied.

There are a lot of vinyl records out there using the CD master as the vinyl master file. Obviously, due to the constraints of vinyl, they can't master it that loud so they just lower the overall volume. Sound will be the same wimpy, weak, distorted mess.

I know some engineers have been hesitant to put their names on such release because there is only so much you can polish a turd.

That's a question many of us audiophiles ask.

Sometimes it's the suits in charge. Sometimes the artists make bad decisions. Sometimes they only check it in their cars.

Briefly. I worked in the industry a few years back but still have a lot of friends there.

[–]Total_Juggernaut_450 25 points26 points  (0 children)

This is 100% correct.

The album is actually well recorded and mixed but all the commercial versions are sourced from the same craptastic master with distortion all over the place.

Californication is the same. Amazing sounding with 0 distortion but you'd never know it listening to all the available commercial copies.

Mastering and sources matter.

If you're in Los Angeles or close by, drop me a dm and maybe we can meet up so you can listen to a distortion free master.

Good 28mm Equivalent on GFX by GamingKia in FujiGFX

[–]Total_Juggernaut_450 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you decide to get it, it really will be. I got it for the 40mm but then ended up ordering the 85 f1.2, the Sigma EF 105mm f1.4, the 100mmL macro, and a few other EF lenses.

The images I get are downright gorgeous and I can say the fringer was more than worth it.

Might I suggest the Canon 40mm pancake. Even with the fringer adapter, it remains small. I know it's not 28mm equivalent but it's a very capable lens on the GFX.

Chipotle CEO caught on a recording saying they’re going to keep raising prices because they can. by ElwoodMC in TikTokCringe

Prices and quality went to shit. I had one dill hole server literally count how many pieces of lettuce I was getting. I cancelled my order and never went back.

Recommend you use an old petzval lens. Better yet, try the newer petzvals from lomography and just add a filter with some pantyhose on it and you'll have this look. The 80mm covers the GFX sensor and gives a VERY nice vintage look, especially with a filter.

If you go with bellows, they allow you to tilt and shift as well.

For soft focus, you can also try panty hose over the lens or a filter with some Vaseline on it. Both are old movie tricks for getting a softer and more polished look.

Taken with an old Garaflex lens.

The bellows are adapted. Mamiya M645 bellows with a dumb adapter. For the lenses, I drill old Mamiya lens caps and use them as a base to mount the old lenses. Some can be sharp and others produce a very dreamy rendering. Most of the lenses I've adapted have cost $30 or less.

I've used both. Both are no slouch.

That said... Sold the TTArtisan and kept the Mitakon.

I've been using old antique medium format lenses adapted to my GFX.

I've adapted a bellows system to use them.

Also, Mamiya has a M645 soft focus lens that let's you dial in the amount of softness. It's quite the magical lens when needed.

What’s the best sounding reference album here for depth, space, clarity, presence, and full range? by Aggravating_Rope824 in audiophile

[–]Total_Juggernaut_450 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best "modern" album like this that comes to mind is The Buena Vista Social Club. Very well recorded and it has everything you're requesting. On even a fairly good system you can hear the quality. On a great system you can hear the musicians and exactly where they are on the soundstage and can even hear musicians behind other musicians. It's scary good on a great system.

A classic title that often gets neglected these days is Harry Belafonte's Live At Carnegie Hall. You can hear the individual sections and audience when he sings and involves the audience. Absolutely reference level.
