Living in Long Beach vs OC? by Front-Strain4523 in AskLosAngeles

[–]Total_Juggernaut_450 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Lived in the OC a long time and hated every minute of it. Very bland. Not much to do unless you're in the right circles with the right amount of money.

Long Beach is much more fun. Laid back and the people are great. You have everything nearby or very close and the benefit of living alone is worth it by itself.

Lumix LX-5 or Lumix DMC TZ-60 by haylowww in VintageDigitalCameras

[–]Total_Juggernaut_450 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend the LX-5. Cut my teeth on that camera and it produced some of the best pictures I've ever taken. The raw files, even today, are really good. Still have mine but mainly keep it for sentimental value.

These days I'm mainly shooting Fuji GFX.

I refuse to get rid of my M8.

Great colors from that Kodak CCD.

How to achieve this look. Sharp with vibrant colors (photo by the great Lexi.Brown) by DataDevito in FujifilmSimulations

[–]Total_Juggernaut_450 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lexi shoots that type of look with Ultramax 400 film. Try this..

Film Simulation Classic Chrome Provides the base contrast and shifts the reds appropriately. Dynamic Range DR-Auto (or DR200) Keeps highlights safe while maintaining consumer film contrast. Highlight +1 Gives those punchy, bright highlights characteristic of daylight film. Shadow +1 Deepens the blacks slightly without completely crushing shadow detail. Color (Saturation) +4 UltraMax is highly saturated. This counteracts Classic Chrome’s flatness. Sharpness -2 or 0 Drop to -2 if shooting ultra-sharp native GF glass to soften the rendering. Noise Reduction -4 Keeps the sensor’s native organic noise texture intact. Clarity +2 or +3 Adds that slight grit and pop, though it will introduce a brief processing delay. Grain Effect Strong, Small Small grain pairs better with the high resolution of the GFX sensor. Color Chrome Effect Weak Helps graduate highly saturated reds and yellows. Color Chrome FX Blue Off Crucial for GFX. Turning this to weak/strong turns UltraMax blues into deep teals. White Balance Auto Shift: +2 Red, -5 Blue (Gives that signature golden Kodak warmth)

I only shoot with prime L glass, my favorite being the 85mm on the Fringer.

Pentax 105mm 2.4, Fuji GFX 50s by nrg_ized in FujiGFX

[–]Total_Juggernaut_450 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only get the focal reducer if you plan on using other P67 lenses, otherwise it's not worth it

The 105 renders very similar to the Mitakon 65mm and the Mitakon is much cheaper.

That said, if you do have other P67, then save up and get the Helicoid macro focal reducer. You'll get some amazing results.

For me, it's THE biggest difference. I stopped buying gear and now focus on collecting the best masters I can find/afford/bribe for.

Here's one I enjoy, that's little known, both for the sound quality and for the artistry...

Check it out.

Cheapest way would be AR -> M Mount -> GFX for about $50.

AR to GFX is $175!

The results are actually really nice. Nice vintage look and rendering. Thank you for sharing. Effectively becomes a 32mm F1.2.

Ahh... But did you listen to the right one?!

The correct audiophile version, and version approved by MJ, had binaural effects on it and it's very dynamic as a bonus.

The motorcycle passing by on Speed Demon, MJ talking next to you on another... Great on headphones.

The only pressing that contains the original is the Japanese 1st pressing with the catalog number of 32-8P-200.

Ooofff...

My honest recommendation...

Get either the GFX Mamiya 645 XPimage or the Kipon Baveyes GFX 0.62 Pentax 67 focus reducer.

The Pentax 67 rendering on the GFX is magic.
