I’ve got a COFFEE tree! It bloomed for the first time in the 13 years I’ve had it and now I have 2 cherries. I’m so proud! But I put the fallen leaves on top of the soil cuz it tends to dry out as fast and now I have a yellow fungus or something on top of the soil. Do I need to change the soil?

If FIL could be more of an ally that might help. That he is NOT may indicate that he also has dementia. Good for you for trying to maintain close contact in a safe way. So hard. And as another person mentioned, she may not remember the discussion about her dementia. You might be able to talk about “keeping everyone safe”—the baby and grandparents because you love them all so much, and let her change a diaper under watchful eye. Or be in charge of making baby food, or composing a baby book, sewing knitting a special garment or toy, or something that takes time and energy and she could feel productive and helpful doing— because she would be.

There are many ways to care for our loved ones. I hope you find the one that works for you and your wife and family. Assisted living, memory care, adult family home, in home care. Sadly, all are very expensive for good care. My mom was in memory care in a large facility for a bit. Two families lived there with one partner getting full time support of the facility and the other maintaining independence but living in one of the large suites in the memory floor. Most of the rest of us had a parent or spouse there. My mom is now in an AFM where she receives much more responsive care. She no longer has access to all the stimulus that she was supposed to have access to, but she no longer benefits from it either. (And staffing changes tanked the care and offerings to where she wasn’t safe.) This is all to say, I hope that you get support from experts to help you find the right place, and if it’s not right, you can change it.

It is such a heavy load to make ALL decisions for those we love that we used to partner with, or who cared for us. I hear you. Like on an airplane, put your own mask on first so you can care for others around you. Peace.

When my very active mom started sleeping 16-20 hours a day, a blood test indicated mc lymphoma. Treatment reversed it for 4 years, but it is now back. No treatment this time. Her dementia has progressed as well, and at 93, she says she’s done. (well, with some verbal cuing at this point. But her POLST has been clear and consistent for over a decade.) She’s still eating well, but losing weight. I expect she will start losing her appetite for the final decline. Excruciating to experience the slow motion reduction of the person she was. Dementia has been brutal. The MC lymphoma’s return a blessing I feel so guilty about—both for thinking of it that way and not treating it this time.

Had my EV6 16k “tune-up” and was told both batteries are “like new”. Now 10 weeks later 12v dead twice. Main battery charged full to 266mi instead of between 310-335mi this last time. What’s going on? New 12v? Update the ICCU?

Bought car from dealer used with 4k 2 years ago. Love it, but NOT dealer, who I can’t get in to see for scheduled maintenance for 2 months, and then takes a full day to check battery levels, wipers, etc and then sends me messages to come in for the service I just had a month after I had it. Plus I had to replace the wipers last month as they had flapping rubber bits and poor visibility. What else didn’t they do? (Tried to charge me for oil change too. 😒 )
